EjectionMitigationThe head airbag system is designed as anejection mitigation countermeasure to reducethe likelihood of ejections of vehicle occupantsthrough side windows during rollovers or sideimpact events.
Kneeairbag The knee airbag supports the legs in a frontal
impact.
Protectiveaction
Generalinformation
Airbags are not triggered in every impact situaj tion, for instance in less severe accidents orrear-end collisions.

WARNING
If the seat position is incorrect or the dej
ployment area of the airbags is impaired, the airbag system cannot provide protection as inj
tended and may cause additional injuries due
to triggering. There is a risk of injuries or danj
ger to life. Follow the information on achieving
the optimum protective effect of the airbag
system.'

Indicatorlightforthefront-seat
passengerairbags
The indicator light for the front-seat passenger
airbag in the roofliner indicates the operating
state of the front-seat passenger airbag.
The light indicates whether the airbags are eij
ther activated or deactivated.
After drive-ready state is switched on, the light
briefly lights up and then indicates whether the
airbags are either activated or deactivated.
'yThe indicator light lights up
when a child is properly
seated in a child restraint
system or when the seat is
empty. The airbags on the
front passenger side are not
activated.'yThe indicator light does not light up when,
for instance a correctly seated person of
sufficient size is detected on the seat. The
airbags on the front passenger side are acj
tivated.
Detectedchildrestraintsystems
The system generally detects children seated in a child restraint system, particularly in child
restraint systems required by NHTSA at the
point in time when the vehicle was manufacj
tured. After installing a child restraint system,
make sure that the indicator light for the front-
seat passenger airbags lights up. This indij
cates that the child restraint system has been detected and the front-seat passenger airbags
are not activated.
Strengthofthedriver'sandfront-seat
passengerairbag
The explosive power that activates driver's/
front-seat passenger airbags very much dej
pends on the positions of the driver's/front
passenger seat.
To maintain the accuracy of this function over the long term, calibrate the front seats as soon
as a respective message appears on the Conj
trol Display.
Calibratingthefrontseats WARNING
There is a risk of jamming when moving
the seats. There is a risk of injury or risk of damage to property. Make sure that the area ofmovement of the seat is clear prior to any adjjustment.'

Approachcontrolwarning
withlightbrakingfunction
Concept
The system can help prevent accidents. If an
accident cannot be prevented, the system will help reduce the collision speed.
The system sounds a warning before an immij
nent collision and activates brakes independj ently, if needed.
Generalinformation The system is controlled using a camera.
If the vehicle is equipped with a radar sensor,
the approach control warning is additionally
controlled via the cruise control radar sensor.
Intersection warning when equipped with a raj dar sensor: in addition, a warning is issued atintersections and junctions if a risk of collisionwith crossing traffic is detected.
The approach control warning is available even if cruise control has been deactivated. With the vehicle approaching another vehicle
intentionally, the approach control warning and
braking are delayed in order to avoid false sysj
tem reactions.
The system issues a two-phase warning of a possible risk of collision with vehicles at
speeds above approx. 3 mph/5 km/h. Time of
warnings may vary with the current driving sitj uation.
Detectionrange
Objects that the system can detect are taken into account.
Intersection warning: the system is also able to
detect vehicles crossing your direction of travel when these vehicles enter into the dejtection range of the system.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess visibility and trafj fic situation. There is a risk of an accident. Adjjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watchtraffic closely and actively intervene where apj

ver, if necessary.
Prewarning
This warning is issued, for instance when there
is the impending danger of a collision or the distance to the vehicle ahead is too small.
If a prewarning is issued, intervene in the situaj
tion yourself.
Acutewarningwithbrakingfunction
Acute warning is displayed in case of the immij nent danger of a collision when the vehicle apj
proaches another object at a high differential
speed.
If an acute warning is issued, intervene in the
situation yourself. If necessary, the system
provides assistance, such as with an automatic
braking intervention, in a possible risk of collij
sion.
Acute warnings can also be triggered without
previous forewarning.
Brakeintervention,Citylightbraking

is sufficiently quick and hard stepping on thebrake pedal.
The system can additionally assist possibly
with automatic braking intervention if there is a
risk of a collision.
When the vehicle is traveling at a low speed,
the vehicle may come to a complete stop.
The braking intervention takes place up to apj
prox. 50 mph/80 km/h.
The braking intervention occurs only if vehicle stability has not been restricted, for instance
by deactivating the DSC Dynamic Stability
Control.
The driver may cancel the braking intervention
by stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acj tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Follow the
limitations of the detection range and funcj
tional restrictions.

Control:brakingintervention
The warning prompts the driver to react. Durj
ing a warning, the maximum braking force is
used when the brake is actuated. Prerequisite
is sufficiently quick and hard stepping on the
brake pedal.
The system can assist with automatic braking intervention if there is a risk of a collision.
The braking intervention can bring the vehicleto a complete stop.
The braking intervention occurs only if vehicle stability has not been restricted, for instanceby deactivating the DSC Dynamic Stability
Control.
At speeds above approx. 130 mph/210 km/h,
the braking intervention occurs as a brief brakj ing pressure. No automatic delay occurs.
The driver may cancel the braking intervention
by stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acj tively moving the steering wheel.
Cross-traffic warning: brake intervention is not performed in the event of cross traffic.Object detection can be restricted. Follow the
limitations of the detection range and funcj tional restrictions.
Systemlimits
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system can react not at all, too late,
incorrectly, or without justification due to the system limits. There is a risk of accidents or
risk of damage to property. Follow the informaj
tion regarding the system limits and actively intervene, if needed.'

Functionallimitations
The system may not be fully functional in the
following situations:'yIn heavy fog, wet conditions, or snowfall.'yIn tight curves.'yIf the driving stability control systems are limited or deactivated, for instance DSC
OFF.'yIf the field of view of the camera or the
windshield is dirty or covered in the area of
the interior mirror.'yIf the camera has overheated and been temporarily switched off due to excessivelyhigh temperatures.'yDepending on the equipment: if the radar
sensors are dirty or covered.'yUp to 10 seconds after the start of the enj gine via the Start/Stop button.'yDuring calibration of the camera immedijately after vehicle delivery.'yIf there are constant blinding effects bej
cause of oncoming light, for instance from
the sun low in the sky.
Warningsensitivity
The more sensitive the warning settings are,
for example the warning time, the more warnj ings are displayed. Therefore, there may alsobe an excess of premature or unjustified warnj
ings and reactions.
Evasionassistance
Concept
The system supports the driver in making evaj sive maneuvers in certain situations, such as
when obstacles suddenly appear.
Generalinformation
The system issues a warning and intervenes to
support the driver if a lateral evasive maneuver
is possible. Sensors monitor and detect the
clearance around the vehicle. If the system
identifies space alongside the vehicle, it supj
ports an evasive maneuver begun by the driver
by safely providing targeted steering support.
Detectionrange
Objects that the system can detect are takeninto account.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess visibility and trafj
fic situation. There is a risk of an accident. Adj just driving style to traffic conditions. Watchtraffic closely and actively intervene where apj
propriate.'
