danger
If a collision with a person or an animal de#j tected in this way is imminent, a warning sym#j
bol appears on the instrument cluster and in the Head-up Display.
Although both the shape and the heat radiation
are analyzed, false warnings cannot be ruled
out.
Warningareainfrontofthevehicle
The warning area for the pedestrian warning consists of two parts:
'yCentral area, arrow 1, directly in front of thevehicle.'yExpanded area, arrow 2, to the right and
left.
With animal warnings, no distinction is made
between the central or expanded area.
The entire area moves along with the vehicle in
the direction of the steering angle and changes
with the vehicle speed. As the vehicle speed
increases, the area becomes longer and wider, for example.

DisplayintheHead-upDisplay
The warning is displayed simultaneously in the Head-up Display and on the instrument clus#jter.
Prewarning
Prewarning for persons is displayed when a person is detected in the central area immedi#j
ately in front of the vehicle as well as on the left
or right side in the extended area.
Prewarning for animals is displayed when an
animal is detected in the front of the vehicle.
The driver must intervene actively by braking
or making an evasive maneuver when there is a
prewarning.
Acutewarning
Acute warning is displayed if a person or an animal is detected in direct proximity if front of the vehicle.
The driver must immediately intervene actively by braking or making an evasive maneuver
when there is an acute warning.
Systemlimits
Basiclimits The system may not be fully functional in the
following situations:'yOn steep hills, in steep depressions or in
tight curves.'yIf the camera is soiled or damaged.'yIn heavy fog, rain or snowfall.'yAt very high external temperatures.
Limitsofpedestrianandanimal
detection
In some situations, it may occur that pedes#j
trians are detected as animals or animals as
pedestrians.
Small animals are not detected by the object
detection function, even if they are clearly visi#j ble in the image.
Limited detection, for example in the following
circumstances:
'yPeople or animals who are fully or partially covered, especially when their heads are
covered.'yPeople who are not in an upright position,
for example, lying down.'yCyclists on unconventional bicycles (for example, recumbent bicycles).'yAfter physical damage to the system, forexample, after an accident.

Lanedeparturewarning Concept
Starting at a specific speed, this system alerts you when the vehicle on streets with lanemarkings is about to leave the lane. This

speed, depending on the country version, is
between 35 mph/55 km/h and
45 mph/70 km/h.
The steering wheel begins vibrating gently in
the event of warnings. The time of the warning
may vary depending on the current driving sit#j
uation.
The system does not provide a warning if the
turn signal is set before leaving the lane.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release the driver
from the personal responsibility to correctly assess route and traffic situation. There is arisk of an accident. Adjust the driving style to
the traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively intervene in the respective situations. In the event of a warning, do not unnecessarilyjerk the steering wheel.'

Issuedwarning
If you leave the lane and if a lane marking has
been detected, the steering wheel begins vi#j
brating.
If the turn signal is set before changing the
lane, a warning is not issued.
Endofwarning
The warning is canceled in the following situa#j tions:
'yAutomatically after approx. 3 seconds.'yWhen returning to your own lane.'yWhen braking hard.'yWhen using the turn signal.
Systemlimits
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system can react incorrectly or not
at all due to the system limits. There is a risk of
accidents or risk of property damage. Observe the information regarding the system limits
and actively intervene, if needed.'

Before you change lanes after setting the turn
signal, the system issues a warning in the sit#j
uations described above.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing flashes and the steering wheel vibrates.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess visi#j bility and traffic situation. There is a risk of anaccident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic
conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively intervene in the respective situations.'

Prewarning
The dimmed lamp in the exterior mirror hous#j ing indicates when there are vehicles in the
blind spot or approaching from behind.
Acutewarning
If the turn signal is set while a vehicle is in the
critical zone, the steering wheel vibrates briefly
and the lamp in the exterior mirror housing
flashes brightly.
The warning stops when the turn signal is
switched off, or the other vehicle leaves the
critical zone.
Briefflashing
A brief flashing of the lamp during vehicle un#j
locking serves as system self-test.

ActiveProtectionGeneralinformation
The Active Protection safety package consists
of systems that are independent of each other:'yAttentiveness assistant.'yPreCrash.'yPostCrash.
Attentivenessassistant
Concept
The system can detect decreasing alertness or
fatigue of the driver during long, monotonous trips, e.g., on highways. In this situation, it is
recommended that the driver takes a break.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess
one's physical state. An increasing lack of
alertness or fatigue may not be detected or not
be detected in time. There is a risk of an acci#j
dent. Make sure that the driver is rested and
alert. Adjust the driving style to the traffic con#j
ditions.'

'ySevere understeering.'ySevere oversteering.
If the vehicle includes the front-end collisionwarning or front-end collision warning with
braking feature, impending collisions with vehi#j cles driving ahead or stopped in front of you
can also be detected within the system's
range.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility. Due to the system lim#j its, critical situation could not be detected reli#j
ably or in time. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic condi#jtions. Watch traffic closely and actively inter#jvene in the respective situations.'

DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.
Anti-lockBrakingSystem
ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during
braking.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing
active safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the en#j gine.
Brakeassistant When you apply the brakes rapidly, this systemautomatically produces the greatest possible
braking force boost. It reduces the braking dis#j
tance to a minimum during emergency stop.
This system utilizes all of the benefits provided
by ABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.
Adaptivebrakeassistant In combination with the Active Cruise Control,
this system ensures that the brakes respond
even more rapidly when braking in critical sit#j
uations.Drive-offassistant
Concept
This system supports driving off on inclines. The parking brake is not required.
Drivingoffwiththedrive-offassistant1.Hold the vehicle in place with the foot
brake.2.Release the foot brake and drive off with#j
out delay.
After the foot brake is released, the vehicle is held in place for approx. 2 seconds.
Depending on the vehicle load, the vehicle may roll back slightly.
AutomaticDifferentialBrake
The system controls the driving force by auto#j matic braking intervention on individual
wheels. The function corresponds to a differ#j
ential lock: the system detects if a wheel be#j
gins to spin, because of loose road surface,
e.g., and automatically brakes it.
The driving force is diverted to the wheel with
better traction.
As a result, the engine force is transferred more efficiently to the wheels during accelera#j tions.
DynamicPerformance
ControlDPC
The Dynamic Performance Control increases both the agility of the vehicle as well as the
lane stability.
The system seamlessly handles the distribu#j tion of the drive torque between the two rear
wheels.
