route the lap section of the belt across the abjdomen.
Do not modify seat belts, belt buckles, belt
tensioners, belt retractors and belt anchor points and ensure that they are kept clean. A
slack belt will greatly reduce the protection afj
forded to the wearer.
Do not allow the seat belt webbing to come
into contact with polishes, oils and chemicals and particularly battery acid. It may be safely
cleaned with mild soap and water. The seat
belt strap should be replaced if webbing bej comes frayed, contaminated or damaged. Seatbelts should not be worn with seat belt strapstwisted. Each seat belt assembly must only beused by one occupant; it is illegal to carry aninfant or a child on the occupant's lap.
It is essential to replace the entire assembly afjter it has been worn in a severe impact even if
damage to the assembly is not obvious.'

2.Insert the seat belt tongue in the belt
buckle. The seat belt buckle must be heard to engage.
If the seat belt is fastened, the seat belt strap is
automatically fastened once when driving off.

1.Hold the seat belt firmly.2.Press the red button on the belt buckle.3.Guide the seat belt back up to the reel
mechanism.

General The seat belt reminder is activated when theseat belt on the driver's side is not fastened.
For some country versions, the seat belt rejminder is also active if the front passenger seatbelt is not fastened and heavy objects are on
the front passenger seat.
Display A Check Control message is shown.
Check whether the seat belt has been fastened correctly.
Seatbeltreminderforrearseats The indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster is illuminated after the engine starts.
'yGreen: seat belt fastened on the correj
sponding rear seat.'yRed: seat belt not fastened on the correj sponding rear seat.
The seat belt reminder will also be activated ifa rear seat belt is unfastened during the jourj
ney.
Beltholder
Place the seat belt in the belt holder to make it easier to put on the belt when the seat ismoved forwards.
Safetyfunction
In critical driving situations, for example full
braking, the front seat belts are tensioned auj tomatically.
If the situation passes without an accident, the belt tension is loosened again.
If the belt tension does not loosen automatij
cally, stop the vehicle and unfasten the seat belt using the red button on the buckle. Fasten
the seat belt again before continuing your jourj
ney.
Headrestraints Safetynotes WARNING
If the head restraints are removed or inj
correctly adjusted, they cannot provide protecj tion as intended and head and neck injuries
may result. There is a danger of injury.

'yBefore a journey, fit the removed head rej
straints on all occupied seats.'yAdjust the head restraint so its centre supj ports the back of the head at as close to
eye level as possible.'yAdjust the spacing so that the head rej
straint is as close as possible to the back of
the head. If necessary, adjust the spacing
using the incline of the seat backrest.'

3. Press the button. LED in button is
illuminated.4.Press the desired button 1 or 2 while the LED is lit. LED is extinguished.
If the button was pressed inadverjtently:
Press the button again.
LED is extinguished.
Recalling The saved position is called up automatically.
Press the desired button 1 or 2.
The operation is halted when you press a seat
adjustment switch or one of the memory butj
tons.
Adjusting the seat position on the driver's side is interrupted after a short time during the jourj ney.
Callinguphasbeendisabled Calling up the saved seat positions is disabled
after a short while to prevent the battery from
being discharged.
To reactivate calling up:
'yOpen and close a door or the boot lid.'yPress a button on the remote control.'yPress the start/stop button.
Mirrors
Exteriormirrors
General The mirror setting is saved for the currently
used driver profile. When the vehicle is unj locked using the remote control, this positionis called up automatically if the function for thishas been activated, see page 60.
The current exterior mirror position can be
saved with the memory function, see page 73.
Safetynote
WARNING
Objects reflected in the mirror are closer
than they appear. The distance to road users
behind the vehicle could be incorrectly estimaj ted, for example when changing lane. There isa danger of accidents. Look over your shoulderto estimate the distance from the followingtraffic.'

FoldinginandoutNOTE
Due to the vehicle's width, it could susj
tain damage in car washes. There is a danger
of damage to property. Before washing, fold
the mirrors in manually or with the button.'

a) Adapt the front/back position of the front passenger seat and, if necessary, move it to the highest position to achieve the best possible routing of the belt.
b) When using child restraint systems on the rear seats, adapt the front/back position of the frontseat if necessary, and also adjust the head restraint of the rear seat, or remove it.Childrenalwaysintherearseats
General Accident research has shown that the safest
place for children is on the rear seat.
Children younger than 12 years old or less
than 150 cm, 5 ft in height are only allowed to be transported in the rear using child restraintsystems appropriate for their age, weight andstature. Children older than 12 years must besecured with a seat belt as soon as a suitable
child restraint system is no longer appropriate due to their age, weight and stature.
Safetynote WARNING
Children less than 150 cm, 5 ft in height
cannot wear the seat belt correctly without usj
ing additional child restraint systems. The proj
tective effect of the seat belts can be restricted
or may even fail completely if the seat belts are worn incorrectly. If a seat belt is not worn corjrectly, additional injuries can be caused, for exj
ample in the event of an accident or braking
and evasive manoeuvres. There is a danger ofinjury or even death. Children smaller than
150 cm, 5 ft in height must be secured in suitaj ble child restraint systems.'

WARNING
If the seat adjustment or child seat instalj
lation is incorrect, the child restraint system may have limited stability or may not be stable
at all. There is a danger of injury or even death.
Make sure the child restraint system is firmly
positioned against the backrest. Wherever possible, adapt the backrest angle of all the
relevant seat backrests and adjust the seats
correctly. Make sure that the seats and their
backrests are correctly engaged. If possible,
adjust the height of the head restraints, or rej
move them.'

Before fitting a child restraint on the front pasjsenger seat, make sure that the front and sideairbags on the passenger side are disabled.
Deactivating the front passenger airbags with
key switch, see page 128.
Rearward-facingchildrestraints DANGER
Active front passenger air bags can faj
tally injure a child in a rearward-facing child rej straint system if they are triggered. There is adanger of injury or even death. Make sure that
the front passenger air bags are deactivated and the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicatorlamp is illuminated.'
