FuelVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.
Fuelrecommendation
Generalinformation Depending on the region, many gas stations
sell fuel that has been customized to winter or
summer conditions. Fuel that is available in
winter, e.g., helps make a cold start easier.
Gasoline
Generalinformation For the best fuel efficiency, the gasolineshould be sulfur-free or very low in sulfur con#jtent.
Fuels that are marked on the gas pump as con#j taining metal must not be used.
Fuels with a maximum ethanol content of
10 %, i. e., E10, may be used for refueling.
Ethanol should satisfy the following quality
standards:
US: ASTM 4806#mxx
CAN: CGSB-3.511#mxx
xx: comply with the current standard in each
case.Safetyinformation
NOTE
Do not press the Start/Stop button after
refueling with the wrong fuel. Furthermore, the
catalytic converter is permanently damaged.
There is a risk of property damage. Do not re#j fuel or add the following in the case of gasoline
engines:'yLeaded gasoline.'yMetallic additives, e.g., manganese or iron.
Do not press the Start/Stop button after refuel#j ing with the wrong fuel. Contact a dealer#ss
service center or another qualified service cen#j
ter or repair shop.'

center or another qualified service center or re#jpair shop within the course of regular mainte#j
nance.
To be able to start the engine as usual, there
must be an adequate diesel exhaust fluid.
Warmingupthesystem In order to warm the engine up to its operating
temperature after a cold start, the Steptronic transmission may subsequently shift up to the
next higher gear.
Displaysintheinstrumentcluster
Reserveindication This display in the instrument cluster provides
information about the distance that can still be
driven with the current reserve level.
Do not continue driving to the limit of the re#j
maining travel distance. It is not possible to re#j start the engine after switching it off.'yLamp white: refill with diesel
exhaust fluid at the next op#j

diesel exhaust fluid present.
The remaining range is dis#j

cluster. Immediately refill
with diesel exhaust fluid.

A Check Control message is displayed when
there is a system not working.
Havethedieselexhaustfluid
replenished
BMW recommends that diesel exhaust fluid be added by the dealer#ss service center within thecourse of regular maintenance.
In addition it may be necessary to have the fluid replenished several times under particular
circumstances, e.g., if the vehicle is driven in a
particularly sporty style or if it is driven at high
altitudes.
The diesel exhaust fluid must be replenished
as soon as the reserve display appears in the instrument cluster to avoid not being able to
restart the engine.
Dieselexhaustfluidatlow

Due to its physical properties, it is possiblethat the diesel exhaust fluid may also need to
be replenished between regular maintenance
appointments if it is exposed to temperatures

Tireinflationpressure
Safetyinformation
The tire characteristics and tire inflation pres#j
sure influence the following:'yThe service life of the tires.'yRoad safety.'yDriving comfort.
Checkingthetireinflationpressure
WARNING
A tire with low or missing tire inflation
pressure impacts handling, such as steering
and braking response. There is a risk of an ac#j
cident. Regularly check the tire inflation pres#j sure, and correct it as needed, e.g., twice amonth and before a long trip.'

These pressure values can also be found onthe tire inflation pressure label on the driver's
door pillar.
Do not exceed a speed of 100 mph/160 km/h.
