Turn Signal/Multifunction Lever
The lever on the left side of the steering column
includes the following:
G : Turn and Lane Change Signals
5 : Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer N : Windshield Wipers
L : Windshield Washer
5 : Rear Wiper Delay
Z : Rear Wiper
= : Rear Wiper Wash
Flash-to-Pass Feature.
Information for these features is on the pages following.

Turn and Lane-Change Signals An arrow on the instrument
panel cluster ashes in the
direction of the turn or
lane change.
Move the lever all the way up or down to signal a turn.
Raise or lower the lever for less than one second
until the arrow starts to ash to signal a lane change.
This causes the turn signals to automatically ash three
times. It will ash six times if tow-haul mode is active.
Holding the turn signal lever for more than one second
will cause the turn signals to ash until you release
the lever.
The lever returns to its starting position whenever it is
released.
If after signaling a turn or a lane change the arrows
ash rapidly or do not come on, a signal bulb could be
burned out.
Have the bulbs replaced. If the bulb is not burned out,
check the fuse. See Fuses and Circuit Breakers on
page 6-106 . Turn Signal On Chime If the turn signal is left on for more than 3/4 of a mile
(1.2 km), a chime will sound at each ash of the
turn signal and the message TURN SIGNAL ON will
also appear in the Driver Information Control (DIC).
To turn the chime and message off, move the turn
signal lever to the off position.
Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer
53 (Headlamp High/Low Beam Changer):
To change the headlamps from low to high beam,
push the lever toward the instrument panel. To return
to low-beam headlamps, pull the multifunction lever
toward you. Then release it.
When the high beams
are on, this indicator light
on the instrument panel
cluster will also be on.

Flash-to-Pass This feature lets you use the high-beam headlamps to
signal a driver in front of you that you want to pass.
It works even if the headlamps are in the automatic
position.
To use it, pull the turn signal lever toward you, then
release it.
If the headlamps are in the automatic position or on low
beam, the high-beam headlamps will turn on. They will
stay on as long as you hold the lever toward you. The
high-beam indicator on the instrument panel cluster will
come on. Release the lever to return to normal operation.
For vehicles with High Intensity Discharge (HID)
headlamps, the low-beam headlamps must be on
for the ash-to-pass feature to work.
Windshield Wipers Turn the band with the wiper symbol to control the
windshield wipers.
8 (Mist): Turn to mist for a single wiping cycle.
Hold it there until the wipers start. Then let go.
The wipers stop after one wipe. Hold the band
on mist longer, for more wipe cycles. 9 (Off): Turns the wipers off.
6 (Delay): Turn the band to adjust the delay time.
The delay between wiping cycles becomes shorter as
the band is moved to the top of the lever. This can
be very useful in light rain or snow.
6 (Low Speed): For steady wiping at low speed.
? (High Speed): For high-speed wiping.
Clear ice and snow from the wiper blades before using
them. If they are frozen to the windshield, gently loosen
or thaw them. Damaged wiper blades may not clear the
windshield well, making it harder to see and drive safely.
If the blades do become damaged, install new blades or
blade inserts. For more information, see Windshield
Wiper Blade Replacement on page 6-54 .
Heavy snow or ice can overload the wiper motor.
A circuit breaker will stop the motor until it cools down.
Clear away snow or ice to prevent an overload.

IntelliBeam ®
Intelligent High-Beam
Headlamp Control System For vehicles with this feature, be sure to read this entire
section before using it.
IntelliBeam ®
is an enhancement to the vehicle’s
headlamp system. Using a digital light sensor on the
rearview mirror, this system will turn the vehicle’s
high-beam headlamps on and off according to
surrounding traffic conditions.
The IntelliBeam ®
system turns the high-beam
headlamps on when it is dark enough, there is no other
traffic present, and the IntelliBeam ®
system is enabled.
Turning On and Enabling IntelliBeam ®
Press and release the IntelliBeam ®
button on the inside
rear view mirror. The IntelliBeam ®
indicator on the mirror
will turn on to let you know the system has been turned
on. Once the system has been turned on, it will remain
on each time the vehicle is started. Additionally, the
IntelliBeam ®
system must be enabled.
To enable the IntelliBeam ®
system, turn the exterior
lamp control to AUTO, with the turn signal/multifunction
lever in its neutral position. The High-Beam On Light
will appear on the instrument panel cluster when
the high-beams are on. See Highbeam On Light
on page 3-46 . Driving with IntelliBeam ®
IntelliBeam ®
will only activate your high-beams when
driving over 20 mph (32 km/h).
The high-beam headlamps will remain on, under the
automatic control of IntelliBeam ®
, until any of the
following situations occur:
The system detects an approaching vehicle’s
headlamps.
The system detects a preceding vehicle’s taillamps.
The outside light is bright enough that high-beam
headlamps are not required.
The vehicle’s speed drops below 15 mph (24 km/h).
The headlamp stalk is moved forward to the
high-beam position. See Headlamp High/Low-Beam
Changer on page 3-8 .
When either of these conditions occur, the
IntelliBeam ®
feature will be disabled and the
IntelliBeam ®
light in the mirror will turn off until the
high-beam stalk is returned to the neutral position.
If IntelliBeam ®
was using low-beams prior to
this action, the IntelliBeam ®
feature will be
temporarily disabled until the stalk is returned
to the neutral position.

The exterior lamp control is turned to any setting
except AUTO.
When this occurs, IntelliBeam ®
will be disabled until
the control is turned back to the AUTO position.
The IntelliBeam ®
system is turned off at the inside
rearview mirror.
IntelliBeam ®
may not turn off the high-beams if the
system cannot detect other vehicle’s lamps because
of any of the following:
The others vehicle’s lamp(s) are missing, damaged,
obstructed from view or otherwise undetected.
The other vehicle’s lamp(s) are covered with dirt,
snow and/or road spray.
The other vehicle’s lamp(s) cannot be detected due
to dense exhaust, smoke, fog, snow, road spray,
mist or other airborne obstructions. Your vehicle’s windshield is dirty, cracked or
obstructed by something that blocks the view
of the IntelliBeam light sensor.
Your vehicle’s windshield is covered with ice, dirt,
haze or other obstructions.
Your vehicle is loaded such that the front end of
the vehicle points upward, causing the IntelliBeam
sensor to aim high and not detect headlamps
and taillamps.
You are driving on winding or hilly roads.
You may need to manually disable or cancel the
high-beam headlamps by turning the low-beam
headlamps on, if any of the above conditions exist.

Reading Lamps If the vehicle has reading lamps, press the button
located next to the lamp to turn it on or off.
The vehicle may also have reading lamps in other
locations. The lamps cannot be adjusted.
Electric Power Management The vehicle has Electric Power Management (EPM) that
estimates the battery’s temperature and state of charge.
It then adjusts the voltage for best performance and
extended life of the battery.
When the battery’s state of charge is low, the voltage
is raised slightly to quickly bring the charge back up.
When the state of charge is high, the voltage is lowered
slightly to prevent overcharging. If the vehicle has a
voltmeter gage or a voltage display on the Driver
Information Center (DIC), you may see the voltage
move up or down. This is normal. If there is a problem,
an alert will be displayed.
The battery can be discharged at idle if the electrical
loads are very high. This is true for all vehicles.
This is because the generator (alternator) may not
be spinning fast enough at idle to produce all the
power that is needed for very high electrical loads. A high electrical load occurs when several of the
following are on, such as: headlamps, high beams,
fog lamps, rear window defogger, climate control fan at
high speed, heated seats, engine cooling fans, trailer
loads, and loads plugged into accessory power outlets.
EPM works to prevent excessive discharge of the
battery. It does this by balancing the generator’s output
and the vehicle’s electrical needs. It can increase engine
idle speed to generate more power, whenever needed.
It can temporarily reduce the power demands of some
accessories.
Normally, these actions occur in steps or levels, without
being noticeable. In rare cases at the highest levels of
corrective action, this action may be noticeable to the
driver. If so, a Driver Information Center (DIC) message
might be displayed, such as BATTERY SAVER ACTIVE,
BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW, or LOW BATTERY. If this
message is displayed, it is recommended that the driver
reduce the electrical loads as much as possible. See DIC
Warnings and Messages on page 3-56 .

Cruise Control Light The cruise control light
comes on whenever the
cruise control is set.
The light goes out when the cruise control is turned off.
See Cruise Control on page 3-13 for more information.
Highbeam On Light This light comes on when
the high-beam headlamps
are in use.
See Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer on page 3-8
for more information. Tow/Haul Mode Light This light comes on when
the Tow/Haul mode has
been activated.
For more information, see Tow/Haul Mode on page 2-33 .
Fuel Gage When the ignition is on, the
fuel gage shows about how
much fuel the vehicle has
left in the tank.
An arrow on the fuel gage indicates the side of the
vehicle the fuel door is on.

AUTO HIGH BEAMS If your vehicle has this feature, it allows you to select
to have the Intellibeam ®
system turned off or on.
See Exterior Lamps on page 3-16 for more information.
Press the customization button until AUTO HIGH
BEAMS appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset
button once to access the settings for this feature.
Then press the customization button to scroll through
the following settings:
OFF (default): The Intellibeam ®
system will be
turned off.
ON: The Intellibeam ®
system will be turned on.
NO CHANGE: No change will be made to this feature.
The current setting will remain.
To select a setting, press the set/reset button while the
desired setting is displayed on the DIC. CHIME VOLUME This feature allows you to select the volume level of the
chime.
Press the customization button until CHIME VOLUME
appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset
button once to access the settings for this feature.
Then press the customization button to scroll through
the following settings:
NORMAL: The chime volume will be set to a normal
level.
LOUD: The chime volume will be set to a loud level.
NO CHANGE: No change will be made to this feature.
The current setting will remain.
There is no default for chime volume. The volume will
stay at the last known setting.
To select a setting, press the set/reset button while the
desired setting is displayed on the DIC.
