When you switch on the ignition, the instrument panel displays :
- maintenance indicator,
- the engine oil level indicator,
- the total mileage recoder,
- then the trip mileage recoder.
Engine oil level indicator
When you switch on the ignition, the maintenance indicator is displayed for a few seconds (see «Maintenance Indicator») then the engine o il level is also displayed for a few seconds.
Note : to make sure that the measurement is reliable, check the oil leve l on horizontal ground, with the engine having been stopped for at least 15 minutes.
This display indicates normal operation.
A fl ashing of «OIL» indicates that the oil level is below minimum.
Check with the manual dipstick. See «Levels».
If the low level is confi rmed, top the level up.

Air fi lter
Follow the instructions given in the Maintenance Guide.
If intervening under the bonnet when the engine is hot, even when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switched off, be aware that the cooling fan could operate at any time.
Check the engine oil level frequently between each routine service visit, as well as before starting long journeys.
Engine coolant
The coolant level should be between the MIN. and MAX. marks on the expan-sion chamber.
If the engine is hot, wait 15 minutes for it to cool down.

Never intervene on the cooling system of an engine that is hot(See "Levels").
12V battery
See “Emergency starting with a slave battery”.
Engine oil
Check the oil level with the vehicle parked on horizon-tal ground, with the engine having been switched off for at least 15 minutes.
Quality : See the Maintenance Guide. Brake fl uid
The brake fl uid level should be between the MIN. and MAX. marks on the reservoir.
Should the warning lamp come on while you are driving, stop imme-diately and contact a CITROËN while you are driving, stop imme-while you are driving, stop imme-

This fl uid should be changed peri-odically. If the fl uid is too old it can lead to a loss of effi ciency.
Pull out the manual dip-stick.
The level should be be-tween the MIN. and MAX. marks on the gauge.
It must never exceed the maximum.
