Softwareupdate
General The vehicle supports a large number of mobile
devices, for example mobile telephones and MP3 players. Software updates are providedfor many of the supported devices. Regular upjdating of the vehicle software keeps the vehijcle up-to-date.
Updates and related, up-to-date information
are posted on the website at www.bmw.com/ update.

displayed.

If an update has already been applied, select
the desired version to show additional informaj tion.
UpdatingsoftwareviaUSB Do not attempt to update the software unless
the vehicle is at a standstill.

USB data storage medium in the main

Teleservice
Software updates via BMW Teleservice are country-specific and may be unavailable.
The software is first transferred to the vehicleand can then be installed. The installation canbe performed at a different time from that ofthe transfer.
It is possible to transfer the software during a
journey. If you interrupt your journey, the
transfer resumes automatically when you start
off again. The other functions are available
while the transfer is in process. The transfer
requires mobile phone reception.
Do not attempt to update the software unless
the vehicle is at a standstill.

Principle
The integrated Owner's Handbook describes the specific equipment and functions presentin the vehicle. The integrated Owner'sHandbook can be shown in the Control Disjplay.

The integrated Owner's Handbook consists of
four parts providing different levels of informaj tion and access options.
QuickReference Important information is found in the quick refj
erence for the operation of the vehicle, the opj
eration of fundamental vehicle functions and in
case of breakdown. This information can also
be displayed during the journey.
Searchbypictures The search by pictures function enables you tosearch for information and descriptions usingpictures. This is particularly useful, for examj
ple, if you require a description of an item of
equipment but do not know its name.
Keywordsearch
This function enables you to search for inforj mation and descriptions by entering a search
term directly from the index.
Animations
The animations explain the basic functions of selected systems.

You can use the Control Display to switch from
a function, for example radio, to the Owner's Handbook, and then back and forth betweenthe two displays:
1. Press the button.2."Owner's Handbook"3.Select the desired page in the Owner's
Handbook.4. Press the button again to switch back
to the last displayed function.5. Press the button again to switch back
to the last displayed page of the Owner's Handbook.
To switch continuously between the last disjplayed function and the last displayed page of
the Owner's Handbook, repeat steps 4 and 5. As you do so, new screens are opened.

The links/entry points/short cuts to the Ownj
er's Handbook can be saved on Favourites buttons, see page 26, and called up directly.
Saving

This chapter describes all standard, national

Remotecontrol General
The delivery specification includes two remote
controls with integrated keys.
Each remote control contains a replaceable
battery. Replacing the battery, see page 50.
The buttons' functions can be assigned dej
pending on the equipment installed and the
country specification. For settings, see page 59.
Personal settings are saved in the vehicle for
each remote control. Driver profiles, see
page 56.
The remote controls store servicing informaj tion. Service data in the remote control, see
page 229
Safetynotes WARNING
Persons remaining in the vehicle or pets
left inside can lock the doors from the inside and lock themselves in. In this case, the vehiclecannot be opened from the outside. There is adanger of injury. Carry the remote control withyou so that you can open the vehicle from theoutside.'

UnlockingPress the button on the remote conjtrol.
Depending on the settings, see page 59, the
following access points are unlocked.'yThe driver door and the fuel filler flap.
Press the button on the remote control
again to unlock the other access points.'yAll doors, the boot lid and the fuel filler flap.
The following functions are also carried out:
'yThe settings saved in the driver profile, see page 56, are applied.'yThe driver's seat is set to the last seat poj
sition saved. This function must be activaj ted in the settings, see page 59.'yThe interior light is switched on, unless it
was switched off manually. Switch the intejrior light on/off manually, see page 124.'yThe exterior lights activated in the settings,
see page 59, are switched on.'yAutomatically folded-in exterior mirrors are
folded out. This function must be activated in the settings. Exterior mirrors folded inusing comfort closing must be folded out
using comfort opening.'yWith anti-theft system: The anti-theft sysj tem is switched off.'yThe alarm system, see page 60, is
switched off.
The light functions might be dependent on the ambient brightness.
Press remote control button twice indirect succession to activate comfort
memory.
When a door is opened, the window is lowered
further to make it easier to get in. This function
must be activated in the settings, see
page 59.
Comfortopening
Keep the button on the remote control
pressed after unlocking.
The windows and Glass Roof are opened for as
long as the button on the remote control is
pressed.
Locking1.Close the driver door.2.Press the button on the remote conj
trol.
Following functions are carried out:
'yAll doors, boot lid and fuel filler flap are locked.'yWith anti-theft system: The anti-theft sysjtem is switched on. This prevents the
doors from being unlocked using the lockj
ing buttons or the door openers.'yThe alarm system, see page 60, is
switched on.
If vehicle horn sounds twice when locking, this means engine or ignition is still switched on. In this case, switch off engine or ignition using
start/stop button.
Comfortclosing
Safetynote WARNING
Parts of the body can become trapped
when the comfort closing feature is operating. There is a danger of injury. During comfort
closing, make sure that the area of movement is kept free.'

The windows and the Glass Roof are closed for
as long as the button on the remote control is pressed.
The exterior mirrors are folded in.
Switchingoninteriorlightand
courtesylight
With the vehicle locked, press the button
on the remote control.
This function is not available if the interior light
was switched off manually.
The light functions might be dependent on the ambient brightness.
After locking, wait 10 seconds before pressing
the button again.
Bootlid
General
To prevent the remote control from being locked in, do not place the remote control inthe boot.
Depending on the equipment and country verj sion, it can be set whether the doors are also
unlocked when unlocking with the remote conj
trol. Adjusting the settings, see page 59.
On some equipment versions, the doors are also unlocked each time.

sure that the area of movement of the boot lid
