Cancellation
of
the
opening
operation
The opening procedure is interrupted in the following situations:

trol.'yBy pressing or pulling the button in the
driver's door.Closing
Operating
requirementsThe lower tailgate must be closed, otherwise a Check Control message is output.
From
outside'yPress the button on the outside of the tailj
gate.'yKeep button pressed on remote control until tailgate has closed.
From
inside
Pull and hold pulled the button in the
driver's door.
For this function, the remote control must be in
the passenger compartment.
Using
the
inside
of
the

The vehicle is locked after the tailgate has been closed. To do this, the driver's door
must be closed and the remote control
must be outside the vehicle in the vicinity
of the tailgate.

Opening
Pull the lever and swivel the tailgate down.
The open tailgate can withstand a load of up to 250 kg, 550 lb.
Closing Swivel the tailgate up and press it closed.
Malfunction
Safety
instructions BMW X5 M:

Risk of trapping when folding down the
rear backrest. Danger of injury or damage to
property. Before folding down, make sure that
the movement area of the rear backrest and
the head restraint is clear.'

With an electrical fault.1.Fold the rear-seat backrest forward.2.In the lower tailgate, undo the cover by means of the on-board toolkit or a suitable
object and remove.3.Pull the loop in the direction of the interior.
The tailgate is unlocked.4.Open the upper tailgate, press the loop back in.5.Put the cover in and close.
The tailgate is locked again as soon as it is
closed.
Manual
operation Operate the unlocked tailgate manually slowly
and without a sudden movement.
Only light pressure is required to fully close the
tailgate. The actual closing operation is autoj
matic.

Operating the doors can lead to parts of

When opening and closing, make sure that the area of movement of the doors is free.'

This uniqueness is ensured under the

Settings for the following systems and funcjtions are saved in the active profile. The extent
of settings that can be saved depends on the
country and equipment.

Profile
management
Calling
up
profiles Independently of the remote control that is
used, another profile can be called up. This enj
ables the personal vehicle settings to be called
up, even if the vehicle was not unlocked with
the driver's own remote control.

Following functions are carried out:
'yThe settings saved in the called-up profile are made automatically.'yThe profile called up is assigned to the rej
mote control currently used.'yIf the profile has already been allocated to
another remote control, this profile applies to both remote controls.
Using
a
guest
profile
With the guest profile, individual settings canbe made that are not saved in any of the three
personal profiles.

The guest profile cannot be renamed. It is not allocated to the current remote control.
Renaming
profiles
To avoid mixing up the profiles, each profile can be given a personal name.

Resetting
profiles The settings of the profile currently in use are
reset to factory settings.

Exporting
profilesMost settings of the profile currently in use canbe exported.
Exporting can be useful for backing up and
calling up personal settings, for example bej fore taking the vehicle into a workshop. The
saved profiles can be taken to another vehicle with the Personal Profile function.

Importing
profiles
Profiles exported via BMW Online can be imj ported via BMW Online.
Profiles saved on a USB medium can be imj

limits
A unique assignment of remote control and
driver is not always possible in the following
cases, for example.
'yThe front passenger unlocks the vehicle
with their remote control, but another perj
son drives.'yThe driver unlocks the vehicle using Comj
fort Access and is carrying a number of rej
mote controls.'yIf there is a change of driver without the vej
hicle being locked and unlocked.'yIf a number of remote controls are located
in the area outside of the vehicle.

Various settings are possible for opening and closing, depending on the equipment and
country variant.
These settings are is saved for the currently
used driver profile, see page 43.
Unlocking

When the vehicle is unlocked, the last set posij
tions of the driver's seat, exterior mirrors and
steering wheel are set.
Alarm
system General The alarm system responds to the followingchanges when the vehicle is locked:
'yUnauthorised opening of a door, the bonj net or the tailgate.'yThere are movements inside the vehicle.'yThe vehicle's incline changes, for instance
if an attempt is made to jack it up and steal
the wheels or to raise it prior to towing away.'yThere is an interruption in the power supj
ply from the battery.'yImproper use of the socket for on-board dij agnosis.
The alarm system indicates these changes visj
ually and audibly:
'yAudible alarm.
Depending on local regulations, the acousj
tic alarm may be suppressed.'ySwitching on the hazard warning lights.
Switching
on
and
off
At the same time as unlocking and locking the
vehicle by remote control or using the Comfort Access the alarm system is switched on andoff.

Opening
doors
when
the
alarm
systemis
switched
on
The alarm system is triggered on opening a
door if the door has been unlocked using the integrated key in the door lock.
Switch off the alarm, see page 48.
Opening
the
tailgate
with
alarm
system
switched
on
The tailgate can be opened even with the
alarm system switched on.
On closing the tailgate, it is locked again and monitored, as long as the doors are locked.
The hazard warning lights flash once.
Indicator
lamp
on
the
rear-view
mirror'yIndicator lamp flashes every 2 seconds:
The alarm system is switched on.'yIndicator lamp flashes for approximately
10 seconds before it flashes every 2 secj onds:
Interior movement detector and tilt alarm
sensor are not active because doors, bonj
net or tailgate are not closed correctly.
Correctly closed access points are sej
cured.
If the access points that are still open are closed then the interior protection and tilt
alarm sensor are switched on.'yThe indicator lamp no longer illuminates after the vehicle has been unlocked:
No attempt has been made to tamper with
the vehicle.'yThe indicator lamp flashes after unlocking
until the ignition is switched on, but for no longer than approximately five minutes:
The alarm has been triggered.
Tilt
alarm
sensor The incline of the vehicle is monitored.
Alarm system responds, for example, when
there is an attempt to steal a wheel or when
towing away.
Interior
movement
detector
To ensure perfect functioning, the windows
and Glass Roof must be closed.
Avoiding
false
alarms
General
The tilt alarm sensor and the interior protection
may trigger an alarm without any unauthorised
activity taking place.
Possible situations for an unwanted alarm:
'yIn washing bays or car washes.'yIn two-level garages.'yDuring transport via motorail, car ferry or trailer.'yWhen there are animals in the vehicle.
The tilt alarm sensor and interior protection
can be switched off for such situations.
Switching
off
the
tilt
alarm
sensor
and
interior
movement
detector
Press the button on the remote control
again within 10 seconds, as soon as the
vehicle is locked.
The indicator lamp illuminates for approxij
mately 2 seconds and then flashes again.
The tilt alarm sensor and the interior movejment detector are switched off until the nexttime the vehicle is locked.

windows
Safety

Operating the windows can lead to parts
of the body or objects becoming trapped. Danj
ger of injury or damage to property. When
opening and closing, make sure that the area
of movement of the windows is free.'

ignition Windows can still be operated:'yFor some time with radio ready state

Anti-trap
mechanism
General If the closing power exceeds a certain value onclosing a window, the closing operation is injterrupted.
The window is opened slightly.
Safety
note WARNING
Accessories on the windows, for examj
ple aerials, can impair the anti-trap mechaj nism. Danger of injury. Do not attach any acj
cessories in the area of movement of the windows.'
