Manual gear-shifting is possible in manual mode.
Activatingmanualmode
Press the selector lever to the left out of selecj
tor lever position D, arrow 1. Next, push the sej lector lever forward or pull it backward, arjrow 2.
Manual mode becomes active and the gear is
changed.
The engaged gear is displayed in the instruj
ment cluster, for instance M1.
Shifting To shift down: press the selector lever forward.
To shift up: pull the selector lever rearwards.
The transmission continues shifting automatij cally in certain situations, for instance when
speed limits are reached.

The Steptronic Sport transmission does not
automatically upshift in M/S manual mode
once the maximum speed is reached, if one of
the following conditions is met:'yDSC deactivated.'yTRACTION activated.

With the respective transmission version, the
lowest possible gear can be selected by simulj
taneously operating the kickdown and the left
shift paddles. This is not possible by switching briefly via the shift paddles from selector leverposition D to manual mode M/S.

In selector lever position D, after conservative
driving in manual mode without acceleration or
shifting via the shift paddles for a certain
amount of time, the transmission switches
back to automatic mode.
It is possible to switch from manual mode into
the automatic mode at any time:'yPull and hold right shift paddle.'yIn addition to the briefly pulled right shift paddle, briefly pull the left shift paddle.

Should the selector lever be blocked in selecj
tor lever position P despite the ignition being
turned on, the brake being depressed and the
button on the selector lever being pressed, the transmission lock can be canceled manually:
Before unlocking the transmission lock manjually, set the parking brake to prevent the vehijcle from rolling away.1.Loosen the selector lever sleeve at thebottom from the center console.2.Lift the sleeve. Unplug the cable connecjtor, if needed.3.Using the screwdriver from the onboardvehicle tool kit, refer to page 219, press
the yellow release lever downward, arrow.4.Move the selector lever slightly toward the
rear; to do this press the button on the
front of the selector lever.
Release the release lever.5.Bring the selector lever into the desired

LaunchControl
Concept
Launch Control enables optimum acceleration on surfaces with good traction under dry surj rounding conditions.
Generalinformation
The use of Launch Control causes premature
component wear since this function represents a very heavy load for the vehicle.
Do not use Launch Control during the break-in, refer to page 174, period.
To start with Launch Control do not steer the steering wheel.
Functionalrequirements
Launch Control is available when the engine is
warmed up, that is, after uninterrupted driving of at least 6 miles/10 km.
Startwithlaunchcontrol
While the engine is running:1. Press button and select SPORT
with the Driving Dynamics Control.
TRACTION is displayed in the instrument
cluster in combination with SPORT and the
DSC OFF indicator light lights up.2.Engage selector lever position S.3.With the left foot, forcefully press down on
the brake.4.Press and hold down the accelerator pedal
beyond the resistance point at the full
throttle position, kickdown.
A flag symbol is displayed in the instruj
ment cluster.5.The starting engine speed adjusts. Within
3 seconds, release the brake.Repeateduseduringatrip
After Launch Control was used, the transmisj
sion must cool down for approx. 5 minutes, bej fore Launch Control can be used again.

To increase vehicle stability, activate DSC Dyj
namic Stability Control again.

CheckControl
Concept
The Check Control system monitors functions
in the vehicle and notifies you of malfunctions
in the monitored systems.
Generalinformation
A Check Control message is displayed as a
combination of indicator or warning lights and
SMS text messages in the instrument cluster
and in the Head-up Display.
In addition, an acoustic signal may sound and
an SMS text message may appear on the Conj trol Display.
Indicator/warninglights
Generalinformation The indicator and warning lights in the instrujment cluster can light up in a variety of combijnations and colors.
Several of the lights are checked for proper
functioning and light up temporarily when the engine is started or the ignition is switched on.
Redlights Safetybeltreminder Safety belt on the driver's side is not
buckled. For some country-specific models: passenger belt is not worn or
objects are detected on the front passengerseat.
Indicator lamp flashes or is illuminated: safety
belt on the driver or passenger side is not
buckled. The safety belt reminder can also be
activated if objects are placed on the front pasj senger seat.
Make sure that the safety belts are positioned correctly.
Airbagsystem Airbag system and belt tensioner arenot working.
Have the vehicle checked immediately
by a dealerss service center or another qualij
fied service center or repair shop.
Parkingbrake The parking brake is set.
