Objects whose form is similar to people with
sufficient heat radiation are detected.
In addition, the system also detects animalsabove a certain minimum size, for example,
deer.

330 ft/100 m'yDetection of large animals: up to approx.
490 ft/150 m'yDetection of medium animals: up to apj prox. 230 ft/70 m
Environmental influences can limit the availaj
bility of object detection.
If the vehicle systems detect that the vehicle is located in a residential area, the animal detecj
tion is temporarily switched off.

With animal warnings, no distinction is made
between the central or expanded area.
The entire area moves along with the vehicle in
the direction of the steering angle and changes
with the vehicle speed. As the vehicle speed
increases, the area becomes, for instance lonjger and wider.

Systemlimits
Basiclimits The system may not be fully functional in the
following situations:'yOn steep hills, in steep depressions or in
tight curves.'yIf the camera is soiled or damaged.'yIn heavy fog, rain or snowfall.'yAt very high external temperatures.
Limitsofpedestrianandanimal
detection
In some situations, it may occur that pedesj
trians are detected as animals or animals as
pedestrians.
Small animals are not detected by the object
detection function, even if they are clearly visij ble in the image.
Limited detection, for example in the following
circumstances:
'yPeople or animals who are fully or partially covered, especially when their heads are
covered.'yPeople who are not in an upright position,
for example, lying down.'yCyclists on unconventional bicycles (for example, recumbent bicycles).'yAfter physical damage to the system, forexample, after an accident.

played on the rear screen.
Lanedeparturewarning Concept
Starting at a specific speed, this system alerts you when the vehicle on streets with lanemarkings is about to leave the lane. This
speed, depending on the country version, is
between 35 mph/55 km/h and
45 mph/70 km/h.
The steering wheel begins vibrating gently in
the event of warnings. The time of the warning
may vary depending on the current driving sitj
uation.
The system does not provide a warning if the
turn signal is set before leaving the lane.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release the driver
from the personal responsibility to correctly assess route and traffic situation. There is a
risk of an accident. Adjust the driving style to
the traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively intervene in the respective situations. In the event of a warning, do not unnecessarilyjerk the steering wheel.'

Issuedwarning
If you leave the lane and if a lane marking has
been detected, the steering wheel begins vij
brating.
If the turn signal is set before changing the
lane, a warning is not issued.
Endofwarning
The warning is canceled in the following situaj tions:
'yAutomatically after approx. 3 seconds.'yWhen returning to your own lane.'yWhen braking hard.'yWhen using the turn signal.

Safetyinformation WARNING
The system can react incorrectly or not
at all due to the system limits. There is a risk of
accidents or risk of property damage. Observe the information regarding the system limits
and actively intervene, if needed.'

Functionallimitations
The system may not be fully functional in the
following situations:'yIn heavy fog, rain or snowfall.'yIn the event of missing, worn, poorly visij
ble, merging, diverging, or multiple lane markings such as in construction areas.'yWhen lane markings are covered in snow,
ice, dirt or water.'yIn tight curves or on narrow lanes.'yWhen the lane markings are covered by
objects.'yWhen driving very close to the vehicle in
front of you.'yWhen driving toward bright lights.'yWhen the windshield in front of the interior
mirror is fogged over, dirty or covered with stickers, etc.'yDuring calibration of the camera immedijately after vehicle delivery.
ActiveBlindSpotDetection
Theconcept
Two radar sensors in the rear bumper monitor
the area behind and next to the vehicle at
speeds above approx. 30 mph/50 km/h.
The system indicates whether there are vehij
cles in the blind spot, arrow 1, or approaching from behind on the adjacent lane, arrow 2.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing is dimj med.
Before you change lanes after setting the turn
signal, the system issues a warning in the sitj
uations described above.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing flashes and the steering wheel vibrates.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess visij bility and traffic situation. There is a risk of anaccident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic
conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively intervene in the respective situations.'

Prewarning
The dimmed lamp in the exterior mirror housj ing indicates when there are vehicles in the
blind spot or approaching from behind.
Acutewarning If the turn signal is set while a vehicle is in the
critical zone, the steering wheel vibrates briefly
and the lamp in the exterior mirror housing
flashes brightly.
The warning stops when the turn signal is
switched off, or the other vehicle leaves the
critical zone.
Briefflashing A brief flashing of the lamp during vehicle unj
locking serves as system self-test.

Brakeforcedisplay
Concept
Additional brake lamps indicate emergency
braking to the traffic behind. This can reduce
the risk of a rear-end collision.
Generalinformation'yDuring normal brake application, the botjtom brake lights light up.'yDuring heavy brake application, the topbrake lights additionally light up.
ActiveProtection
Generalinformation
The Active Protection safety package consists
of systems that are independent of each other:
'yAttentiveness assistant.'yPreCrash.'yPostCrash.
Attentivenessassistant
Concept
The system can detect decreasing alertness or
fatigue of the driver during long, monotonous trips, e.g., on highways. In this situation, it is
recommended that the driver takes a break.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess
one's physical state. An increasing lack of
alertness or fatigue may not be detected or not be detected in time. There is a risk of an accijdent. Make sure that the driver is rested and
alert. Adjust the driving style to the traffic conj
ditions.'

'yWhen the vehicle speed is mainly belowabout 43 mph/70 km/h.'yWith a sporty driving style, such as duringrapid acceleration or when cornering fast.'yIn active driving situations, such as when
changing lanes frequently.'yWhen the road surface is poor.'yIn the event of strong side winds.
The system is reset approx. 45 minutes after
parking the vehicle, e.g., in the case of a break during longer trips on highways.
PreCrash
Theconcept
With this system critical driving situations that
might result in an accident can be detected
above a speed of approx. 20 mph/30 km/h. In these situations, preventive measures are auj
tomatically taken to minimize the risk of an acj
cident as much as possible.
Critical driving situations may include:
'yEmergency stop.'ySevere understeering.'ySevere oversteering.
If the vehicle includes the front-end collision warning or front-end collision warning with
braking feature, impending collisions with vehij cles driving ahead or stopped in front of you
can also be detected within the system's
range.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility. Due to the system limj its, critical situation could not be detected relij
ably or in time. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic condijtions. Watch traffic closely and actively interjvene in the respective situations.'
