Selecting
a
menu
item
Highlighted menu items can be selected.1.Turn the Controller until the desired menu
item is highlighted.2.Press the Controller.

Switching
between
screens
After a menu item has been selected, for exj
ample "iDrive settings", a new screen is disj
played.

The current screen is closed and the previj
ous screen is displayed.'y Press the button.
The previous screen is opened again.'yTilt the Controller to the right.
The new screen is opened.The arrow indicates that further screens can
be called up.

menus The recently used menus can be displayed.

The "Options" menu is displayed.
The Options menu consists of various areas:
'yScreen settings, for example "Split
screen".'yOperating options for the selected main
menu, for example for "Media/Radio".'yIf applicable, other operating options for the selected menu, for example "Save

upper and lower case letters, numbers and

Entry
comparison
When entering names and addresses, the sej
lection is gradually narrowed down and possij bly supplemented with every subsequent letterthat you enter.
Inputs are continuously compared with the data saved in the vehicle.
'yOnly letters for which data is available are
offered for entry.'yDestination search: place names can be entered in all languages available in iDrive.
Operating
alphabetical
lists
For alphabetic lists with more than 30 entries,the letters for which entries are available, canbe shown on the left side.
1.Turn the Controller quickly to the left or
right.
On the left, all letters are displayed for which an entry is available.2.Select the initial letter of the desired entry.

Entering
letters

Entering letters requires a bit of practice to bej
gin with. Pay attention to the following when entering:
'yThe system recognises upper and lower
case and numbers. It may be necessary to
switch between upper and lower case,
numbers and characters, see page 22.'yEnter symbols as they are displayed on the
Control Display.'yAlways enter associated characters, such
as accents or dots, so that the letter will be
correctly detected. The input option dej
pends on the language that has been set.
You may need to enter special characters
using the Controller.'yTo delete a character, swipe on the touchj
pad towards the left.'yTo enter a space, swipe towards the right in the middle of the touchpad.'yTo enter a hyphen, swipe towards the rightin the upper area of the touchpad.'yTo enter an underscore, swipe towards theright in the lower area of the touchpad.
Operating

The map of the navigation system can be
moved using the touchpad.

Favourites
buttons
General iDrive functions, for example radio stations,
navigation destinations, telephone numbers
and shortcuts to the menu, can be saved to Favourites buttons and called up directly.
The settings are saved for the currently used
driver profile.

Performing

Press the button.
The function is carried out immediately. If you
have selected a telephone number, for examj
ple, the connection will also be established.

Principle
The voice control system enables most of the functions shown in the Control Display to beoperated by spoken commands. The systemprovides spoken announcements to assist you
with input.

Note
regarding
emergency
calls
The voice control system should not be used
for emergency calls. Under stress, a person's
speech and voice pitch can change. This could
unnecessarily delay the connection of your
call.
Instead, use the SOS button, see page 237,
located near the rear-view mirror.

'yDoors, windows and the Glass Roof should
