Functionallimitations
The system may not be fully functional in the

Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Ultrasonic measurements might not function in
the following situations:

sound, e.g., from passing vehicles or loud machines.'yWhen sensors are dirty, iced over, damj
aged or out of position.'yUnder certain weather conditions such as

This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.Interiorairquality
The air quality inside the vehicle is improved
by an emissions-tested interior, a microfilter, and a climate-control system for regulatingtemperature, air flow, and recirculated-airmode.
In addition there are other functions which dej
pend on the vehicle's equipment, for instance microfilter/activated-charcoal filter, automaticclimate control with automatic recirculated-air
control AUC, and parked-car ventilation.

Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if needed,
by using the maximum cooling or heating caj
pacity, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temj
perature settings. Otherwise, the automatic clij
mate control will not have sufficient time to adj
just the set temperature.
Airconditioning
Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and
dehumidified and, depending on the temperaj
ture setting, warmed again.
The car's interior can only be cooled with the
engine running.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Air conditioning is switched on or off.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when the enj
gine is started.
The air conditioning is switched on automatij cally with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water, refer to page 192, develj
ops and drains underneath the vehicle. This is
normal.
MaximumcoolingConcept
The system is set to the lowest temperature,
optimum air flow and recirculated-air mode.
Generalinformation
The function is available above an external temperature of approx. 32

Air flows out of the vents to the upper body rej
gion. The vents need to be open for this.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow
active.
AUTOprogram
Concept
Air flow, air distribution and temperature are
controlled automatically.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Depending on the selected temperaj
ture, the intensity of the AUTO program, and outside influences, the air is directed to thewindshield, side windows, upper body, and
into the floor area.
The air conditioning, refer to page 163, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO proj gram.
At the same time, a condensation sensor conj trols the program so as to prevent window
condensation as much as possible.
Intensity
With the AUTO program activated, the autoj
matic intensity control can be changed.
Press the left or right side of the butj
ton: decrease or increase intensity.
The selected intensity is shown on the display
of the automatic climate control.
Automaticrecirculated-aircontrol/
recirculated-airmode
Concept
The automatic recirculated-air control AUC detects odors or pollutants in the outside air.The outside air supply is shut off and the intej
rior air is recirculated.
Generalinformation
If the system is activated, a sensor detects polj
lutants in the outside air and controls the shut-
off automatically.
If the system is deactivated, outside air continj uously flows into the car's interior.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the car's interior deteriorates and the
fogging of the windows increases.
Switchingon/off Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:'yLEDs off: outside air flows in continuously.'yLeft LED on, automatic recirculated-air
control: a sensor detects pollutants in the
outside air and shuts off automatically.'yRight LED on, recirculated-air mode: the
supply of outside air into the vehicle is perj manently blocked.
If the windows are fogged over, switch off the
recirculated-air mode and press the AUTO
button on the driver's side to utilize the conj densation sensor. Make sure that air can flow
to the windshield.
Controllingtheairflowmanually Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted manually.

To manually adjust air flow switch off AUTO
program first.

the automatic climate control.
The air flow of the automatic climate control may be reduced automatically to save battery
power.

Concept
The air distribution for climate control can be
adjusted manually.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select a
program:'yUpper body region.'yUpper body region and floor area.'yFloor area.'yWindows and floor area.'yWindows, upper body region, and floor
area.'yWindows: driver's side only.'yWindows and upper body region.
If the windows are fogged over, press the AUTO button on the driver's side to utilize the
condensation sensor.
SYNCprogram
Concept
The system enables the transfer of current
settings on the driver's side for temperature, air flow, air distribution, and the AUTO proj
gram to the front passenger side and to the left and right rear.
Switchingon/off The program is also switched off if thesettings on the front passenger side or
in the rear are changed.
Residualheat
Concept
The heat stored in the engine is used to heat
the car's interior. This is possible up to 15 mij nutes after switching off the engine.

For this purpose, point the side vents towardsthe side windows as needed.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow
active.
If the windows are fogged over, you can also
switch on the air conditioning or press the
AUTO button to utilize the condensation senj
sor.
Rearwindowdefroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches
off automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated-charcoalfilter
The microfilter removes dust and pollen from the incoming air.
The activated-charcoal filter removes gaseous pollutants from the outside air that enters the
vehicle.
Have this combined filter changed during vehij
cle maintenance, refer to page 227.
Ventilation Frontventilation'yThumbwheels to vary the ventilation temjperature in the upper body region, arrow 1.
Toward blue: colder.
Toward red: warmer.This does not change the set interior temj perature for the driver and front passenger.'yLever for changing the air flow direction,

UniversalIntegratedRemote
Control
Concept
The integrated Universal Remote Control in
the interior mirror can operate up to 3 funcj
tions of remote-controlled systems, such as
garage door drives or lighting systems. The integrated Universal Remote Control replaces
up to 3 different hand-held transmitters. To
operate the remote control, the buttons on the
interior mirror must be programmed with the
desired functions. The hand-held transmitter
for the particular system is required in order to
program the remote control.
Before selling the vehicle, delete the stored
functions for the sake of security.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operatj
ing remote-controlled systems, e.g., the gaj
rage door, using the integrated universal rej mote control. There is a risk of injury or risk ofproperty damage. Make sure that the area ofmovement of the respective system is clear
during programming and operation. Also followthe safety instructions of the hand-held transj
mitter.'
