HDCHillDescentControl
Concept
Hill Descent Control, HDC, is a downhill control feature that controls the vehicle speed on
steep downhill grades, for instance when drivj
ing on unpaved roads.
When the system is active, the vehicle moves
at the speed set by the driver, without the driver having to depress the brake pedal.
While HTC is controlling the speed, the system
automatically distributes the braking force to
the individual wheels. This improves vehicle drivability and stability. If necessary, the Antij
lock Brake System prevents the wheels from
locking.
Generalinformation
Hill Descent Control can be activated at
speeds below approx. 25 mph/40 km/h.
Speeds can be set between approx.
2 mph/3 km/h and approx. 20 mph/30 km/h.
When the vehicle is moving downhill, the sysj tem reduces the speed to the set value, within
the physical limits.

brake pedal.
DeactivatingHDC Press button again. The LED goes out.HDC is automatically deactivated above
approx. 25 mph/40 km/h.
Malfunction
If a malfunction occurs, a message is displayed
in the instrument cluster.
Variablesportsteering The variable sport steering facilitates a directand agile driving style with little steering effort.
The variable sports steering works independj
ently of the current speed, varying the steering ratio in line with the steering angle.

DriverassistancesystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
CruisecontrolConcept
Using this system, a desired speed can be adj justed using the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed. The system accelerates and brakes automaticallyas needed.
Generalinformation
Depending on the vehicle setting, the cruise
control characteristic can change in certain ranges. For instance, the acceleration in ECOPRO driving mode is more gentle.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving
style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely
and actively intervene where appropriate.'

the vehicle to accelerate more rapidly.
Continuingcruisecontrol
An interrupted cruise control can be continued
by calling up the stored speed.
Make sure that the difference between current
speed and stored speed is not too large before calling up the stored speed. Otherwise, uninjtentional braking or accelerating may occur.

The desired speed is also maintained downhill. The speed may not be maintained on uphill
grades if the engine power is insufficient.
In ECO PRO driving mode, the vehicle may exj ceed or drop below the set desired speed insome situations, for instance on downhill or
uphill grades.

The system maintains the desired speed onclear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle acj
celerates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the
set distance to the vehicle ahead is mainj
tained. The speed is adjusted as far as the
given situation allows.
Generalinformation A radar sensor is located in the front bumper
and a camera on the interior mirror to detect
vehicles driving ahead of you.
Depending on the vehicle setting, the cruise
control characteristic can change in certain
ranges. For instance, the acceleration in ECO
PRO driving mode is more gentle.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respecj
tive speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and
then proceeds to drive again within a brief pej
riod, the system is able to detect this within the
given system limits.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
