)(Bi-Level):Air is divided between the instrument
panel and oor outlets. Some air is directed towards the
windshield and side window outlets.
6(Floor):Air is directed to the oor outlets. Use this
mode to send air to the rear of the vehicle. Keep the
area under the front seats free of objects that could
obstruct airow to the rear of the vehicle.
-(Defog):This mode clears the windows of fog or
moisture. Air is directed to the windshield and the oor
outlets. When this mode is selected, the system runs
the air-conditioning compressor unless the outside
temperature is at or below freezing. The recirculation
mode cannot be selected while in the defog mode.
0(Defrost):This mode clears the windshield of fog
or frost more quickly. Air is directed to the windshield
and the side window outlets, with some air directed to
the oor outlets. In this mode, the system automatically
runs the air-conditioning system, unless the outside
temperature is at or below freezing. Recirculation cannot
be selected while in the defrost mode.
Do not drive the vehicle until all the windows are clear.
#(Air Conditioning):Press to turn the air
conditioning system on or off. The fan must be on
to operate the air conditioning. An indicator light
comes on when the air conditioning is on.
A slight change in engine performance may be
noticeable when the air conditioning turns off and on
again. This is normal. The system is designed to make
adjustments to help with fuel economy while still
maintaining the selected temperature.
On hot days, open the windows to let hot inside air
escape; then close them. This helps to reduce the time
it takes for the vehicle to cool down so the system
operates more efficiently.
The air conditioning system removes moisture from
the air, so a small amount of water might drip under
the vehicle while idling or after turning off the engine.
This is normal.
Outside Air:Outside air is automatically selected in
any mode, except maximum air conditioning.

Rear Window Defogger
The rear window defogger uses a warming grid to
remove fog from the rear window.
<Rear Window Defogger:Press to turn the rear
window defogger on or off. An indicator light comes on
when the rear window defogger is on.
The rear window defogger turns off about 15 minutes
after the button is pressed. If turned on again, the
defogger will only run for about ve minutes before
turning off. The defogger can also be turned off
by turning off the engine.
Notice:Do not use anything sharp on the inside of
the rear window. If you do, you could cut or damage
the warming grid, and the repairs would not be
covered by the vehicle warranty. Do not attach a
temporary vehicle license, tape, a decal or anything
similar to the defogger grid.
((Heated Seats):Press to turn on the heated seats.

Outlet Adjustment
Use the louvers located on the air outlets to change the
direction of the airow.
Use the thumbwheels on the driver side and passenger
side air outlets to open or close the airow from
these outlets.
Operation Tips

Clear away any ice, snow, or leaves from the air
inlets at the base of the vehicle that could block
the ow of air into the vehicle.
Do not use any non-GM approved hood deectors
that could adversely affect the performance of the
system.
Keep the path under the front seats clear of objects
to help circulate the air inside of the vehicle more
effectively.

Rear Climate Control System
For vehicles with a rear climate control system, the
driver or rear seat passengers may be able to adjust the
fan speed for the rear seating area. This system works
with the main climate control system.
This lever is located below the main climate control
system and it is used to adjust the fan speed for the rear
seat passengers.
9(Off):Turns the fan off.
A(Fan):Slide the lever to 1, 2, or 3 to increase or
decrease airow to the rear seating area.
AUX (Auxiliary):Slide the lever to AUX to let the rear
passengers adjust the temperature and airow to the rear
seating area.When the front climate control is in AUX and the rear
climate control fan or temperature button is pressed, the
display shows the same airow modes as the front
climate control system. SeeDual Climate Control
System on page 3-25Dual Climate Control System.
The front control must be in the AUX position to enable
adjustment of the temperature and fan speed on the
rear control system. If it is not in AUX, pressing the fan
or temperature button on the rear climate control will
show a DISABLED message on the Rear Seat
Entertainment (RSE) system display.
qg(Decrease Setting):Press to decrease the fan
or temperature setting while arrows are displayed.
rl(Increase Setting):Press to increase the fan or
temperature setting while arrows are displayed.
9(Fan)b(Temperature):Press once to enable
adjustment of the fan speed. The current fan speed
setting and arrows are highlighted on the display screen.

fan speed. The on screen display disappears after

Rear Air Outlets
The outlet behind the driver side rear seat is for the cold
air return. Be sure to keep it free from obstructions.
Also, keep the area around the base of the center
instrument panel console, between and under the front
seats, free of objects that could also obstruct airow
to the rear seating area.

Passenger Compartment Air Filter
Both outside and recirculated air are routed through a
passenger compartment lter. Pollen, dust particles and
other contaminants are removed by the lter. Air
reductions indicate that the lter needs to be replaced.

replacement intervals.
The access panel for the passenger compartment air
lter is located in the back of the glove box. To replace
the lter:
1. Pull the tab located on the outer access panel
up and out.

2. Push the tab, located on the left of the inner access
panel, to the right.
3. The rst air lter will pull straight out. To remove
the second, reach in and slide it toward the
opening. Pull the second lter out.
4. Replace the lters by reversing Step 3. Make sure
the lters are inserted so that the sealing foam is
angled in the same direction on both lters. See
Maintenance Replacement Parts on page 6-13for
the type of lter needed.5. Close the inner access door, while squeezing the
tab. Be sure it is tightly closed.
6. Snap the outer access panel into the back of the
glove box.
Warning Lights, Gages, and
Indicators
Warning lights and gages can signal that something
is wrong before it becomes serious enough to cause
an expensive repair or replacement. Paying attention
to the warning lights and gages could prevent injury.
Warning lights come on when there may be or is a
problem with one of the vehicle’s functions. Some
warning lights come on briey when the engine is
started to indicate they are working.
Gages can indicate when there may be or is a problem
with one of the vehicle’s functions. Often gages and
warning lights work together to indicate a problem with
the vehicle.
When one of the warning lights comes on and stays on
while driving, or when one of the gages shows there may
be a problem, check the section that explains what to do.
Follow this manual’s advice. Waiting to do repairs can be
costly and even dangerous.

Instrument Panel Cluster
Your instrument panel cluster is designed to let you know at a glance how your vehicle is running. You will know
how fast you are going, how much fuel you are using, and many other things you will need to drive safely and
economically. The indicator warning lights and gages are explained on the following pages.

Speedometer and Odometer
Your speedometer lets you see your speed in both
miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h).
Your odometer shows how far your vehicle has
been driven, in either miles (used in the United States)
or kilometers (used in Canada).
Your vehicle has a tamper-resistant odometer.
You may wonder what happens if your vehicle needs a
new odometer installed. The new one can be set to
the mileage total of the old odometer.
Trip Odometer
The trip odometer can display how far the vehicle has
been driven since it was last reset.

Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in revolutions
per minute (rpm).
Safety Belt Reminders
Safety Belt Reminder Light
When the engine is started, a chime sounds for
several seconds to remind people to fasten their safety
belts, unless the driver’s safety belt is already buckled.
The safety belt light comes
on and stays on for
several seconds, then
ashes for several more.
This chime and light are repeated if the driver remains
unbuckled and the vehicle is in motion. If the driver’s
safety belt is already buckled, neither the chime nor the
light comes on.
Passenger Safety Belt Reminder Light
Several seconds after the engine is started, a chime
sounds for several seconds to remind the front passenger
to buckle their safety belt. This only occurs if the
passenger airbag is enabled. SeePassenger Sensing
System on page 1-85for more information. The
passenger safety belt light, located on the instrument
panel, comes on and stays on for several seconds and
then ashes for several more.

the vehicle is in motion.
If the passenger safety belt is buckled, neither the
chime nor the light comes on.
Airbag Readiness Light
The system checks the airbag’s electrical system for
possible malfunctions. If the light stays on it indicates
there is an electrical problem. The system check
includes the airbag sensor, the pretensioners, the airbag
modules, the wiring and the crash sensing and
diagnostic module. For more information on the airbag
system, seeAirbag System on page 1-77.The airbag readiness light
ashes for a few seconds
when the engine is
started. If the light does
not come on then, have it
xed immediately.
{CAUTION:
If the airbag readiness light stays on after the
vehicle is started or comes on while driving, it
means the airbag system might not be working
properly. The airbags in the vehicle might not
inate in a crash, or they could even inate
without a crash. To help avoid injury, have the
vehicle serviced right away.
If there is a problem with the airbag system, an airbag
Driver Information Center (DIC) message can also come
on. SeeDIC Warnings and Messages on page 3-51
for more information.

Passenger Airbag Status Indicator
The vehicle has a passenger sensing system. See
Passenger Sensing System on page 1-85for important
safety information. The instrument panel has a
passenger airbag status indicator.
When the vehicle is
started, the passenger
airbag status indicator will
light the symbol for on
and off for several seconds
as a system check.
If you use remote start to start your vehicle from a
distance, if equipped, you may not see the system
check. Then, after several more seconds, the status
indicator will light either the on or off symbol to let you
know the status of the right front passenger frontal
and seat-mounted side impact airbags (if equipped).
If the on symbol is lit on the passenger airbag status
indicator, it means that the right front passenger frontal
airbag and seat-mounted side impact airbag (if equipped)
are enabled (may inate).If the off symbol is lit on the airbag status indicator, it
means that the passenger sensing system has turned off
the right front passenger frontal airbag and
seat-mounted side impact airbag (if equipped).
If, after several seconds, both status indicator lights
remain on, or if there are no lights at all, there may be a
problem with the lights or the passenger sensing
system. See your dealer/retailer for service.
{CAUTION:
If the airbag readiness light ever comes on and
stays on, it means that something may be wrong
with the airbag system. To help avoid injury to
yourself or others, have the vehicle serviced right
away. SeeAirbag Readiness Light on page 3-33
for more information, including important safety
information.

Charging System Light
This light comes on briey
when the ignition key is
turned to start, but
the engine is not running,
as a check to show it
is working.
If it does not, have the vehicle serviced by your
dealer/retailer.
The light should go out once the engine starts. If it stays
on, or comes on while driving, there could be a problem
with the charging system. A charging system message in
the Driver Information Center (DIC) can also appear.
SeeDIC Warnings and Messages on page 3-51for
more information. This light could indicate that there are
problems with a generator drive belt, or that there is an
electrical problem. Have it checked right away. If the
vehicle must be driven a short distance with the light on,
turn off accessories, such as the radio and air
conditioner.
Brake System Warning Light
When the ignition is on, the brake system warning light
will come on when you set your parking brake. The light
will stay on if your parking brake does not release fully.
If it stays on after your parking brake is fully released, it
means you have a brake problem.
Your vehicle’s hydraulic brake system is divided into
two parts. If one part is not working, the other part can
still work and stop you. For good braking, though,
you need both parts working well.
If the warning light comes on, there could be a brake
problem. Have your brake system inspected right away.
This light should come on
briey when you turn the
ignition key to RUN.
If it does not come on then, have it xed so it will be
ready to warn you if there is a problem.
