The information in this chapter helps you to

OpeningandclosingVehicleequipment
This chapter describes all standard, national
and special equipment provided in the model
series. Equipment not available in the vehicle is
therefore also described, for example the sej lected special equipment or country variant.This also applies to safety-relevant functions
and systems. Comply with the relevant laws and regulations when using the corresponding
functions and systems.
Remotecontrol General
The delivery specification includes two remote
controls with integrated keys.
Every remote control contains a replaceable
battery. Replacing the battery, see page 34.
The functions of buttons may be set dependj
ing on equipment and country variant. Setj
tings, see page 45.
For each remote control, personal settings are
saved in the vehicle. Personal profile, see
page 43.
Further information on servicing is also saved
in the remote controls Service data in the rej
mote control, see page 238
Safetyinstructions WARNING
Persons remaining in the vehicle or pets
left inside can lock the doors from the inside
and lock themselves in. In this case, the vehicle cannot be opened from the outside. Danger of
injury. Carry the remote control with you so
that you can open the vehicle from the outj
side.'

UnlockingPress the button on the remote conjtrol.
Depending on the settings, see page 45, the
following entrances are unlocked.'yThe driver door and the fuel filler flap.
Press the button on the remote control
again to unlock the other vehicle entranj ces.'yAll doors, the tailgate and the fuel filler flap.
The following functions are also carried out:
'yThe settings saved in the driver profile, seepage 43, are applied again.'yThe interior light and courtesy light are
switched on. This function is not available
if the interior light was switched off manj ually.'yThe welcome light is switched on if this
function was activated.'yExterior mirrors folded in using comfort
closing are folded out.'yWith anti-theft system: The anti-theft sysj tem is switched off.'yThe alarm system, see page 46, is
switched off.
The light functions might be dependent on the ambient brightness.
Comfortopening Keep the button on the remote control
pressed after unlocking.
The windows and Glass Roof are opened for as
long as the button on the remote control is
pressed.
Locking
1.Close the driver's door.2.Press the button on the remote conj
trol.'yAll doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap are locked.'yWith anti-theft system: The anti-theft sysjtem is switched on. This prevents the
doors from being unlocked using the lockj
ing buttons or the door openers.'yThe alarm system, see page 46, is
switched on.
If vehicle horn sounds twice when locking, this means engine or ignition is still switched on. In this case, switch off engine or ignition using
start/stop button.
Comfortclosing
Safetynote WARNING
Body parts can be trapped during comj
fort closing. Danger of injury. During comfort
closing, make sure that the area of movement is free.'

After locking, wait 10 seconds before pressingthe button again.
Tailgate
General To prevent the remote control from beinglocked in, do not place the remote control in
the boot.
Depending on the equipment and country verj
sion it can be set whether the doors are also
unlocked when unlocking with the remote conj
trol. Adjust the settings, see page 45.
In some equipment versions, doors are also
unlocked if appropriate

placed by a Service Partner of the manufacj turer or another qualified Service Partner or a
specialist workshop.
Malfunction
General
A Check Control message is shown.
Detection of the remote control by the vehicle
may be disrupted by the following circumstanj ces, amongst others:'yThe battery of the remote control is disjcharged. Replacing the battery, see
page 34.'yDisruption of the radio link by transmission
masts or other equipment transmitting
powerful signals.'yShielding of the remote control by metallic
objects.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with metallic objects.'yDisruption of the radio link by mobile telejphones or other electronic devices in the
immediate vicinity of the mobile phone.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with electronic devices.'yInterference in radio transmission due to a
charging procedure in mobile devices, for
example charging a mobile telephone.'yThe remote control is located in the immej
diate vicinity of the wireless charging craj
dle.Place the remote control somewhere else.
If there is a malfunction, the vehicle can be unj
locked and locked from the outside with the
integrated key, see page 35.
Startingtheengineintheeventof
emergencydetectionoftheremote
control
1.Hold the back of the remote control against
the mark on the steering column.2.Start the engine within 10 seconds.
If the remote control is not detected, change
the position of the remote control slightly and repeat the procedure.
Integratedkey General
With the integrated key, the driver's door can
be unlocked and locked without remote conj trol.
Use the integrated key to operate the key
switch for front passenger airbags, see
page 118.
Safetyinstructions WARNING
If the vehicle is locked from the outside, it
cannot be unlocked from the inside in some
country versions.

If persons spend a longer period in the vehicleand are thus exposed to extreme temperajtures, there is a risk of injury or danger to life.

ComfortAccess
Principle
Access to the vehicle is possible without actij
vating the remote control.
It is sufficient to have the remote control with
you, for example in a trouser pocket.
The vehicle automatically recognises the rej
mote control when it is in the immediate vicinj ity or the interior of the vehicle.
General Comfort Access supports the following funcj
tions:
'yUnlocking and locking the vehicle.'yComfort closing.'yOpening the tailgate.'yBMW X6 M: Open/close tailgate with a contactless method.
Functionalrequirements
'yTo lock, the remote control must be locaj
ted outside the vehicle in the area of the doors.'yApproximately 2 seconds need to elapsebefore the vehicle can be unlocked and
locked again.Unlocking
Completely grip handle of a vehicle door.
This corresponds to pressing the

on the remote control.
Locking
Use your finger to touch the area on the door
handle of a vehicle door for approximately 1 second, without gripping door handle.

Closing
Use your finger to touch area on door handle ofa vehicle door and keep your finger there withjout gripping door handle.
Corresponds to pressing and holding the butj
ton
on the remote control.
In addition to locking, windows and Glass Roof
are closed and exterior mirrors are folded in.
Openingthetailgate
General
To prevent the remote control from being locked in, do not place the remote control in the boot.
If the remote control is within the sensor range, the tailgate can be accidentally operated by an unintentional or supposedly recognised foot
movement.
The sensor range extends to approximately
1.50 m, 5 ft behind the rear area.
If the tailgate is opened using Comfort Access,
locked doors are not unlocked.

When opening and closing, make sure that the area of movement of the tailgate is free.'

Principle The tailgate can be opened and closed conj
tactlessly if you carry the remote control. Two
sensors detect a foot movement forwards in
the central rear area and the tailgate is opened or closed.
General
To prevent the remote control from being locked in, do not place the remote control in
the boot.
If the remote control is within the sensor range, the tailgate can be accidentally opened or closed by an unintentional or supposedly recj
ognized foot movement.
The sensor range extends to approximately
1.50 m, 5 ft behind the rear area.
If the tailgate is opened with a contactless
method, locked doors are not unlocked.
Safetyinstructions WARNING
During operation without contact, there
is a risk of touching vehicle parts, for example the hot exhaust system. Danger of injury. Makesure you are standing securely when you perjform the foot movement, and do not touch thevehicle.'
