PDCParkDistanceControl
Concept
PDC is a support when parking. When you
slowly approach an object in the rear - or also
in the front of the vehicle if the feature is availaj ble - then the object is reported through:'ySignal tones.'yVisual display.
Generalinformation
The ultrasound sensors for measuring the disj
tances are located in the bumpers.
The maneuvering range, depending on the obj
stacle and environmental conditions, is approx.
6 ft/2 m.
An acoustic warning is first given in the followj ing situations:
'yBy the front sensors and the two rear corj
ner sensors at approx. 24 in/60 cm from
the object.'yBy the rear middle sensors at a distance to
the object of approx. 5 ft/1.50 m.'yWhen a collision is imminent.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust drivingstyle to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closelyand actively intervene where appropriate.'

Switchingon/off
Switchingonautomatically The system switches on automatically in thefollowing situations:'yIf selector lever position R is engagedwhen the engine is running.
The rearview camera also switches on.'yIf equipped with front PDC: when obstaj
cles are detected behind or in front of the vehicle by PDC and the speed is slower
than approx. 2.5 mph/4 km/h.
You may switch off automatic activation when obstacles are detected. Using iDrive:
1."Settings"2."Parking"3.Select setting.
The setting is stored for the driver profile
currently used.
If necessary, switch off automatic PDC activaj tion on obstacle detection, for instance in vehij
cle washes, to reduce false alarms.
Automaticdeactivationduringforward
travel
The system switches off when a certain driving
distance or speed is exceeded.
Switch the system back on, if needed.

'yOn: the LED lights up.'yOff: the LED goes out.
The rearview camera image is displayed if the
reverse gear is engaged when pressing the
park assistance button.
WARNING
Signaltones An intermittent tone indicates when the vehij
cle is approaching an object. E.g., if an object
is detected to the left rear of the vehicle, a sigj nal tone sounds from the left rear speaker.
The shorter the distance to the object, theshorter the intervals.
If the distance to a detected object is less than
approx. 10 inches/25 cm, a continuous tone is sounded.
With front PDC: if objects are simultaneously
located both in front of and behind the vehicle, an alternating continuous signal is sounded.
The signal tone is switched off, when selector
lever position P is engaged on vehicles with Steptronic transmission.
Volume The ratio of the PDC signal tone volume to theentertainment volume can be adjusted.
Using iDrive:1."Multimedia", "Radio" or "Settings"2."Tone"3."Volume settings"4."PDC"5.Turn the Controller until the desired setj ting is selected.6.Press the Controller.
Settings are stored for the profile currentlyused.
Visualwarning
The approach of the vehicle to an object can
be shown on the Control Display. Objects that
are farther away are already displayed on the
Control Display before a signal sounds.
A display appears as soon as Park Distance
Control (PDC) is activated.

Pathway lines help you to estimate the space
required when parking and maneuvering on level roads.
Pathway lines depend on the current steering angle and are continuously adjusted to the
steering wheel movements.
Turningradiuslines
Turning radius lines can only be superimposed
on the rearview camera image together with pathway lines.
Turning radius lines show the course of the
smallest possible turning radius on a level road.
Only one turning radius line is displayed after
the steering wheel is turned past a certain anj
gle.
Obstaclemarking
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, obstaj
cles behind the vehicle are detected by the
PDC Park Distance Control sensors and the
rearview camera.

Detectionofobjects
Very low obstacles as well as high, protruding objects such as ledges may not be detected by
the system.
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, some
assistance functions also consider data from
PDC Park Distance Control.
Follow the notes in the PDC Park Distance
Control chapter.
The objects displayed on the Control Display may be closer than they appear. Do not estij
mate the distance from the objects on the disj

TopView
Concept
Top View provides assistance in parking and
maneuvering. The area around the vehicle is
shown on the Control Display.
Generalinformation
The image is captured by two cameras integrated in the exterior mirrors, by the rearj
view camera and a camera on the front of the vehicle.
The range is no more than approx. 6.5 ft/2 m to
the side, front and rear.
Obstacles within this range are thus displayed early on the Control Display.

SideView Concept
Side View provides an early look at cross trafficat blind driveways and intersections. Road
users concealed by obstacles to the left and right of the vehicle can only be detected relaj

the viewing, each camera, front and rear on the
vehicle, detects the traffic area on the side.
Which camera is active is shown on the top

Warningofcrossingtraffic
Concept
When an object approaching from the side is
detected by the front or rear camera, this is dej
picted by a symbol in the Side View display.
Requirements
'ySide View switched on.'yYour vehicle moves no faster than walking speed.'yTo detect approaching objects, sufficient
brightness, e.g., daylight is necessary.
Display
The yellow symbol is displayed if anapproaching vehicle is detected by thecamera.
A gray symbol is displayed if crossing
traffic cannot be detected.
Systemlimits
In the following situations, the warning about crossing traffic may be limited:
'yIn poor lighting or visibility conditions.'yIf the camera is soiled or covered.
Systemlimits
The objects displayed on the Control Display
under certain circumstances are closer than
they appear. Therefore, do not estimate the distance from the objects on the display.
The viewing angle is approx. 180p.
Parkingassistant
Concept
This system assists the driver in parking paraljlel to the road.
Generalinformation
Parking assistant handling is divided into three
steps:
'ySwitching on and activating.'yParking space search.'yParking.
Ultrasound sensors measure parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
The parking assistant calculates the best posj
sible parking line and during the parking procej
dure takes control of steering, the acceleration and braking, and if needed, changes the gears.Press and hold the park assistance button forthe duration of the parking procedure.
System status and instructions on required acj
