Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility. Due to the system limits, braking can be late. There is a risk of accidentsor risk of damage to property. Be aware to thetraffic situation at all times. Adjust the distance
to the traffic and weather conditions and mainj
tain the prescribed safety distance, possibly by braking.'

Detectedvehicle
Symbol lights up orange:
A vehicle has been detected ahead of
you.
Rolling bars: the detected vehicle has driven
away.
ACC does not accelerate. To accelerate, actij
vate ACC by briefly stepping on the acceleraj
tor pedal or pressing the RES button or the rocker switch.
Indicator/warninglights Symbol flashes orange:
The conditions are not adequate for
the system to work.
The system was deactivated but applies the brakes until you actively resume control by
pressing on the brake pedal or accelerator
pedal.
Symbol flashes red and a signal
sounds:
Brake and make an evasive maneuver,
if necessary.
DisplaysintheHead-upDisplay Some system information can also be disjplayed in the Head-up Display.
Distanceinformation The symbol is displayed when the disj
tance from the vehicle traveling ahead
is too short.
The distance information is active under the
following circumstances:'yActive Cruise Control switched off.'yDisplay in the Head-up Display selected, refer to page 110.'yDistance too short.'ySpeed greater than approx.
40 mph/70 km/h.
Systemlimits
Detectionrange
The detection capacity of the system and the
automatic braking capacity are limited.
Two-wheeled vehicles for instance might not
be detected.

Deceleration
The system does not decelerate in the followj ing situations:'yFor pedestrians or similarly slow-moving
road users.'yFor red traffic lights.'yFor cross traffic.'yFor oncoming traffic.
Swervingvehicles
A vehicle driving in front of you is not detected until it is completely within the same lane as
your vehicle.
If a vehicle driving ahead of you suddenly
swerves into your lane, the system may not be able to automatically restore the selected disj
tance. It may not be possible to restore the sej
lected distance in certain situations, including if you are driving significantly faster than vehijcles driving ahead of you, for instance when
rapidly approaching a truck. When a vehicle
driving ahead of you is reliably detected, the
system requests that the driver intervene by
braking and carrying out evasive maneuvers, if
needed.
Cornering
If the desired speed is too high for a curve, the
speed is reduced slightly, although curves canj not be anticipated in advance. Therefore, drive
into a curve at an appropriate speed.
The system has a limited detection range. Sitj uations can arise in tight curves where a vehij
cle driving ahead will not be detected or will be
detected very late.
When you approach a curve the system may briefly report vehicles in the next lane due to
the bend of the curve. If the system decelerj
ates you may compensate it by briefly accelerj
ating.
After releasing the accelerator pedal the sysj tem is reactivated and controls speed indej
pendently.
Drivingaway In some situations, the vehicle cannot drive off
automatically; for example:
'yOn steep uphill grades.'yFrom bumps in the road.
In these cases, step on the accelerator pedal.

Weather
The following restrictions can occur under unj
favorable weather or light conditions:'yPoorer vehicle recognition.'yShort-term interruptions for vehicles that
are already recognized.
Examples of unfavorable weather or light conj
ditions:
'yWet conditions.'ySnowfall.'ySlush.'yFog.'yGlare.
Drive attentively, and react to the current traffic situation. If necessary, intervene actively, for
instance by braking, steering or evading.
Enginepower The desired speed is also maintained downhill, but may not be maintained on uphill grades if
engine power is insufficient.
Malfunction
The system cannot be activated if the radar
sensor is not aligned correctly. This may be
caused by damage incurred, for instance durj
ing parking.
A Check Control message is displayed if the system fails.
The function for detecting and responding when approaching stationary vehicles may be limited in the following situations:
'yDuring calibration of the camera immedijately after vehicle delivery.'yIf the camera is malfunctioning or dirty. ACheck Control message is displayed.Cruisecontrol
Concept
Using this system, a desired speed can be adj justed using the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed. The system accelerates and brakes automaticallyas needed.
Generalinformation
Depending on the driving settings, the features
of the cruise control can change in certain areas.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closelyand actively intervene where appropriate.'

pressure on the accelerator pedal.
After the rocker switch is released, the vej
hicle maintains its final speed. Pressing the
switch beyond the resistance point causes
the vehicle to accelerate more rapidly.
Continuingcruisecontrol
Generalinformation
An interrupted cruise control can be continued
by calling up the stored speed.
Make sure that the difference between current speed and stored speed is not too large before
calling up the stored speed. Otherwise, uninj
tentional braking or accelerating may occur.
In the following cases, the stored speed value
is deleted and cannot be called up again:'yWhen the system is switched off.'yWhen the ignition is switched off.

Concept
PDC is a support when parking. When you
slowly approach an object in the rear - or also
in the front of the vehicle if the feature is availaj ble - then the object is reported through:'ySignal tones.'yVisual display.
Generalinformation
The ultrasound sensors for measuring the disj
tances are located in the bumpers.
The maneuvering range, depending on the obj
stacle and environmental conditions, is approx.
6 ft/2 m.
An acoustic warning is first given in the followj ing situations:
'yBy the front sensors and the two rear corj
ner sensors at approx. 24 in/60 cm from
the object.'yBy the rear middle sensors at a distance to
the object of approx. 5 ft/1.50 m.'yWhen a collision is imminent.

Switchingon/off
Switchingonautomatically The system switches on automatically in thefollowing situations:'yIf selector lever position R is engagedwhen the engine is running.
The rearview camera also switches on.'yIf equipped with front PDC: when obstaj
cles are detected behind or in front of the vehicle by PDC and the speed is slower
than approx. 2.5 mph/4 km/h.
You may switch off automatic activation when obstacles are detected. Via iDrive:
1."Settings"2."Parking"3.Select setting.
The setting is stored for the driver profile
currently used.
If necessary, switch off automatic PDC activaj tion on obstacle detection, for instance in vehij
cle washes, to reduce false alarms.

Press park assistance button.
'yOn: the LED lights up.'yOff: the LED goes out.
The rearview camera image is displayed if the
reverse gear is engaged when pressing the
park assistance button.
WARNING
Signaltones An intermittent tone indicates when the vehij
cle is approaching an object. E.g., if an object
is detected to the left rear of the vehicle, a sigj nal tone sounds from the left rear speaker.
The shorter the distance to the object, theshorter the intervals.
If the distance to a detected object is less than
approx. 10 inches/25 cm, a continuous tone is sounded.
With front PDC: if objects are simultaneously
located both in front of and behind the vehicle, an alternating continuous signal is sounded.
The signal tone is switched off, when selector
lever position P is engaged on vehicles with Steptronic transmission.
Volume The ratio of the PDC signal tone volume to theentertainment volume can be adjusted.
Via iDrive:1."Multimedia", "Radio" or "Settings"2."Tone"3."Volume settings"4."PDC"5.Turn the Controller until the desired setj ting is selected.6.Press the Controller.
Settings are stored for the profile currentlyused.
Visualwarning
The approach of the vehicle to an object can
be shown on the Control Display. Objects that
are farther away are already displayed on the
Control Display before a signal sounds.
A display appears as soon as Park Distance
Control (PDC) is activated.
