ClimatecontrolVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.Interiorairquality
The air quality inside the vehicle is improved
by an emissions-tested interior, a microfilter, and a climate-control system for regulatingtemperature, air flow, and recirculated-airmode.
In addition there are other functions which dej
pend on the vehicle's equipment, for instance microfilter/activated-charcoal filter, automaticclimate control with automatic recirculated-air
control AUC, and parked-car ventilation.

Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if needed,
by using the maximum cooling or heating caj
pacity, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temj
perature settings. Otherwise, the automatic clij mate control will not have sufficient time to adj
just the set temperature.
Airconditioning
Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and dehumidified and, depending on the temperaj
ture setting, warmed again.
The car's interior can only be cooled with the
engine running.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with air condij
tioning switched on.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when the enj
gine is started.
The air conditioning is switched on automatij cally with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control,

adjusted manually.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select aprogram:'yUpper body region.'yUpper body region and floor area.'yFloor area.'yWindows and floor area.'yWindows, upper body region, and floor
area.'yWindows: driver's side only.'yWindows and upper body region.
If the windows are fogged over, press the AUTO button on the driver's side to utilize the
condensation sensor.
SYNCprogram
Concept
The system enables the transfer of current
settings on the driver's side for temperature, air flow, air distribution, and the AUTO proj
gram to the front passenger side and to the left and right rear.
Switchingon/off The program is also switched off if thesettings on the front passenger side or
in the rear are changed.
Residualheat Concept
The heat stored in the engine is used to heat
the car's interior. This is possible up to 15 mij
nutes after switching off the engine.
Functionalrequirement'yWarm engine.'yThe battery is sufficiently charged.'yExternal temperature below 77

condensation
Concept
Ice and condensation are quickly removed from the windshield and the front side winj
dows.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the sysj
tem switched on.
For this purpose, point the side vents towards the side windows as needed.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow

switch on the air conditioning or press the
AUTO button to utilize the condensation senj
sor.
Rearwindowdefroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches
off automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated-charcoalfilter
The microfilter removes dust and pollen from
the incoming air.
The activated-charcoal filter removes gaseous
pollutants from the outside air that enters the
vehicle.
Have this combined filter changed during vehij
cle maintenance, refer to page 262.Ventilation

Parked-carventilation
Concept
The parked-car ventilation ventilates the car's interior and lowers its temperature, if needed.
Generalinformation
The system can be switched on and off dij
rectly or by using two preset departure times.
The activation time is automatically deterj
mined based on the temperature. The system
promptly switches on before the selected dej
parture time.
Operation can be performed via iDrive.
Functionalrequirements
Parked-carventilation'yDeparture time preselected: depends on the internal, external, and set desired temj
perature.'yDirect operation: does not depend on the
external temperature.'yBattery is sufficiently charged.
If parked-car ventilation is switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged. Thus,
limit the maximum activation time to save
the vehicle battery. The system will be available again after the engine is started or
after a short trip.'yMake sure that the vehicle's date and time
are set correctly.'yOpen the vents to allow air to flow out.

IntegratedUniversalRemote
Control
Concept
The integrated Universal Remote Control in
the interior mirror can operate up to 3 funcj
tions of remote-controlled systems, such as
garage door drives, barriers, or lighting sysj
tems. The Integrated Universal Remote Conj
trol replaces up to 3 different hand-held transj
mitters. To operate the remote control, the
buttons on the interior mirror must be proj
grammed with the desired functions. The
hand-held transmitter for the particular system
is required in order to program the remote conj
trol.
Before selling the vehicle, delete the stored
functions for the sake of security.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operatj
ing remote-controlled systems, such as the garage door, using the integrated UniversalRemote Control. There is a risk of injury or risk
of damage to property. Make sure that the area of movement of the respective system is clear
during programming and operation. Also followthe safety information of the hand-held transj mitter.'
