Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if necessary by using the maximum cooling or heating power,
and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
The selected temperature is shown on the disj
play of the automatic climate control.
The automatic climate control reaches this temj perature as quickly as possible, if needed, by inj
creasing the cooling or heating output, and then
keeps it constant.
Do not rapidly switch between different temperaj ture settings. Otherwise, the automatic climatecontrol will not have sufficient time to adjust theset temperature.
Airconditioning Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and dej
humidified and, depending on the temperature setting, warmed again.
The car's interior can only be cooled with the enj
gine running.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with air condij
tioning switched on.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when the enj gine is started.The air conditioning is switched on automatically
with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control, conj densation water, refer to page 227, develops
and drains underneath the vehicle. This is norj mal.
Maximumcooling
Concept
The system is set to the lowest temperature, opj
timum air flow and recirculated-air mode.
Generalinformation
The function is available above an external temj
perature of approx. 32

The air conditioning, refer to page 201, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO proj gram.
At the same time, a condensation sensor conj
trols the program so as to prevent window conj
densation as much as possible.
Intensity
With the AUTO program switched on, the intenj sity can be set. This changes the automatic conjtrol for the air flow and air distribution.
Press the left or right side of the button:
decrease or increase intensity.
The selected intensity is shown on the display of
the automatic climate control.
Automaticrecirculated-aircontrol/
recirculated-airmode
Concept
The automatic recirculated-air control AUC recj
ognizes odors or pollutants in the outside air. The outside air supply is shut off and the interiorair is recirculated.
Generalinformation
If the system is activated, a sensor detects polluj tants in the outside air and controls the shut-offautomatically.
If the system is deactivated, outside air continuj
ously flows into the car's interior.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air qualj
ity in the car's interior deteriorates and the fogj
ging of the windows increases.
Switchingon/off Press button repeatedly to select an opjerating mode:'xLEDs off: outside air flows in continuously.'xLeft LED on, automatic recirculated-air conj
trol: a sensor detects pollutants in the outside
air and shuts off automatically.'xRight LED on, recirculated-air mode: the supj
ply of outside air into the vehicle is permaj
nently blocked.
Recirculated-air mode switches off automatically
at low external temperatures after a certain
amount of time in order to avoid window fogging.
If the windows are fogged over, switch off the rej
circulated-air mode and press the AUTO button
to utilize the condensation sensor. Make sure that air can flow to the windshield.
Controllingtheairflowmanually
Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted
manually.
Generalinformation
To manually adjust air flow switch off AUTO proj gram first.
Operation Press the left or right side of the button:
decrease or increase air flow.
The selected air flow is shown on the display of
the automatic climate control.
The air flow of the automatic climate control may
be reduced automatically to save battery power.

The air distribution for climate control can be adj

SYNCprogram Concept
The system enables the transfer of current setj
tings on the driver's side for temperature, air flow, air distribution, and the AUTO program tothe front passenger side and to the left and right
rear.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The current setting of the temperature
on the driver's side is transferred to the front
passenger side.
The program is switched off if the setting on the
front passenger side is changed.
Defrostingwindowsandremoving
condensation
Concept
Ice and condensation are quickly removed from
the windshield and the front side windows.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the system
switched on.
For this purpose, point the side vents towards
the side windows as needed.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow acj
tive.
If the windows are fogged over, you can also
switch on the air conditioning or press the AUTO
button to utilize the condensation sensor.
Rearwindowdefroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches off
automatically after a certain period of time.
For permanent activation, press the button for
longer than 3 seconds. To deactivate, press the button again.
The rear window defroster can only be activated
continuously at an external temperature below

The parked-car ventilation system is operated via
iDrive.
Functionalrequirements
'xDirect operation: vehicle is in radio-ready

does not depend on external temperature.'xBattery is sufficiently charged.
If parked-car ventilation is switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged. Thus, limit
the maximum activation time to save the vej
hicle battery. The system will be available
again after the engine is started or after a

IntegratedUniversal RemoteControl
Concept
The integrated Universal Remote Control in the interior mirror can operate up to 3 functions of remote-controlled systems, such as garage doordrives, barriers, or lighting systems. The
Integrated Universal Remote Control replaces up to 3 different hand-held transmitters. To operate
the remote control, the buttons on the interior mirror must be programmed with the desiredfunctions. The hand-held transmitter for the parj
ticular system is required in order to program the
remote control.
Before selling the vehicle, delete the stored funcj tions for the sake of security.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operating rej
mote-controlled systems, such as the garage door, using the integrated Universal Remote
Control. There is a risk of injury or risk of damj
age to property. Make sure that the area of
movement of the respective system is clear during programming and operation. Also follow
the safety information of the hand-held transj
mitter.
Compatibility If this symbol is printed on the packaging
or in the owner's manual of the system to
be controlled, the system is generally
compatible with the integrated Universal Remote

Programming
Generalinformation1.Switch on the ignition.2.Initial setup:
Press and hold the two outer buttons on the
interior mirror simultaneously for approxij
mately 20 seconds until the LED on the intej rior mirror flashes. This erases all programj
ming of the buttons on the interior mirror.3.Hold the hand-held transmitter for the system to be controlled approx. 1 to 3 inches/2.5 to
8 cm away from the buttons of the interior mirror. The required distance depends on the
hand-held transmitter.4.Simultaneously press and hold the button of
the desired function on the hand-held transj
mitter and the button to be programmed on the interior mirror. The LED on the interiormirror will begin flashing slowly.5.Release both buttons as soon as the LED
flashes more rapidly. The LED flashing faster indicates that the button on the interior mirrorhas been programmed.
If the LED does not flash faster after at least
60 seconds, change the distance between
the interior mirror and the hand-held transj mitter and repeat the step. Several more atj
tempts at different distances may be necesj
sary. Wait at least 15 seconds between
attempts.
Canada: if programming with the hand-held transmitter was interrupted, hold down the inj
terior mirror button and repeatedly press and
release the hand-held transmitter button for
2 seconds.6.To program other functions on other buttons,
repeat steps 3 to 5.
The systems can be controlled using the interior
mirror buttons.
Specialfeatureoftherollingcode
wirelesssystem
If you are unable to operate the system after rej
peated programming, please check if the system to be controlled features a rolling code radio sysjtem.
Read the system's owner's manual, or press the
programmed button on the interior mirror longer. If the LED on the interior mirror starts flashing
rapidly and then stays lit constantly for 2 secj onds, the system features a rolling code radiosystem. Flashing and continuous illumination ofthe LED will repeat for approximately 20 secj
onds.
For systems with a rolling code radio system, the
integrated Universal Remote Control and the
system also have to be synchronized.
Please read the owner's manual to find out how to synchronize the system.
Synchronizing is easier with the aid of a second
person.
Synchronizing the universal remote control with the system:1.Park the vehicle within range of the remote-
controlled system.2.Program the desired button on the interior mirror as described.3.Locate and press the synchronizing button
on the system being programmed. You have approx. 30 seconds for the next step.4.Hold down the programmed button on the injterior mirror for approximately 3 seconds andthen release it. If necessary, repeat this step
up to three times in order to finish synchronij
zation. Once synchronization is complete, the
programmed function will be carried out.

3.As soon as the interior mirror LED startsflashing slowly, hold the hand-held transmitjter for the system to be controlled approx. 1
to 3 inches/2.5 to 8 cm away from the butj
tons of the interior mirror. The required disj
tance depends on the hand-held transmitter.4.Likewise, press and hold the button of the
desired function on the hand-held transmitj ter.5.Release both buttons as soon as the interior
mirror LED flashes more rapidly. The LED
flashing faster indicates that the button on the interior mirror has been programmed.
The system can then be controlled by the
button on the interior mirror.
If the LED does not flash faster after at most
60 seconds, change the distance and repeat
the programming starting with step 4. Several
more attempts at different distances may be necessary. Wait at least 15 seconds betweenattempts.
Canada: if programming with the hand-held
transmitter was interrupted, hold down the inj
terior mirror button and repeatedly press and

erated using the button on the interior mirror while the engine is running or when the ignition
is started. To do this, hold down the button
within receiving range of the system until the
function is activated. The interior mirror LED
stays lit while the wireless signal is being transj mitted.
Deletingstoredfunctions All stored functions will be deleted. The funcj
tions cannot be deleted individually. Press and hold the two outer buttons on the interior mirror
simultaneously for approximately 20 seconds unj
til the LED on the interior mirror flashes rapidly.

Sets the particular compass zones on the vehicle
so that the compass operates correctly; refer to World map with compass zones.
Worldmapwithmagneticzones
Procedure1.Press and hold the control button for approx.3 to 4 seconds. The number of the set comj
pass zone appears in the mirror.2.To change the zone setting, press the control button quickly and repeatedly until the numj
ber of the compass zone that corresponds with your location appears in the mirror.
The set zone is stored automatically. The comj
pass is ready for use again after approximately
10 seconds.
Calibratingthedigitalcompass
The digital compass must be calibrated in the event of the following:
'xThe wrong compass point is displayed.'xThe point of the compass displayed does notchange despite changing the direction of
travel.'xNot all points of the compass are displayed.
Procedure
1.Make sure that there are no large metallic obj jects or overhead power lines near the vehicle
and that there is sufficient room to drive
around in a circle.2.Set the currently applicable compass zone.3.Press and hold the control button for approx. 6 to 7 seconds so that "C" appears on the
display. Next, drive in a complete circle at least once at a speed of no more than4 mph/7 km/h. If calibration is successful, the

Vanitymirror A vanity mirror is located in the sun visor behind
a cover. When the cover is opened, the interior
lighting switches on.

The ashtray can be inserted in the cup holder.
Emptying
Take out the insert.
Cigarettelighter
WARNING
Contact with the hot heating element or the hot
socket of the cigarette lighter can cause burns. Flammable materials can ignite if the cigarettelighter falls down or is held against the respecjtive objects. There is a risk of fire and injuries.
Take hold of the cigarette lighter by its handle.
Make sure that children do not use the cigaj rette lighter and burn themselves.
NOTE
If metal objects fall into the socket, they can
cause a short circuit. There is a risk of damage to property. Replace the cigarette lighter or
socket cover again after using the socket.
