Deactivating
the
function
manually
The function can be deactivated in the Configj
ure ECO PRO menu, for instance to use the
braking effect of the engine when traveling
downhill.
Settings are stored for the profile currently used.

The function is not available if one of the folj lowing conditions applies:

General
information
Follow the fuel recommendation, refer to
page 226, prior to refueling.
In vehicles with a diesel engine, the filler neck
is designed for refueling at diesel fuel pumps.
Safety
information NOTE
With a driving range of less than
30 miles/50 km the engine may no longer have
sufficient fuel. Engine functions are not enj sured anymore. There is a risk of damage to
property. Refuel promptly.'

ClosingWARNING
The retaining strap of the fuel cap can be
jammed and crushed during closing. The cap cannot be correctly closed. Fuel or fuel vapors
can escape. There is a risk of injury or risk of damage to property. Pay attention that the rejtaining strap is not jammed or crushed whenclosing the cap.'

Fuel
recommendation
General
information Depending on the region, many gas stations
sell fuel that has been customized to winter or
summer conditions. Fuel that is available in
winter, for instance helps make a cold start
easier.
Gasoline
General
information For the best fuel efficiency, the gasoline
should be sulfur-free or very low in sulfur conj tent.
Fuels that are marked on the gas pump as conj taining metal must not be used.
Fuels with a maximum ethanol content of 10 %, i. e., E10, may be used for refueling.
Ethanol should meet the following quality stanj dards:
US: ASTM 4806mxx
CAN: CGSB-3.511mxx
xx: comply with the current standard in each
case.Safety

NOTE
Do not press the Start/Stop button after
refueling with the wrong fuel. Furthermore, the
catalytic converter is permanently damaged.
There is a risk of damage to property. Do not refuel or add the following in the case of gasojline engines:'yLeaded gasoline.'yMetallic additives, for instance manganese
or iron.

BMW Advanced Diesel reduces nitrogen oxj
ides in the diesel emissions by injecting diesel exhaust fluid into the exhaust system. A chemj
ical reaction takes place inside the catalytic converter that minimizes nitrogen oxides.

information
The vehicle has two tanks, the The active tank
can be refilled in the engine compartment. The
passive tank is refilled by a dealerss service
center or another qualified service center or rej pair shop within the course of regular maintej
nance.
To be able to start the engine as usual, there must be an adequate diesel exhaust fluid.
Diesel exhaust fluid is available at many gasstations.
Diesel

low
temperatures
Due to its physical properties, it is possiblethat the diesel exhaust fluid may also need to
be replenished between regular maintenance
appointments if it is exposed to temperatures
under +23 

The diesel exhaust fluid must be replenishedas soon as the reserve display appears in theinstrument cluster to avoid not being able to
restart the engine.

exceptional
cases
General
information You can replenish Diesel exhaust fluid yourself
in exceptional cases, for instance to get to your
scheduled service.
Safety
information WARNING
Small amounts of ammonia fumes can
escape when opening the diesel exhaust fluid
container. Ammonia fumes have a pungent
odor and irritate skin, mucous membranes, and eyes. There is a risk of injury. Do not inhale esjcaping ammonia fumes. Avoid the contact ofarticles of clothing, skin or eyes with diesel exj
haust fluid. Do not swallow any diesel exhaust
fluid. Keep children away from diesel exhaust
fluids.'

3.Place the bottle on it and turn it as far as it
will go, see arrow.4.Press the bottle down, see arrow.
The vehicle tank will be filled.
The tank is full when the fill level in the botj
tle no longer changes. It is not possible to overfill.5.Pull back the bottle, see arrow, and unjscrew it.6.Replace the fuel cap and turn it clockwise.7.Close the hood.Filling

fluid

information
A Check Control message is displayed when
an incorrect fluid is added.
In the case that an incorrect fluid was refilled, contact a dealerss service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop.
Safety
information WARNING
After adding an incorrect fluid, for inj
stance antifreeze for washer fluid, the system
can heat and ignite. There is a risk of fire and
injuries. Do not add incorrect fluids. Do not
start the engine after adding an incorrect
fluid.'
