be seen more easily. The daytime running lamps come on automatically when star ting the motor, if no
other lighting is on.
They cannot be deactivated. With the main li
ghting control ring in the AUTO
position, the sidelamps and dipped beam
headlamps come on automaticall
y, without anyaction by the driver, when a low level of ambientlight is detected.
When the light returns to a sufficient level or the
wipers are switched off, the lighting is switched
off automatically.
The sensor is located at the base of the
windscreen.
Automatic illumination of headlamps
Automatic lighting off
When the lighting stalk is in the "dipped or mainbeam headlamps" position, if the ignition switch
is in the "LOCK" or "ACC" position or if thekey has been removed, the lighting switches
off automatically when the driver's door isopened .
The driver is is aler ted by an audible signal. The initial setting is position "0".

Headlamp
adjustment

To avoid causing a nuisance to other road
users, the height of the halogen headlampsshould be adjusted according to the load in the
vehicle. 0. Driver only or driver + 1 front passenger.
1 or 2.
4 people (including the driver). 3.4 people (including the driver) + maximumauthorised load.4.
Driver + maximum authorised load.

Even though these lamps are located inthe same lamp unit as the front foglamp, the operate with a specific bulb.
Their use is covered by road vehiclelighting regulations.
In foggy weather or in snow, thesunshine sensor may detect sufficient light. The lighting will not come on automatically. Do not cover the sunshine sensor, theassociated functions will no longer becontrolled.

Braking assistance systems
Anti-lock braking system
and electronic brake force
distribution
Linked systems which improve the stability andmanoeuvrability of your vehicle when braking,
in par ticular on poor or slippery surfaces.
Group of supplementary systems which help
you to obtain optimum braking in completesafety in emergency situations:

- anti-lock braking system (ABS),

- electronic brake force distribution (EBFD),

- emergency braking assistance (EBA).

Emergency or
assistance call
This system allows you to make an emergencyor assistance call to the emergency services or
to the dedicated CITROËN service.
For more information on the use of this function, refer to the "Audio and telematics"section.
When braking in an emergency, press very firmly without releasing thepressure.
Activation
The anti-lock braking system comes into
operation automatically when there is a risk of
wheel lock.
Normal operation of the ABS may make itself felt by slight vibration of the brake pedal.

The driver must ensure that passengers usethe seat belts correctly and that they are allrestrained securely before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the vehicle, always fasten your seat belt, even for short journeys.
Do not interchange the seat belt buckles asthey will not fulfil their role fully.
The seat belts are fitted with an inertia reel permitting automatic adjustment of the length of the strap to your size. The seat belt isstowed automatically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the seatbelt is reeled in correctly.
The lower par t of the strap must bepositioned as low as possible on the pelvis.
The upper par t must be positioned inthe hollow of the shoulder.
The inertia reels are fitted with an automatic locking device which comes into operation inthe event of a collision, emergency braking or if the vehicle rolls over. You can releasethe device by pulling firmly on the strap and releasing it so that it reels in slightly.
Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the passenger isless than 12 years old or shor ter than one and a half metres. Never use the same seat belt to secure morethan one person. Never allow a child to travel on your lap.

In order to be effective, a seat belt must:

- be tightened as close to the body as possible,

- be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that it does nottwist,

- be used to restrain only one person,

- not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,

- not be converted or modified to avoid affecting its per formance.
In accordance with current safety regulations, for all repairs on your vehicle, go to a qualified workshop with the skills and equipment needed, which a CITROËN dealer is able to provide.
Have your seat belts checked regularly by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop, particularly if the straps show signs of damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapywater or a textile cleaning product, sold by CITROËN dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is positioned and reeled in correctly.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and seriousness of the impact
, thepretensioning device may be deployedbefore and independently of the airbags.Deployment of the pretensioners isaccompanied by a slight discharge of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in the system. In all cases, the airbag warning lampcomes on.Following an impact, have the seat belts system checked, and if necessary replaced,by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

Airbags
The airbags have been designed to maximise
the safety of the occupants in the event of
violent collisions. They supplement the action
of the force-limiting seat belts. In this case, the electronic detectors record and analyse the front and side impacts suffered in
the impact detection zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the airbags are deployed instantaneously and protect
the occupants of the vehicle; immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidlyso that they do not hinder the visibility of
the occupants or their possible exit from
t
he vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact or rear impact and in cer tain roll-over conditions,
the airbags will not be deployed; the seat
belt alone is su
fficient to provide maximum protection in these situations.

The airbags do not operate whenthe ignition is off.
This equipment only operates once. If a
second impact occurs (during the sameor a subsequent accident), the airbagwill not operate.
The deployment of one or more airbags is accompanied by a slight discharge of harmless smoke and a noise, due to theactivation of the pyrotechnic cartridgeincorporated in the system. This smoke is not harmful, but sensitiveindividuals may experience some irritation.
The noise of the detonation may result in a slight loss of hearing for a shorttime.

Deployment

The airbags are deployed simultaneously,
unless the passenger's front airbag is
deactivated, in the event of a serious front
impact applied to all or par t of the front impact
z
one A , in the longitudinal centreline of the
vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed from
th
e front to the rear of the vehicle.
The front airbag inflates between the front
occupant of the vehicle and the dashboard to
cushion their forward movement. S
ystem which protects the head and chest of
the driver and front passenger in the event of
a front impact.
The driver's airbag is fitted in the centre of the steering wheel; the front passenger's airbag isfitted in the dashboard above the glove box.
