Engine Oil
To ensure proper engine
performance and long life,
careful attention must be paid
to engine oil. Following these
simple, but important steps
will help protect your
investment:
.Use engine oil approved to
the proper specification and
of the proper viscosity
grade. See “Selecting the
Right Engine Oil” in this
section.
.Check the engine oil level
regularly and maintain the
proper oil level. See
“Checking Engine Oil” and
“When to Add Engine Oil” in
this section.
.Change the engine oil at the
appropriate time. See Engine
Oil Life System 0381.
.Always dispose of engine oil
properly. See “What to Do
with Used Oil” in this section.
Checking Engine Oil
Check the engine oil level
regularly, every 650 km
(400 mi), especially prior to a
long trip. The engine oil
dipstick handle is a loop. See
Engine Compartment
Overview0373 for the
location.
{Warning
The engine oil dipstick
handle may be hot; it could
burn you. Use a towel or
glove to touch the dipstick
handle.
If a low oil Driver Information
Center (DIC) message displays,
check the oil level.

Lamps
Uplevel

Base level
To replace one of these lamps:1. Open the hood.
2. If your vehicle is equipped with a beauty cover,
remove the beauty cover
to get access to the bulb.
3. Turn the bulb socketcounterclockwise to
remove it from the
headlamp assembly.
4. Unplug the electrical connector from the bulb by
releasing the clip on the
connector.
5. Replace the bulb and reverse Steps 1–4 to
reinstall.
Electrical System
Electrical System
Overload
The vehicle has fuses and
circuit breakers to protect
against an electrical system
overload.
When the current electrical
load is too heavy, the circuit
breaker opens and closes,
protecting the circuit until the
current load returns to normal
or the problem is fixed. This greatly reduces the chance of
circuit overload and fire
caused by electrical problems.
Fuses and circuit breakers
protect power devices in the
vehicle.
If there is a problem on the
road and a fuse needs to be
replaced, the same amperage
fuse can be borrowed. Choose
some feature of the vehicle
that is not needed to use and
replace it as soon as possible.
To check a fuse, look at the
band inside the fuse. If the
band is broken or melted,
replace the fuse. Be sure to
replace a bad fuse with a fuse
of the identical size and rating.

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Locate the fuse puller inthe engine compartment
fuse block.
3. Use the fuse puller toremove the fuse from the
top or side, as shown
above.
4. If the fuse must be replaced immediately,
borrow a replacement fuse
with the same amperage
from the fuse block.
Choose a vehicle feature
that is not needed to
safely operate the vehicle.
Repeat Steps 2-3.

{Warning
Installation or use of fuses
that do not meet GM’s
original fuse specifications is
dangerous. The fuses could
fail, and result in a fire. You
or others could be injured or
killed, and the vehicle could
be damaged.
See Accessories and
Modifications 0370 and
General Information 0369.
To check or replace a blown
fuse, see Electrical System
Overload 0404.
