MONITORING

Warning lamp is on Cause Action/Observations

Front
foglamps ﬁ xed. The front foglamps are
switched on. Turn the ring on the stalk rearwards twice to switch
off the front foglamps.

Rear
foglamps ﬁ xed. The rear foglamps are
switched on. Turn the ring on the stalk rearwards to switch off
the rear foglamps.

Diesel engine
pre-heating ﬁ xed. The ignition switch is at the
2nd position (ignition on). Wait until the warning lamp has switched off befor
e starting.
The duration for which the warning lamp is on is d etermined
by the climatic conditions.

Parking brake ﬁ xed. The parking brake is applied
or not properly released. Release the parking brake to switch off the warnin
g
lamp, keeping your foot on the brake pedal.
Observe the safety recommendations.
For further information on the parking brake, refe r to
the "Driving" section.

Engine
coolant
temperature ﬁ xed blue . On starting the engine, it
indicates that the engine is
cold. After a few minutes driving, it swiches off to
indicate that the engine temperature is normal.
In order to protect your engine, avoid driving too
hard until the warning lamp has switched off.

Passenger's
airbag
system ﬁ xed. The control switch, located
at the passenger's end of
the dashboard, is in the

"
ON
" position.
The passenger's front airbag
is activated.
In this case, do not install a
rear-facing child seat. Turn the control switch to the
"
OFF
" position to
deactivate the front passenger's airbag.
In this case you can install a rear-facing child
seat.
The passenger's airbag system is automatically put
into service on starting the vehicle ( "
ON
" position).

Electric child
lock temporarily. The electric child lock is
activated. Displayed for a few seconds after activating the
function and every time the ignition is switched on
.
For more information, refer to the "Child safety"
section.

Deactivation indicator lamps
If one of the following indicator lamps comes on, this conﬁ rms that the corresponding system has bee n switched off intentionally.
This is may be accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction screen.

The passenger's front airbag
is deactivated.
In this case you can install a
"rear facing" child seat. Set the control switch to the
"
ON
" position to
activate the passenger's front airbag. In this case,
do not ﬁ t a child seat in the rear-facing position.
The passenger's airbag system is put into service
automatically when the vehicle is started ( "
ON
"
position).

ESP/ASR ﬁ xed. The button, located in the
middle of the dashboard, is
pressed. Its indicator lamp
is on.
The ESP/ASR is deactivated.
ESP: electronic stability pro-
gramme.
ASR: anti-skid regulation. Press the button to activate the ESP/ASR. Its
indicator lamp switches off.
The ESP/ASR system is activated automatically
when the vehicle is started.
If deactivated, the system is reactivated automati-
cally from approximately 30 mph (50 km/h).

COMFORT
The air conditioning system does
not contain chlorine and does not
present any danger to the ozone
layer.
In order for these systems to be fully effective, follow the g uidelines on opera-
tion and maintenance below:

 If the interior temperature remains very high after the vehicle has been
parked in the sun for a considerable time, ﬁ rst ventilate the passenger
compartment for a few minutes.
Place the air ﬂ ow control at a sufﬁ cient level to provide an adequate re-
newal of air in the passenger compartment.

 To obtain an even air distribution, take care not to obst ruct the exterior air
intake grilles located at the base of the windscreen, the n ozzles, the vents
and the air outlets, as well as the air extractor located in the passenger
compartment on both sides of the rear shelf.

 Do not cover the sunshine sensor, located on the dashboard (behind the
instrument panel); this is used for regulation of t he air conditioning system.

 Operate the air conditioning system for 5 to 10 minutes, on ce or twice a
month to keep it in good working order.

 Ensure that the passenger compartment ﬁ lter is in good condit ion and
have the ﬁ lter elements replaced regularly (refer to the "Checks" section).
We recommend the use of a combined passenger compa rtment ﬁ lter. Thanks
to its second special active ﬁ lter, it contributes to the puriﬁ cation of the air
breathed by the occupants and the cleanliness of th e passenger compart-
ment (reduction of allergic symptoms, bad odours an d greasy deposits).

 To ensure correct operation of the air conditioning system, you are also
advised to have it checked regularly.

 If the system does not produce cold air, do not use it and contact a
CITROËN dealer.
When towing the maximum load on a steep gradient in high temperatures,
switching off the air conditioning saves engine power and so improves towing
capacity.
The condensation created by the air conditioning results in a discharge of
water under the vehicle which is perfectly normal.

COMFORT As a safety precaution, do not car-
ry out any action on the cartridge
while driving.
Do not dismantle the cartridges.
Do not attempt to reﬁ ll the fragrance
diffuser or the cartridges.
Avoid all contact with the skin and
eyes.
Keep out of reach of children and
animals.
Leave the central vents open.
The intensity of diffusion of the fra-
grance may depend on the ventila-
tion or air conditioning settings.
SCENTED AIR FRESHENER
System permitting the diffusion of a fra-
grance in the passenger compartment
in accordance with your requirements,
by means of the adjustment dial and the
various fragrance cartridges available.
Fitting the cartridge

 Remove the cartridge from the
sealing case.

 Install the cartridge (ﬂ ower at top
right).

 Press the dial and turn it a quarter of
a turn clockwise.
Adjustment dial
This dial is located on the dashboard or
in the upper glove box.
It allows you to adjust the intensity of
diffusion of the fragrance.

 Turn the dial to the right to permit
diffusion of the fragrance.

 Turn the dial to the left to stop diffu-
sion of the fragrance. Fragrance cartridge
This cartridge can be removed easily.
You can change it at any time and store
it in the sealed case which keeps it
closed once it has been opened.
You can obtain different fragrance
cartridges from CITROËN dealers.
Removing the cartridge

 Press the dial and turn it a quarter of
a turn anti-clockwise.

 Remove the cartridge.

 Reﬁ t its sealing case.
Do not discard the original cartridge
as this serves as a plug when no
fragrance cartridge is in use.
In order to preserve the service
life of the cartridge, turn the dial to
the left when you no longer wish to
diffuse the fragrance in the passen-
ger compartment.

FITTINGS
To avoid any risk of jamming of the
pedals:
- only use mats which are suited to the ﬁ xings already present in
the vehicle; these ﬁ xings must
be used,
- never ﬁ t one mat on top of another.
The use of mats not approved
by CITROËN may interfere with
access to the pedals and hinder
the operation of the cruise control/
speed limiter.
MATS
Removable carpet protection. Refitting
To reﬁ t the mat on the driver's side:

 position the mat correctly,

 reﬁ t the ﬁ xings by pressing,

 check that the mat is secured cor-
rectly.
Fitting
When ﬁ tting the mat for the ﬁ rst time,
on the driver's side use only the ﬁ xings
provided in the wallet attached.
The other mats are simply placed on
the carpet.
Removal
To remove the mat on the driver's side:

 move the seat as far back as
possible,

 unclip the ﬁ xings,

 remove the mat.
TICKET HOLDER
It is located at the top of the dashboard
central panel.
It can be used to hold toll or parking
tickets.

The ESP/ASR systems offer excep-
tional safety in normal driving, but
this should not encourage the driver
to take extra risks or drive at high
speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
dations regarding the wheels (tyres
and rims), the braking components,
the electronic components and the
CITROËN assembly and operation
procedures.
After an impact, have these systems
checked by a CITROËN dealer.
Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (starting a vehi-
cle which is bogged down, stuck in snow,
on soft ground...), it may be advisable to
deactivate the ASR and ESP systems,
so that the wheels can move freely and
regain grip.
 Press the "ESP OFF" button, locat-
ed in the centre of the dashboard. If this warning lamp comes on in the instru-
ment panel and the indicator lamp on the
button comes on, this indicates that the
ASR and ESP systems are deactivated.
Reactivation
These systems are reactivated automat-
ically each time the ignition is switched
back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h).

 Press the "ESP OFF" button again
to reactivate them manually. Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction screen,
this indicates a malfunction of these
systems.
Have the systems checked by a CITROËN dealer.
TRAJECTORY CONTROL SYSTEMS
The anti-skid regulation (also known as
Traction Control) optimises traction to
prevent skidding of the wheels, by act-
ing on the brakes of the driving wheels
and on the engine.
The electronic stability programme acts
on the brake of one or more wheels and
on the engine to keep the vehicle on the
trajectory required by the driver, within
the limits of the laws of physics.
Anti-skid regulation (ASR) and electronic stability programme (ESP)
This is indicated by ﬂ ashing of
this warning lamp on the instru-
ment panel.
Activation
These systems are activated automati-
cally each time the vehicle is started.
They come into operation in the event
of a grip or trajectory problem.

AIRBAGS
Deployment of the airbag(s) is ac-
companied by a slight emission of
harmless smoke and a noise, due to
the activation of the pyrotechnic car-
tridge incorporated in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sen-
sitive individuals may experience
slight irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for
a short time.
Front airbags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous front impact in order to limit the risk
of injury to the head and chest.
The driver's airbag is ﬁ tted in the centre
of the steering wheel; the front passen-
ger's airbag is ﬁ tted in the dashboard
above the glove box.
Deployment
The airbags are deployed simultane-
ously, unless the passenger's front
airbag is deactivated, in the event of a
serious front impact applied to all or part
of the front impact zone A , in the lon-
gitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a
horizontal plane and directed from the
front to the rear of the vehicle.
The front airbag inﬂ ates between the
front occupant of the vehicle and the
dashboard to cushion their forward
movement.
Impact detection zones

A. Front impact zone.

B. Side impact zone.

The airbags do not operate when
the ignition is switched off.
This equipment will only deploy
once. If a second impact occurs
(during the same or a subsequent
accident), the airbag will not be de-
ployed again.
System designed to maximise the safety
of the occupants (with the exception of
the rear centre passenger) in the event
of violent collisions. It supplements the
action of the force-limiting seat belts
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger).
If a collision occurs, the electronic de-
tectors record and analyse the front and
side impacts sustained in the impact
detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the
airbags are deployed instantly and
protect the occupants of the vehicle
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger); immediately after the
impact, the airbags deﬂ ate rapidly
so that they do not hinder visibility
or the exit of the occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact or in certain roll-over conditions, the
airbags will not be deployed; the
seat belt alone is sufﬁ cient to pro-
vide optimum protection in these
situations.

For the airbags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.
Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (a child,
pet, object...). This could hamper the
operation of the airbags or injure the
occupants. Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resti
ng your hands on
the centre part of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard.
If possible, do not smoke as deployment of the airbags can cau se burns or the
risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe.
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the seats. These will not hinder i nﬂ ation of the
lateral airbags. Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Do not ﬁ x or attach anything to the seat backs (clothing... ). This could cause
injury to the chest or arms if the lateral airbag is deployed.
Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to the door than
necessary.
Curtain airbags
Do not ﬁ x or attach anything to the roof. This could cause injury to the head if
the curtain airbag is deployed.
Do not remove the grab handles installed on the ro of, they play a part in securing
the curtain airbags.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strictly
forbidden unless it is carried out by
qualiﬁ ed personnel of the CITROËN
dealer network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
tioned are observed, a risk of injury
or of minor burns to the head, chest
or arms when an airbag is deployed
cannot be ruled out. The bag inﬂ ates
almost instantly (within a few millisec-
onds) then deﬂ ates within the same
time discharging the hot gas via open-
ings provided for this purpose.
