describes

standard,
country-spejcific
and
optional
features
offered
with
the
series. It
also
describes
features
and
functions
that
are
not
necessarily
available
in
your
vehicle,
e.g.,
due to
the
selected
options
or
country
versions.
Thisalso
applies
to
safety-related
functions
and
sysj
tems.
When
using
these
functions
and
systems,
the
applicable
laws
and
regulations
must
be
obj
served.
General
information
Depending
on
the
situation,
the
vehicle
is
in
one
of
the
three
states:
'xIdle
state.'xStandby
state.'xDrive-ready
state.
Idle
state
Concept
If
the
vehicle
is
in
idle
state,
it
is
switched
off.
All power
consumers
are
deactivated.
General
information
The
vehicle
is
in
idle
state
prior
to
opening
from the
outside
and
after
exiting
and
locking.
Safety
information
WARNING
An
unsecured
vehicle
can
begin
to
move
and
possibly
roll
away.
There
is
a
risk
of
an
accident.
Before
exiting,
secure
the
vehicle
against
rollj
ing.
In
order
to
ensure
that
the
vehicle
is
secured against
rolling
away,
follow
the
following:
'xSet
the
parking
brake.'xOn
uphill
grades
or
on
a
downhill
slope,
turn
the
front
wheels
in
the
direction
of
the
curb.'xOn
uphill
grades
or
on
a
downhill
slope,
also
secure
the
vehicle,
for
instance
with
a
wheel
chock.
WARNING
Unattended
children
or
animals
can
cause
the
vehicle
to
move
and
endanger
themselves
and
traffic,
for
instance
due
to
the
following

Automatic
idle
state
The
idle
state
is
automatically
established
under
the
following
conditions:

several
minutes,
if
no
operation
takes
place
on
the

charge
state

battery

idle
state
is
not
automatically
established
while
a
phone
call
is
active.

To

idle
state

the
vehicle

Standby
state
Concept
When
standby
state
is
switched
on,
most
funcj
tions
can
be
used
while
the
vehicle
is
stationary. Desired
settings
can
be
adjusted.
General
information The
vehicle
is
in
the
standby
state
after
the
front
doors
are
opened
from
the
outside.
Display
in
the
instrument
cluster OFF
is
displayed
in
the
instruj
ment
cluster.
The
drivetrain
is
switched
off
and
standby
state switched
on.
Drive-ready
state
Concept
Switching
on
drive-ready
state
corresponds
to
starting
the
engine.
General
information Some
functions,
such
as
DSC
Dynamic
Stability
Control,
can
only
be
used
with
drive-ready
state
switched
on.
Safety
information
DANGER
If
the
exhaust
pipe
is
blocked
or
ventilation
is
inj
sufficient,
harmful
exhaust
gases
can
enter
into the
vehicle.
The
exhaust
gases
contain
pollujtants
which
are
colorless
and
odorless.
In
enj
closed
areas,
exhaust
gases
can
also
accumuj
late
outside
of
the
vehicle.
There
is
danger
to
life.
Keep
the
exhaust
pipe
free
and
ensure
sufj
ficient
ventilation.

WARNING
An

Switching
on
drive-ready
state
Concept Drive-ready
state
is
switched
on
via
the
Start/Stop
button:
Steptronic
transmission
1.Depress
the
brake
pedal.2.Press

Start/Stop
button.
The
ignition
is
activated
automatically
for
a
brief
time
and
is
stopped
as
soon
as
the
engine
starts.
Most
of
the
indicator/warning
lights
in
the
instruj
ment
cluster
light
up
for
a
varied
length
of
time.
Gasoline
engine
Depending
on
the
motorization,
the
full
drive
power
may
not
be
available
for
approximately
30
seconds
after
starting
the
engine.
In
this
case,
the
vehicle
will
not
accelerate
as
usual.
Display
in
the
instrument
cluster
When
drive-ready
state
is
switched
on,
the
tachj
ometer
shows
the
current
engine
speed.
