140 Instruments and Controls Auto Wipe in Reverse Gear
When on and the front wiper is on,
the rear wiper will automatically
activate when the vehicle is shifted
to R (Reverse).
Select Off or On.
Lighting Touch and the following may
display:

Vehicle Locator Lights
This setting flashes the headlamps
of your vehicle when you press
Kon the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter.
Touch Off or On.
Exit Lighting
This setting specifies how long the
headlamps stay on after the vehicle
is turned off and exited.
Touch Off, 30 Seconds, 60 Seconds,
or 120 Seconds. Power Door Locks Touch and the following may
display:

Open Door Anti Lock Out

Delayed Door Lock
Open Door Anti Lock Out
This setting prevents the vehicle
from being locked while a door is
open. If this setting is on, the
Delayed Door Lock menu will not be
available.
Touch Off or On.
Auto Door Unlock
This setting allows selection of
which doors will automatically
unlock when the vehicle is shifted
into P (Park).
Touch Off, All Doors, or Driver Door.
Delayed Door Lock
This setting will lock the vehicle a
short time after all doors are closed.
Touch Off or On. Remote Lock, Unlock, Start Touch and the following may

This setting specifies whether all
doors, or just the driver door, unlock
when pressing
K on the RKE
transmitter.
Touch All Doors or Driver Door.
Remote Start Auto Cool Seats
This setting automatically turns on
the ventilated seats when using the
remote start function on warm days.
See Heated and Ventilated Front
Seats 0 46 and
Remote Vehicle Start 0 15 .
Touch Off or On.
Remote Start Auto Heat Seats
This setting automatically turns on
the heated seats when using the
remote start function on cold days.

If equipped with Auto Heated
Steering Wheel, this feature will turn
on when the Remote Start Auto
Heated Seats turn on.
Touch Off or On. Remote Window Operation
If equipped, this feature enables
remote operation of the windows
with the RKE transmitter. See
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)

Passive Door Unlock
This setting specifies which doors
unlock when using the button on the
driver door handle to unlock the
vehicle.
Touch Off, All Doors or Driver
Door Only.
Passive Door Lock
This setting specifies if the vehicle
will automatically lock, or lock and
provide an alert after all the doors
are closed, and you walk away from
the vehicle with the RKE transmitter.

Touch Off, On with Horn
Chirp, or On. Remote Left in Vehicle Alert
This feature sounds an alert when
the RKE transmitter is left in the
vehicle. This menu also enables
Remote No Longer in Vehicle Alert.

This feature automatically recalls
the previously stored 1 or 2 button
positions when the vehicle is

Front Reading Lamps
The front reading lamps are in the
overhead console.
Press the lamp lenses to turn the
front reading lamps on or off. Rear Reading Lamps
The rear reading lamps are over the
rear seats.
Press the lamp lens to turn the rear
passenger reading lamps on or off. Lighting Features Entry Lighting Some exterior lamps and most of
the interior lights turn on briefly at
night, or in areas of limited lighting
when
K is pressed on the Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.

System Operation 0 8 . When the
driver door is opened, all control
lights, Driver Information Center
(DIC) lights, and door pocket lights
turn on. After about 30 seconds the
exterior lamps turn off, then the
remaining interior lights dim to off.
Entry lighting can be disabled
manually by turning the ignition on
or to ACC/ACCESSORY, or by
pressing
Q on the RKE transmitter.
This feature can be changed. See
“ Vehicle Locator Lights ” under
Vehicle Personalization 0 137 .

inside the vehicle so that
some of them are above
the tops of the seats..

folded down unless
needed. Starting and
Operating New Vehicle Break-In CautionThe vehicle does not need an
elaborate break-in. But it will
perform better in the long run if
you follow these guidelines:
.
Do not drive at any one
constant speed, fast or slow,
for the first 800 km (500 mi).
Do not make full-throttle
starts. Avoid downshifting to
brake or slow the vehicle.
.
Avoid making hard stops for
the first 300 km (200 mi) or
so. During this time the new
brake linings are not yet
broken in. Hard stops with
new linings can mean
premature wear and earlier
replacement. Follow this

time you get new brake
linings.
Following break-in, engine speed
and load can be gradually
increased.
Ignition Positions
Vehicles with Keyless Access have
pushbutton starting.

transmitter must be in the vehicle for
the system to operate. If the
pushbutton start is not working, the
vehicle may be near a strong radio
antenna signal causing interference
to the Keyless Access system. See
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System Operation 0 8 .
To shift out of P (Park), the engine
must be running, and the brake
pedal must be applied.
Stopping the Engine/OFF (No
Indicator Lights) : When the
vehicle is stopped, press ENGINE
START/STOP once to turn the
engine off.
If the vehicle is in P (Park), the
ignition will turn off, and Retained
Accessory Power (RAP) will remain
active. See Retained Accessory
Power (RAP) 0 186 .
If the vehicle is in R (Reverse), D
(Drive) or L (Low), the vehicle will
shift to P (Park), the ignition will turn
off, and Retained Accessory Power
(RAP) will remain active. If the vehicle is in N (Neutral), the
ignition will return to ACC/
ACCESSORY and display the
message SHIFT TO PARK in the
Driver Information Center (DIC).
When the vehicle is shifted into
P (Park), the ignition will turn off.
Do not turn the engine off when the
vehicle is moving. This will cause a
loss of power assist in the brake
and steering systems and disable
the airbags.
If the vehicle must be shut off in an
emergency:
1. Brake using a firm and steady
pressure. Do not pump the
brakes repeatedly. This may
deplete power assist, requiring
increased brake pedal force.
2. Shift the vehicle to N (Neutral).
This can be done while the
vehicle is moving. After shifting
to N (Neutral), firmly apply the
brakes and steer the vehicle to
a safe location.
3. Come to a complete stop and
shift to P (Park). 4. Set the parking brake. See
Electric Parking Brake 0 198 .
5. Press ENGINE START/STOP
to turn the vehicle off.
{ WarningTurning off the vehicle while
moving may cause loss of power
assist in the brake and steering
systems and disable the airbags.
While driving, only shut the
vehicle off in an emergency.
If the vehicle cannot be pulled over,
and must be shut off while driving,
press and hold ENGINE START/
STOP for longer than two seconds,
or press twice in five seconds.
ACC/ACCESSORY (Amber
Indicator Light) : This mode allows
some electrical accessories to be
used when the engine is off.
With the ignition off, pressing the
button one time without the brake
pedal applied will place the ignition
system in ACC/ACCESSORY.

Driving and Operating 183The ignition will switch from ACC/
ACCESSORY to OFF after
five minutes to prevent battery
rundown.
ON/RUN/START (Green Indicator
Light) : This mode is for driving and
starting. With the ignition off, and
the brake pedal applied, pressing
the button once will place the
ignition system in ON/RUN/START.
Once engine cranking begins,
release the button. Engine cranking
will continue until the engine starts.
See Starting the Engine 0 183 . The
ignition will then remain on.
Service Mode
This power mode is available for
service and diagnostics, and to
verify the proper operation of the
malfunction indicator lamp as may
be required for emission inspection
purposes. With the vehicle off, and
the brake pedal not applied,
pressing and holding the button for
more than five seconds will place
the vehicle in Service Mode. The
instruments and audio systems will
operate as they do in ON/RUN, but
the vehicle will not be able to be driven. The engine will not start in
Service Mode. Press the button
again to turn the vehicle off.
Starting the Engine Press the P (Park) button on the
shift lever or shift the vehicle to
N (Neutral). The engine will not start
in any other position. To restart the
engine when the vehicle is already
moving, use N (Neutral) only.
CautionDo not try to shift to P (Park) if the
vehicle is moving. If you do, you
could damage the transmission.
Shift to P (Park) only when the
vehicle is stopped.
Caution
If you add electrical parts or
accessories, you could change
the way the engine operates. Any
resulting damage would not be

Starting Procedure 1. With the Keyless Access
system, the RKE transmitter
must be in the vehicle. Press
ENGINE START/STOP with the
brake pedal applied. When the
engine begins cranking, let go
of the button.
The idle speed will go down as
the engine gets warm. Do not
race the engine immediately
after starting it.
If the RKE transmitter is not in
the vehicle, if there is
interference, or if the RKE
battery is low, the Driver
Information Center (DIC) will
display a message.
