EngineoilVehicleequipment
This chapter describes all standard, national
and special equipment provided in the model
series. Equipment not available in the vehicle is
therefore also described, for example the sej lected special equipment or country variant. This also applies to safety-relevant functions
and systems. Comply with the relevant laws and regulations when using the corresponding
functions and systems.
General
The engine oil consumption depends on the
driving style and operating conditions.
Engine oil consumption can be increased, for
example, in the following situations:'yDynamic driving style.'yRunning in the engine.'yEngine idling.'yUse of engine oil grades categorised as
unsuitable.
Therefore check the engine oil level regularly each time you fill up with fuel.
With dynamic driving, for example, rapid corj nering, the system cannot make any oil measj
urement. With this driving mode, the engine oil
is measured using a detailed measurement, see page 233.
The vehicle has electronic oil measurement.
Electronic oil measurement has two measurej
ment principles:
'yStatus display.'yDetailed measurement.Electronicoilmeasurement
Statusdisplay
Principle
The engine oil level is electronically monitored
during the journey and shown on the Control
Display.
If the engine oil level reaches the minimum, a Check Control message is shown.
Functionalrequirements
A current measurement is available after apj
proximately 30 minutes of the journey. With a shorter journey, the status of the last suffijciently long journey is shown.
When frequently making short trips, regularly
take a detailed measurement.

The engine oil level is displayed.
Messagesfortheengineoillevel
Principle
Different messages are shown on the display, depending on the engine oil level. Follow these
messages.
If there is too little engine oil, within the next
200 km, approximately 120 miles top up.
Ensure not to top up with too much engine oil.

General
The vehicle has two coolant tanks located in
the engine compartment.
To guarantee operational safety of the vehicle,
always check the coolant levels of both coolant tanks.
Not all commercially available additives are suitable for the vehicle. Information regarding suitable additives is available from a ServicePartner of the manufacturer or another qualijfied Service Partner or a specialist workshop.
Safetyinstructions WARNING

BMWMaintenanceSystemThe maintenance system points out the necj
essary maintenance measures, thus providing
support in maintaining the road and operaj
tional safety of the vehicle.
Scopes and intervals may vary depending on
country variant. Replacement work, spare
parts, operating materials and wear material
are calculated separately. Additional informaj
tion is available from a Service Partner of the
manufacturer or another qualified Service Partj
ner or a specialist workshop.
ConditionBasedService,
CBS
Principle Sensors and advanced algorithms monitor the
conditions in which the vehicle is used. CBS
uses this information to determine the maintej nance requirement.
The system thus enables adaptation of the
scope of maintenance to the individual usage profile.General
Information on service requirements, seepage 99, can be displayed at the Control Disj
play.
Servicedataintheremotecontrol Information about the maintenance requirejment is continuously stored in the remote conj
trol. The Service Partner can read out this data and suggest a maintenance scope for your vejhicle.
This is why you should hand over the remote control that was last used for driving to your
service advisor with the vehicle.
Periodsoutofuse
Immobilisation periods with the vehicle battery disconnected are not taken into account.
Updating the time-dependent maintenance
scope such as brake fluid and any engine oil
and microfilter or activated carbon filter can be
done by a Service Partner of the manufacturer
or another qualified Service Partner or a spej
cialist workshop.

in relation to his/her time as the vehicle owner.
In that case, no entry is made in the electronic service history of the vehicle.
Displays
The entered maintenance activities can be disj played using the service history on the Control
