Malfunction
General
A Check Control message is shown.
It may be difficult for the vehicle to detect the
remote control in some conditions, including the following:'yThe battery of the remote control is disjcharged. Replacing the battery, see
page 50.'yDisruption of the radio link by transmission
masts or other equipment transmitting
powerful signals.'yShielding of the remote control by metallic
objects.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with metallic objects.'yDisruption of the radio link by mobile telejphones or other electronic devices in the
immediate vicinity of the remote control.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with electronic devices.'yInterference with the radio link caused bythe charging of mobile devices, for examj
ple a mobile phone.'yThe remote control is located in the immej
diate vicinity of the wireless charging craj
dle.
Place the remote control somewhere else.If there is a malfunction, the vehicle can be unj
locked and locked from the outside with the
integrated key, see page 51.

the mark on the steering column.2.Start the engine within 10 seconds.
If the remote control is not detected, change
the position of the remote control slightly and repeat the procedure.
Integratedkey General
With the integrated key, the driver door can be
unlocked and locked without the remote conj trol.
The integrated key also fits the glove box on the front passenger side.

switch for front passenger airbags, see
page 128.
Safetynotes WARNING
If the vehicle is locked from the outside, it
cannot be unlocked from the inside in some
country versions.

ComfortAccess
Principle
This feature allows you to access the vehicle
without having to operate the remote control.
Simply having the remote control with you, forexample in your trouser pocket, is sufficient.
The vehicle automatically recognises the rej
mote control when it is in the immediate vicinj ity or inside the vehicle.
GeneralComfort Access supports the following funcj
tions:
'yUnlocking and locking the vehicle.'yComfort closing.'yOpen the boot lid.'yOpen boot lid contactlessly.
Operatingrequirements
'yTo lock, the remote control must be locaj
ted outside the vehicle in the vicinity of the
doors.'yThe vehicle can only be unlocked and
locked again after approximately 2 secj
onds.Unlocking
Completely grip handle of the driver or front passenger door.
This corresponds to pressing the
button
on the remote control.
Locking
Use your finger to touch the area on the door
handle of the driver or front passenger door for
approximately 1 second, without gripping the
door handle.
This corresponds to pressing the

on the remote control.
Comfortclosing

when the comfort closing feature is operating. There is a danger of injury. During comfort
closing, make sure that the area of movement is kept free.'

Closing
Use your finger to touch area on door handle ofthe driver or front passenger door and keep
your finger there without gripping door handle.
Corresponds to pressing and holding the

button on the remote control.
In addition to locking, windows and Glass Roof
are closed and exterior mirrors are folded in.
Openingthebootlid
General
If the boot lid is opened using Comfort Access, locked doors are not unlocked.
To prevent the remote control from being
locked in, do not place the remote control in the boot.

If several drivers each use their own remote
control, the vehicle will adapt to their personal
settings when it is unlocked. These settings are also restored if the vehicle is used in the injtervening period by someone with a different
remote control.
Changes to settings are saved automatically in
the currently used driver profile.
If a different driver profile is selected via iDrive, the settings saved there are automatically apj
plied. The new driver profile is allocated to the
remote control currently used.
A guest profile is also available which is not alj
located to any remote control. It can be used to
perform settings on the vehicle without changj
ing the personal driver profiles.
Operatingrequirements
To ensure that the correct driver profile can be
set, the system must be able to assign the dej
tected remote control uniquely to the driver.
This is assured if the following conditions aremet:'yThe driver is only carrying their own rej
mote control.'yThe driver unlocks the vehicle.'yThe driver enters the vehicle through the driver door.
Settings
Settings for the following systems and funcjtions are saved in the active profile. Which setj
tings can be saved depends on the country
and equipment.

Profilemanagement
Selectingdriverprofile
Regardless of which remote control is curj
rently being used, it is possible to call up a difj ferent driver profile. This enables the personalvehicle settings to be called up, even if the vej
hicle was not unlocked with the driver's own remote control.

Systemlimits
It is not always possible to assign a remote
control uniquely to a driver. This may be the
case in the following scenarios:
'yThe front passenger unlocks the vehicle
with their remote control, but another perj
son drives.'yThe driver unlocks the vehicle using Comj
fort Access and is carrying a number of rej
mote controls.'yIf there is a change of driver without the vej
hicle being locked and unlocked.'yIf a number of remote controls are located
in the area outside of the vehicle.

General
Various settings are possible for opening and closing, depending on the equipment and
country variant.
These settings are saved for the currently
used driver profile, see page 56.
Unlocking

General
The alarm system responds to the following
changes when the vehicle is locked:'yUnauthorised opening of a door, the bonj net or the boot lid.'yThere are movements inside the vehicle.'yThe vehicle's incline changes, for instance
if an attempt is made to jack it up and steal
the wheels or to raise it prior to towing away.'yThere is an interruption in the power supj
ply from the battery.
The alarm system indicates these changes visj
ually and audibly:
'yAudible alarm.
Depending on local regulations, the acousj
tic alarm may be suppressed.'yActivation of the hazard warning lights.
Switchingon/off
The alarm system is switched on/off at the
same time as the vehicle is unlocked and
locked via the remote control or Comfort Acj
cess.

The alarm system is triggered on opening a
door if the door has been unlocked using the integrated key in the door lock.

The boot lid can be opened even with the
alarm system switched on.
On closing the boot lid, it is locked again and monitored, as long as the doors are locked.The hazard warning lights flash once.
