BMWX5MandBMWX6MtechnologyVehicleequipment
This chapter describes all standard, national
and special equipment provided in the model
series. Equipment not available in the vehicle is
therefore also described, for example the sej lected special equipment or country variant. This also applies to safety-relevant functions
and systems. Comply with the relevant laws and regulations when using the corresponding
functions and systems.
V8highperformanceengine General
The V8 high power engine generates a maxij
mum power of 423 kW and a maximum torque
of 750 Nm from 4.4 litres of capacity. With its
spontaneous responsiveness, a very broad usable engine speed range is produced. Themaximum engine speed is electronically regujlated at 6800 rpm. Due to the powerful enginedynamics, the maximum engine speed is limijted when the vehicle is stationary.
Drivinghot During the engine warm-up phase, the V8 highperformance engine runs slightly more roughly
due to the emission control.
When the engine is cold, the exhaust has a
slightly metallic undertone, depending on the
system.
Other information for hot driving: engine speed counter, see page 96, and engine oil temperaj
ture, see page 96.
Mcompoundbrakes The high performance brake system has ventij
lated compound brake discs.Depending on design requirements, function
noises may occur when braking. However, this has no effect on the performance, operational
safety and stability of the brakes.
Brakingcorrectly
To keep the brake system in optimum condij tion, it is desirable to load them at regular interj
vals depending on the nature of the vehicle.
Drivetrain
The xDrive four-wheel drive system permaj
nently and variably distributes torque between the front and rear axles. In this vehicle, the
combination of xDrive and Dynamic Performj ance Control provides a high level of drivingdynamics which is typical of BMW M.
Activating M Dynamic mode make it possibleto increase dynamics and steering precision
even more at all speeds.
Drivingonaracingtrack
The higher mechanical and thermal loads inj
volved in driving on racing tracks lead to inj creased wear. This wear is not covered by thewarranty. The vehicle is not conceived for usein motor sports competitions.
Before driving on a racing track, have the vehij
cle checked at a Service Partner of the manuj
facturer or another qualified Service Partner or
a specialist workshop.
The standard brake pads and the wear disj
plays are not designed for racing track operaj
tion.
Further information and advice can be obj tained from a Service Partner of the manufacj
turer or another qualified Service Partner or a
specialist workshop.Seite 196DrivinghintsBMWX5MandBMWX6Mtechnology196

Runningin
General Moving parts must adapt to one another.
The following notes help to achieve maximum
lifetime and efficiency of the vehicle.
Do not use Launch Control when running in.
Safetynote WARNING
New parts and components can cause
safety and Driver Assistance Systems to rej spond with a delay. Danger of accidents. After
new parts have been installed, or if the vehicle is new, drive moderately and intervene at anearly stage if necessary. Comply with running-in procedures for the corresponding parts and
components.'

Closingthetailgate
Safetynote WARNING
An open tailgate projects beyond the vej
hicle, and in the event of an accident, braking or avoidance manoeuvres, it can endanger vejhicle occupants and other road users, or damj
age the vehicle. There is also the danger of exj
haust fumes entering the interior of the
vehicle. Danger of injury or damage to propj
erty. Do not drive with the tailgate open.'

This situation, known as aquaplaning, means
that the tyre can actually lose contact comj
pletely with the road surface and the vehicle
can neither be steered nor the brakes properly
applied.
Wading
General Comply with the following when drivingthrough water:
With auxiliary heating:'yOnly drive through calm water.'yOnly drive through water up to a depth of
max. 25 cm, approximately 9.8 in.'yDrive through water at no faster than
5 km/h, approximately 3 mph.
Without auxiliary heating:
'yOnly drive through calm water.'yOnly drive through water up to a depth of
max. 45 cm, approximately 17.6 in.'yDrive through water at no faster than
5 km/h, approximately 3 mph.
Safetynote
NOTE
Driving through excessively deep water
too fast can result in water entering the engine compartment, electrical system or transmisjsion. Danger of damage to property. When
driving through water, do not exceed the maxij mum specified water depth and maximum
fording speed.'

SafetyinstructionsWARNING
Even slight, continuous pressure on the
brake pedal can cause overheating, brake pad
wear or even brake system failure. Danger of
accidents. Avoid excessive loads on the
brake.'
