DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Anti-lockBrakingSystem
ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during
braking.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing
active safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the enj gine.
Brakeassistant When you apply the brakes rapidly, this systemautomatically produces the greatest possible
braking force boost. It reduces the braking disj
tance to a minimum during emergency stop.
This system utilizes all of the benefits provided
by the Antilock Brake System ABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.
Drive-offassistant Concept
This system supports driving off on inclines. The parking brake is not required.Drivingoffwiththedrive-offassistant1.Hold the vehicle in place with the foot
brake.2.Release the foot brake and drive off withj
out delay.
After the foot brake is released, the vehicle is held in place for approx. 2 seconds.
Depending on the vehicle load, the vehicle may roll back slightly.
DynamicPerformance
ControlDPC
The Dynamic Performance Control increases both the agility of the vehicle as well as the
lane stability.
The system seamlessly handles the distribuj tion of the drive torque between the two rear
wheels.
Depending on the situation, the drive torque is
shifted from the wheel on the inside of the
curve to the wheel on the outside of the curve
or vice-versa.
To increase the maneuverability, the rear wheel on the outside of the curve is accelerj
ated when a sporty driving style is used.
The steering responds directly; simultanej
ously, the understeering tendency of the four-
wheel drive is reduced.
With the oversteering tendency, the system exerts a stabilizing effect by accelerating the
rear wheel on the inside of the curve.
The system noticeably improves the traction
and simultaneously increases the driving
safety, especially on road surfaces having flucj
tuating coefficients of friction.

DSCDynamicStability
Control
Concept
Within the physical limits, the system helps to keep the vehicle on a steady course by reducjing engine speed and by applying brakes tothe individual wheels.
Generalinformation DSC detects the following unstable driving
conditions, for instance:
'yFishtailing, which can lead to oversteering.'yLoss of traction of the front wheels, which
can lead to understeering.Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closelyand actively intervene where appropriate.'

MDynamicModeMDM
Concept
M Dynamic Mode makes it possible to drive on
a dry roadway with high longitudinal and transj
verse acceleration but with limited driving staj
bility.
Only in the absolute limit area does the system
intervene for stabilization by reducing the enj gine power and by braking interventions on the
wheels. In this driving condition, additional
steering corrections may be necessary.
Safetyinformation WARNING
When M Dynamic Mode is activated, staj
bilizing interventions are carried out only to a
reduced extent. There is a risk of accidents or risk of damage to property. Adapt to trafficconditions. Watch traffic closely and activelyintervene where appropriate. Do not jerk the
steering wheel in response to a warning.'

xDrive xDrive is the all-wheel-drive system of your vej
hicle. Concerted action by the xDrive and DSC
Dynamic Stability Control further optimizes
traction and driving dynamics. The xDrive all- wheel-drive system variably distributes the
drive forces to the front and rear axles as dej manded by the driving situation and road surj
face.

HDCHillDescentControl
Concept
HDC is a downhill driving assistant that autoj matically controls vehicle speed on steep downhill gradients. Without applying the
brakes, the vehicle moves at slightly more than walking speed. It the brakes are actively apj
plied, the system distributes force according to
the traction.
Vehicle stability and maneuverability are imj proved on downhill gradients.
Hill Descent Control can be activated at speeds below approx. 22 mph/35 km/h. When

driving downhill, the vehicle reduces its speed
and then keeps its speed constant.
Only use HDC in low gears or in selector lever
position D or R.

braking the vehicle.'yOrange: the system is on
standby.
Malfunction
A message is displayed in the instrument clusj
ter. HDC is not available, for instance, at elej vated brake temperatures.
VerticalDynamicControl Concept
This system reduces undesirable vehicle moj
tion when using a dynamic driving style or travj
eling on uneven road surfaces.
This enhances the driving dynamics and drivj ing comfort depending on the road surface
condition and driving style.

Servotronic Concept
Servotronic is a speed-dependent power
steering function.
The system provides the steering force with
more support at low speeds than at higher
ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance,
and makes steering more direct when driving
at faster speeds.
Furthermore, the steering force adapts accordj
ing to the driving program, so that a direct, sporty feel or a comfortable steering response
is conveyed.

Self-levelingsuspension Theconcept
The self-leveling suspension keeps the vehicle height and ground clearance constant. Theheight of the vehicle at the rear axle is mainjtained at a predefined level under all load conjditions.
The system ensures consistent comfort by keeping spring travel constant in all driving sitj
uations.
Malfunction A Check Control message is displayed. The
