The sensor has an approximate range of 5 ft/1.50 m extending from the rear of the vehij
cle.
If the tailgate is opened with no-touch activaj
tion, locked doors are not unlocked.

During no-touch activation, vehicle parts
may be touched, e.g., hot exhaust system.
There is a risk of injury. When moving your
foot, make sure you have a firm stance and do
not touch the vehicle.'

Tailgate
Generalinformation To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not placethe remote control in the cargo area.
Depending on your vehicle's equipment and
the country version, it is possible to specify
whether the doors are also unlocked when unj locking with the remote control. Adjusting the
settings, refer to page 47.

The lower tailgate must be closed; otherwise, a
Check Control message will appear.

Press the button on tailgate's exterior.

Pull and hold the button in the driverdoor.
The remote control must be located in the inj
terior for this function.
Frominsidethetailgate
Without Comfort Access:
Press button on the inside of the tailgate.
With Comfort Access:
'yPress button, arrow 1, on the inside of the
tailgate.'yPress button, arrow 2.
The vehicle will be locked after closing the
tailgate. The driver's door must be closed
for this purpose and the remote control
must be outside of the vehicle in the area
of the tailgate.
Cancelingtheclosingoperation

Pull the lever and swivel the tailgate down.
The open tailgate can withstand a load of up to 550 lbs/250 kg.
Closing Swivel the tailgate up and press it closed.
Malfunction

Profilemanagement
Openingprofiles Regardless of the remote control in use, a difjferent profile may be activated. This allows youto call up personal vehicle settings, even if you
did not unlock the vehicle with your own rej
mote control.
Using iDrive:1."Settings"2."Profiles"3.Select a profile.
The following functions are executed:
'yAll settings stored in the called-up profile are automatically applied.'yThe called-up profile is assigned to the rejmote control being used at the time.'yIf the profile is already assigned to a differjent remote control, this profile will apply toboth remote controls.
Usingaguestprofile
The guest profile is for individual settings thatare stored in none of the three personal proj
files.
Using iDrive:

The guest profile cannot be renamed. It is not assigned to the current remote control.
Renamingprofiles A personal name can be assigned to every projfile to avoid confusion between the profiles.

Resetprofiles
The settings of the profile currently in use are reset to their factory settings.

Exporting can be helpful for storing and rej trieving personal settings, for instance before
delivering the vehicle to a workshop. Profiles
can be taken to another vehicle equipped with
the Personal Profile function.

Importingprofiles
Profiles exported via BMW Online can also be imported via BMW Online.
Profiles stored on a USB storage device can be

the country version, various settings for openj ing and closing are possible.
These settings are stored for the driver profile,
refer to page 45, currently used.
Unlocking

exterior mirrors and steering wheel resume
their last set positions.
Alarmsystem
Generalinformation When the vehicle is locked, the vehicle alarm
system reacts to the following changes:
'yUnauthorized opening of a door, the hood
or the tailgate.'yMovements in the car's interior.'yChanges in the vehicle tilt, e. g., during atj tempts at stealing a wheel or when towing
the vehicle.'yDisconnected battery voltage.'yImproper use of the socket for Onboard Dij
agnosis.
The alarm system signals these changes visuj
ally and acoustically:
'yAcoustic alarm.
Depending on local regulations, the acousj
tic alarm may be suppressed.'yBy switching on the hazard warning sysj tem.'yBy flashing the daytime running lights.
Switchingonandoff
When you lock and unlock the vehicle with the
remote control or with Comfort Access, the alarm system is switched on and off at thesame time.
Openingthedoorswiththealarmsystemswitchedon
The alarm system is triggered when a door is
opened if the door was unlocked using the integrated key in the door lock.
Switching off the alarm, refer to page 49.
Openingthetailgatewiththealarm
systemswitchedon
The tailgate can be opened even when the
alarm system is switched on.
After the tailgate is closed, it is locked and
monitored again provided the doors are
locked. The hazard warning system flashes
once.
Panicmode You can trigger the alarm system if you findyourself in a dangerous situation.
'yPress button on the remote conj
trol and hold for at least 3 secj
onds.'yBriefly press the button on the remote conj
trol three times in succession.
To switch off the alarm: press any button.

Tiltalarmsensor The tilt of the vehicle is monitored.
The alarm system responds in situations such
as attempts to steal a wheel or when the vehij
cle is towed.
Interiormotionsensor
The windows and the glass sunroof must be
closed for the system to function properly.
Avoidingunintentionalalarms
Generalinformation
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion senj
sor can trigger an alarm, although no unauthorj ized action occurred.
Possible situations for an unwanted alarm:'yIn automatic vehicle washes.'yIn duplex garages.'yDuring transport on trains carrying vehij
cles, at sea or on a trailer.'yWith animals in the vehicle.
The tilt alarm sensor and the interior motion sensor can be switched off in such situations.

Press the remote control button againwithin 10 seconds as soon as the vehicle
is locked.
The indicator lamp lights up for approx. 2 secj
onds and then continues to flash.
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion senj
sor are turned off until the vehicle is locked
again.
