Performing
the
foot
movement1.Stand in the middle behind the vehicle atabout an arm's length away from the rear
of the vehicle.2.Wave a foot under the vehicle in the direcj tion of travel and immediately pull it back.With this movement, the leg must pass
through the ranges of both sensors.
Opening
Perform the foot movement described earlier.
The tailgate opens, regardless of whether it was previously locked or unlocked.
Before the opening, the hazard warning sysj
tem flashes.
ClosingPerform the foot movement described earlier.
The hazard warning system flashes on and an acoustic signal sounds before the tailgate
closes.
You can interrupt the closing operation by
moving your foot again.
Malfunction Remote control detection by the vehicle may
malfunction under the following circumstanj
ces:
'yThe battery of the remote control is disj charged. Replace the battery, refer topage 36.'yInterference of the radio connection from
transmission towers or other equipmentwith high transmitting power.'yShielding of the remote control due tometal objects.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with metal objects.'yInterference of the radio connection by
mobile phones or other electronic devices
in direct proximity of the remote control.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with electronic devices.
In the case of a malfunction, unlock and lock
the vehicle using the buttons of the remote
control or using the integrated key, refer to page 37.
Tailgate
General
information To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not placethe remote control in the cargo area.
Depending on your vehicle's equipment and
the country version, it is possible to specify
whether the doors are also unlocked when unj locking with the remote control. Adjusting the
settings, refer to page 45.
Safety
information WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operatj
ing the tailgate. There is a risk of injury. Make
sure that the area of movement of the tailgate
is clear during opening and closing.'

Cover the edges and ensure that pointed obj
jects do not hit the rear window.'

'yPress button, arrow 1, on the inside of the
tailgate.'yPress button, arrow 2.
The vehicle will be locked after closing the
tailgate. The driver's door must be closed
for this purpose and the remote control
must be outside of the vehicle in the area
of the tailgate.
Canceling
the
closing
operation
The closing procedure is interrupted in the folj
lowing situations:
'yIf the vehicle starts off with a jerky movej
ment.'yBy pressing the button on the outside of
the tailgate.'yBy pressing the button on the inside of the tailgate.'yBy releasing the button in the driver's door.
Emergency
unlocking
Pull the handle inside the cargo area.
The tailgate is unlocked.
Personal
Profile
Concept
Using Personal Profile, individual settings for
several drivers can be saved and called up again at a later time.
General
information
There are three driver profiles with which perj
sonal vehicle settings can be stored. Every rej
mote control has one of these driver profiles
assigned.
If the vehicle is unlocked using a remote conj
trol, the assigned personal driver profile will be
activated. All settings stored in the driver proj
file are automatically applied.
If several drivers use their own remote control,
the vehicle will adjust the personal settings
during unlocking. These settings are also rej
stored, if the vehicle has been used in the
meantime by a person with a different remote
control.
Changes to the settings are automatically
saved in the driver profile currently activated.
If another driver profile is selected via iDrive,
the settings saved in it will be applied automatj
ically. The new driver profile is assigned to the
remote control currently used.
There is an additional profile available that is
not assigned to any remote control: It can be
used to apply settings in the vehicle without
changing the personal driver profiles.

Profile
management
Opening
profiles Regardless of the remote control in use, a difjferent profile may be activated. This allows youto call up personal vehicle settings if you did
not unlock the vehicle with your own key.
Via iDrive:

Using
the
guest
profile
The guest profile is for individual settings that are saved in none of the three personal proj
files.
This can be useful for drivers who are using
the vehicle temporarily and do not have their
own profile.

The guest profile cannot be renamed. It is not assigned to the current remote control.
Renaming
profiles A personal name can be assigned to every projfile to avoid confusion between the profiles.

Reset
profiles
The settings of the active profile are reset to
their factory settings.

Exporting
profiles Most settings of the active profile can be exjported.
This can be helpful for saving and retrieving
personal settings, e.g., before delivering the
vehicle to a workshop. Profiles can be taken to another vehicle equipped with the Personal
Profile function.

Popular file systems for USB media are supj
ported. FAT32 and exFAT are the recomj
mended formats for profile export. Other forj
mats may not support the export.
Importing
profiles
Profiles exported via BMW Online can also be imported via BMW Online.
Profiles stored on a USB storage device can be
imported via the USB interface.
Existing settings are overwritten with the imj
ported profile.

Alarm
system General
information
When the vehicle is locked, the vehicle alarm system reacts to the following changes:
'yUnauthorized opening of a door, the hood
or the tailgate.'yMovements in the interior.'yChanges in the vehicle tilt, e. g., during atj tempts at stealing a wheel or when towing
the vehicle.'yDisconnected battery voltage.
The alarm system signals these changes visuj
ally and acoustically:
'yAcoustic alarm.'yBy switching on the hazard warning sysj tem.'yBy flashing the daytime running lights.Switching
on
and
off
When you lock and unlock the vehicle with the
remote control or with Comfort Access, the alarm system is switched on and off at thesame time.
Door
lock
with
the
alarm
system
switched
on
The alarm system is triggered when the door is
opened, if the vehicle has been unlocked via
the door lock.
Switching off the alarm, refer to page 47.
Tailgate
with
the
alarm
system
switched
on
The tailgate can be opened even when thealarm system is switched on.
After the tailgate is closed, it is locked and monitored again provided the doors arelocked. The hazard warning system flashes
once.
Panic
mode
You can trigger the alarm system if you find yourself in a dangerous situation.
Press button on the remote control for
at least 3 seconds.
To switch off the alarm: press any button.
Indicator
lamp
on
the
interior
mirror'yThe indicator lamp flashes briefly every

Interior motion sensor and tilt alarm sensor
are not active, as doors, hood, or tailgate are not correctly closed. Correctly closedaccess points are secured.
When the still open access points are
closed, interior motion sensor and tilt alarm
sensor will be switched on.'yThe indicator lamp goes out after unlockj
ing:
The vehicle has not been tampered with.'yThe indicator lamp flashes after unlocking
until the engine ignition is switched on, but no longer than approx. 5 minutes:
An alarm has been triggered.
Tilt
alarm
sensor The tilt of the vehicle is monitored.
The alarm system responds in situations such
as attempts to steal a wheel or when the vehij
cle is towed.
Interior
motion
sensor
The windows and the glass sunroof must be
closed for the system to function properly.
Avoiding
unintentional
alarms
General
information
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion senj
sor can trigger an alarm, although no unauthorj ized action occurred.
Possible situations for an unwanted alarm:
'yIn automatic vehicle washes.'yIn duplex garages.'yDuring transport on trains carrying vehij
cles, at sea or on a trailer.'yWith animals in the vehicle.
The tilt alarm sensor and the interior motion sensor can be switched off in such situations.
Switching
off
the
tilt
alarm
sensor
and
interior
motion
sensor
Press the remote control button again
within 10 seconds as soon as the vehicle
is locked.
The indicator lamp lights up for approx. 2 secj
onds and then continues to flash.
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion senj
sor are turned off until the vehicle is locked
again.
Switching
off
the
alarm'yUnlock the vehicle with the remote control or switch on the ignition, if needed through
emergency detection of remote control, rej fer to page 37.'yWith Comfort Access:
If you are carrying the remote control on
your person, grasp the door handle on the driver's or front passenger door comj

Power
windows
Safety
information WARNING
When operating the windows, body parts
and objects can be jammed. There is a risk of injury or risk of property damage. Make surethat the area of movement of the windows isclear during opening and closing.'

Safety

General
information
The safety switch in the driver's door can be
used to prevent children, e.g., from opening and closing the rear windows using the
switches in the rear.
If an accident of a certain severity occurs, the safety function is switched off automatically.
Switching
on
and
off Press button.
The LED lights up if the safety funcj
tion is switched on.
Glass
sunroof,
electric
General
information The glass sunroof and the sliding visor can be
operated together or separately using the
same switch.
The glass sunroof is operational when the ignij tion is switched on.
Safety
information WARNING

ing the glass sunroof. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that the area of movement of theglass sunroof is clear during opening and closjing.'

The glass sunroof and sliding visor open
automatically.
The glass sunroof closes automatically.
The sliding visor can be manually closed.
Pressing the switch upward stops the moj
tion.

Comfort
position
If the glass sunroof is not completely opened
automatically, the comfort position has been attained. In this position the wind noises in theinterior are the least.
If desired, continue the movement by pressing
the switch.
Pinch
protection
system
General
information
If the closing force when closing the glass sunj
roof exceeds a certain value, the closing movej ment is stopped, beginning at approximately
the middle of the opening in the roof, or from
the tilted position during closing. The glass
sunroof reopens slightly.
Closing
from
the
open
position
without
pinch
protection
If there is an external danger, proceed as folj
lows:
1.Press the switch forward beyond the rej
sistance point and hold.
The pinch protection is limited and the
glass sunroof reopens slightly if the closing
force exceeds a certain threshold.2.Press the switch forward again beyond the resistance point and hold until the glass
sunroof closes without jam protection. Make sure that the closing area is clear.
Closing
from
the
raised
position
without
pinch
protection
If there is an external danger,
push the switch forward past the
resistance point and hold it.
The glass sunroof closes withj
out jam protection.
Initializing
after
a
power
interruption
General
information After a power failure during the opening orclosing process, the glass sunroof can only be
operated to a limited extent.
The system can be initialized when the vehicle
is stationary and the engine is running.
During the initialization, the glass sunroof
closes without jam protection.
Make sure that the closing area is clear.
Initializing
the
system Press the switch up and hold ituntil the initialization is comj
plete:
Initialization begins within
15 seconds and is completed
when the glass sunroof is completely closed.
