Malfunction
If the parking brake fails or malfunctions, sej
cure the vehicle against rolling away, for examj ple with a chock, if you leave the vehicle.
Afterapowerfailure
Initialoperation1.Switch on ignition.2. Press the switch with the brake

It can take a few seconds to put the brake into
operation. Any sounds that occur are normal.
The indicator lamp in the instrumentcluster extinguishes when the parkingbrake is operational again.

Do not fold in the exterior mirrors while driving
or while operating the turn indicators or hazard
warning lights to ensure that the turn indicaj tors in the exterior mirrors are well recognisaj

Indicating
Press the lever beyond the resistance point.
The lever returns to its initial position after actijvation. To cancel the signal manually, press
the lever softly as far as the resistance point.
Tripleturnsignal Briefly press the lever up or down.
The turn indicator flashes three times.This function can be enabled or disabled.Via iDrive:1."Settings"2."Lights"3."1-touch triple turn signal"
The setting is saved for the currently used
driver profile.
Indicatingaturnbriefly
Press the lever as far as the resistance point
and hold it there for as long as you wish to indij cate a turn.
Malfunction
If the indicator light flashes more rapidly than
usual, a turn signal light has failed.
During trailer towing, the light might also indij cate failure of one of the turn signal lights of
the trailer.

Wipersystem
General
Do not use wipers with a dry windscreen, othj
erwise the wiper blades will wear or become damaged more quickly.

folded away from the windscreen, this can trap body parts or damage parts of the vehicle.Danger of injury or damage to property. Make
sure that the vehicle is switched off when the wipers are folded away from the windscreen,and that the wipers are in contact with thewindscreen when switching on.'

Overview
Switchingonrearwindowwiper
Turn the outer switch upwards.
'yRest position of the wiper, position 0.'yIntermittent operation, arrow 1: engaging
reverse gear activates continuous operaj tion.
Cleaningrearwindow
Turn the outer switch in the desired direction.
'yIn rest position: turn the switch downward, arrow 3. The switch automatically returns
to its rest position when released.'yIn intermittent operation: turn the switch further, arrow 2. The switch automatically
returns to its intermittent position when rej
leased.
Fold-outpositionofthewipers
Principle In the fold-out position, the wipers can be folj
ded away from the windscreen.
General
This is important, for example for replacing the wiper blades or folding them out in the event offrost.
Safetyinstructions
WARNING
If the wipers start moving when they are
folded away from the windscreen, this can trap
body parts or damage parts of the vehicle. Danger of injury or damage to property. Make
sure that the vehicle is switched off when the wipers are folded away from the windscreen,
and that the wipers are in contact with the windscreen when switching on.'

FoldinginwipersAfter folding the wipers in, the wiper system
must be reactivated.1.Fold in the wipers completely onto the
windscreen.2.Switch on ignition.3.Press the wiper lever downwards. The wipj ers move back to the rest position and areoperational once again.
Washerfluid
General All washer jets are supplied from one tank.
Use a mixture of tap water and screenwash
concentrate for the windscreen washer, if necj
essary with the addition of anti-freeze.
Recommended minimum fill level: 1 litre, apj
proximately 1.7 Imp. pints.
Safetyinstructions WARNING
Some anti-freezes can contain toxic subj
stances, and are flammable. Risk of fire and faj
tal injury. Comply with the notes on the conj tainers. Keep anti-freezes away from sourcesof combustion. Do not pour service productsinto other bottles. Keep service products out ofthe reach of children.'

the kerb on upward or downward gradij ents.'yAdditionally secure the vehicle on upwardor downward gradients, for example using
a wedge.'

Flashingdisplayonselectorlever
In some situations, the actually engaged gearj
box setting may be different from the selector
lever position, and the display in the selector
lever flashes.
In these cases, refer to the display in the inj
strument cluster.
DDrivingMode In Driving Mode, all forward gears are automatjically changed.
Kick-down: for maximum acceleration, for exj ample, when overtaking. To do that, depress
the accelerator pedal beyond the resistance point.
Change to sequential mode: shift using the shift paddles or push the selector lever in the
D/S direction.
Ssequentialmode
Change up or change down using the shift
paddle or selector lever without coming off the gas.'yMaximum engine speed: when maximum
engine speed is reached, there is no autoj matic upshift in sequential mode. The
Kick-down is also deactivated.'yShortly before a minimum speed dependj ing on the gear, it automatically downj
shifts.'yThe gears are only shifted up or down with
the appropriate engine speed and road
speed.
For example, there is no downshift at too high an engine speed.'yKick-down: by operating the kick-downand the left shift paddle or selector lever at
the same time, you can change down to
the lowest possible gear.'yDriving off is possible even in 2nd gear on a
level carriageway, for example, when it is smooth.To change to Driving Mode: press selector
lever in the D/S direction.
RReverse
Engage this position only when the vehicle is
stationary.
For rocking out, even up to 10 km/h, approxij
mately 6 mph is possible. To do that, shift bej
tween forward and reverse gear without applyj ing the brakes.
NNeutral,idling
In selector lever position N, the vehicle can roll,
for example in car washes, see page 250.
PPark
The drive gears are locked.
Transmission position P is engaged automatij
cally:'yAfter stopping the engine in the radio
ready state, see page 74, or ignition off,
see page 74, when position R or D is enj
gaged.'yPosition N is engaged and ignition is off.'yIf the vehicle is at a standstill and position

RequirementsLaunch Control is available with an engine atoperating temperature, so after an uninterrupj
ted drive of at least 10 km, approximately 6 miles.
To start with Launch Control, do not engage
the steering wheel.
ActivatingLaunchControl1.Deactivate Dynamic Stability Control, see page 146, or activate M Dynamic Mode,
see page 146.2.Select sequential mode with gear 1 and
drive program 3.3.With the engine running, depress the brake
strongly with the left foot.4.Press the accelerator pedal until a flag symbol is shown in the instrument cluster.
Keep the accelerator pedal in this position.
The engine speed when driving off is reguj
lated.5.Release the brake within 3 seconds. The
vehicle accelerates.
Upshifts are automatic as long as the flag symbol is displayed and the accelerator
pedal is not released.
Launch Control is only available again after the
transmission has cooled down somewhat.
MEngineDynamicsControl
Principle The M Engine Dynamics Control affects the
response of the vehicle to movements of the accelerator pedal.
Programs Possibilities for adjusting the responsiveness:
'y"Efficient": efficient, comfortable. Minijmised consumption
Ideal, for example, in city traffic or on snow.'y"Sport": sporty, dynamic.'y"Sport Plus": spontaneous, direct. Maxij
mum dynamics.
