This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
General
information
The engine oil consumption is dependent on
the driving style and driving conditions.
The engine oil consumption can increase in
the following situations, for example:'ySporty driving style.'yBreak-in of the engine.'yIdling of the engine.'yWith use of engine oil types that are classij
fied as not suitable.
Therefore, regularly check the engine oil level
after refueling.
The vehicle is equipped with electronic oil
measurement.
The electronic oil measurement has two measj uring principles:
'yStatus display.'yDetailed measurement.Electronic

Status
display
Concept
The engine oil level is monitored electronically
while driving and shown on the Control Disj play.
If the engine oil level reaches the minimum
level, a Check Control message is displayed.
Functional
requirements A current measured value is available after apj
prox. 30 minutes of driving. During a shorter
trip, the status of the last, sufficiently long trip
is displayed.
With frequent short-distance trips, regularly perform a detailed measurement.

level

Engine
oil
level
display
messages
Different messages appear on the display dej pending on the engine oil level. Pay attention
to these messages.
If the engine oil level is too low within the next
125 miles/200 km, add engine oil.
A red indicator light indicates that the
engine oil pressure is too low.
NOTE
An engine oil level that is too low causes
engine damage. There is a risk of property
damage. Immediately add engine oil.'

NOTE
Too much engine oil can damage the enj
gine or the catalytic converter. There is a risk
of property damage. Do not add too much enj
gine oil. When too much engine oil is added,
have oil level corrected by a dealerss service
center or another qualified service center or rej pair shop.'

oil
filler
neck1.Open the hood, refer to page 209.2.Open the lid counterclockwise.3.Add engine oil.
After refilling, perform a detailed measurej
ment, refer to page 212.

The engine oil quality is critical for the life of the engine.

Oil additives can damage the engine.

With the engine hot and the cooling sysj
tem open, coolant can escape and lead to scalding. There is a risk of injury. Only openthe cooling system with the engine cooleddown.'

Adding1.Let the engine cool.2.Turn the lid of the coolant reservoir slightlycounterclockwise to allow any excess
pressure to dissipate, then open it.3.If the coolant is low, slowly add coolant up to the specified level; do not overfill.4.Close the cap.5.Have the cause of the coolant loss elimijnated as soon as possible.

placement work, spare parts, fuels and lubrij
cants, and wear materials are calculated sepaj rately. Further information is available from a

CBS
Concept
Sensors and special algorithms take into acj
count the driving conditions of the vehicle.
CBS uses these to calculate the need for
maintenance.
The system makes it possible to adapt the amount of maintenance corresponding to your user profile.General

Information on service requirements, refer to page 90, can be displayed on the Control Disj
play.
Service
data
in
the
remote
control Information on the required maintenance iscontinuously stored in the remote control. Thedealerss service center can read this data outand suggest a maintenance scope for the vehijcle.
Therefore, hand the service advisor the remote
control with which the vehicle was driven most
recently.
Storage
periods Storage periods during which the vehicle batj
tery was disconnected are not taken into acj count.
If this occurs, have a dealer's service center or another qualified service center or repair shop update the time-dependent maintenance projcedures, such as checking brake fluid and, if
necessary, changing the engine oil and the mij
crofilter/activated-charcoal filter.

Diagnosis for other than its intended purpose,
can cause vehicle malfunctions and creates risks of personal and property damage. Given

strongly recommends that access to the socket for Onboard Diagnosis be limited to a
dealer's service center or another qualified service center or repair shop or other persons
that have the specialized training and equipj

If the wiper arm falls onto the windshield
without the wiper blades installed, the windj shield can be damaged. There is a risk of propjerty damage. Secure the wiper arm when rejplacing the wiper blades and do not fold downthe wipers without the wiper blades installed.'

Light-emitting
diodes
(LEDs) Some items of equipment use light-emitting
diodes installed behind a cover as a light
source. These light-emitting diodes, which are
related to conventional lasers, are officially
designated as Class 1 light-emitting diodes.

bulbs WARNING
Bulbs can get hot during operation. Conj
tact with the bulbs can cause burns. There is a
risk of injury. Only change bulbs after they
have cooled off.'
