DrivingcomfortVehicleequipment
This chapter describes all standard, national
and special equipment provided in the model
series. Equipment not available in the vehicle is
therefore also described, for example the sej lected special equipment or country variant. This also applies to safety-relevant functions
and systems. Comply with the relevant laws and regulations when using the corresponding
functions and systems.
CruiseControl
Principle This system allows a desired speed to be set
using the buttons on the steering wheel. The desired speed is maintained by the system. Todo this, the system automatically accelerates
and brakes as required.
General Characteristics of Cruise Control may change
in certain areas depending on vehicle setting.
Safetyinstructions WARNING
The system does not release you from
your personal responsibility to estimate the
traffic situation. Due to limits of the system, it
cannot respond independently in a reasonable
way in all traffic conditions. Danger of accij
dents. Adapt driving style to the traffic condij
tions. Observe the traffic situation and interj vene actively if the situation warrants it.'

ResumingCruiseControl
General If Cruise Control is interrupted, it can be rejsumed by calling up the saved speed.
Before calling up the saved speed, make sure
that the difference between the current speed and the saved speed is not excessively large.
Otherwise, there may be inadvertent braking or
acceleration.
The saved speed value is deleted and can no longer be called up in the following instances:'yWhen the system is switched off.'yWhen the ignition is switched off.

ParkDistanceControlPDC PrinciplePDC supports you with parking. Slowly apj
proaching an object in behind, or with front PDC, in front of, your vehicle is signalled by
means of:'yAcoustic signals.'yVisual display.
General
The ultrasonic sensors for measuring the disjtances are located in the bumpers.
The range is approximately 2 m, 6 ft depending
on obstacle and environment.
An acoustic warning is only issued in the
following situations:
'yAt the front sensors and at the two corner sensors at the rear at approximately 60 cm,
24 in distance from the object.Seite 153DrivingcomfortControls153

Warning
Acousticsignals An intermittent sound indicates that the vehijcle is approaching an object. For instance, if an
object is identified to the rear left of the vehij
cle, the acoustic signal sounds from the rear
left loudspeaker.
The shorter the distance to an object bej
comes, the shorter the intervals become.
If the distance to a detected object is less than
approximately 25 cm, 10 in, a continuous tone sounds.
With front PDC: if there are simultaneously obj
jects in front of and behind the vehicle, an alj
ternating continuous tone sounds.
Volumecontrol It is possible to set the ratio between the volj
ume of the PDC acoustic signal and the volj
ume of the playback.

file.
Visualwarning
When the vehicle is approaching an object it
will be shown on the Control Display. Objects that are further away are already displayedthere before an acoustic signal is given.
A display is superimposed as soon as PDC is
activated.
Recording range of sensors is shown in colj ours green, yellow and red.
If the reversing camera image is displayed, it is
possible to change over to PDC:

Falsealarms
Under the following conditions, the system can
issue a warning although there is no obstacle
in the detection range:
'yIn heavy rain.'yIf the sensors are very dirty or covered with
ice.'yIf the sensors are covered with snow.'yOn rough road surfaces.'yOn uneven ground, for example speed
bumps.'yIn large, rectangular buildings with smooth
walls, for example underground car parks.'yIn washing bays and car washes.'yDue to dense exhaust gases.'yIf the cover of the trailer tow hitch is incorj
rectly seated.'yDue to other ultrasonic sources, for examj
ple sweeping machines, steam-jet cleaners
or neon lights. To reduce false alarms, switch off automatic activation of PDC when obstacles are detected
if necessary, for example in automatic car washes.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is shown.
The recording area of the sensors is shown hatched on the Control Display.
PDC has failed. Have the system checked by a
Service Partner of the manufacturer or another
qualified Service Partner or a specialist workj
shop.
Surroundview
Principle Surround view contains various camera assisj
tance systems, providing support when parkj
ing, manoeuvring and exits and junctions with
poor visibility.'yRear-view camera, see page 156.'yTop view, see page 160.'ySide view, see page 162.
Rear-viewcamera
Principle The rear-view camera supports when reversjing into a parking space or manoeuvring. To achieve this, the area behind the vehicle is disjplayed on the Control Display.

Drivinglanelines
Driving lane lines can appear in the image from
the rear-view camera.
The driving lane lines help to estimate the rej quired space when parking and manoeuvringon a level road surface.
The driving lane lines are dependent on the
current steering angle and are continuously
adapted to steering wheel movements.
Turningcirclelines
The turning circle lines can only be shown in the image from the rear-view camera togetherwith driving lane lines.
The turning circle lines show the course of the smallest possible turning circle on a level road
surface.
When the steering wheel is turned to a certain
extent, only a turning circle line is shown.
Obstaclemarking
Obstacles behind the vehicle are detected,
with the corresponding equipment, by the PDC sensors and the rear-view camera.
With the corresponding equipment, obstacle
markings can be shown in the image from the rear-view camera.
The colour incrementation corresponds to the
markings of PDC.
Gesturetotrailertowhitch
To facilitate connecting up a trailer, the picture
area around the trailer tow hitch can be zoomed.
