Follow the instructions given in the
Maintenance Guide.
If intervening under the bonnet when the engine is hot, e ven when the vehicle is stationary and the
ignition switched off, be aware that the cooling fan could operate at any time.
Check the engine oil level frequently between each routi ne service visit,
as well as before starting long journeys.
Engine coolant
The coolant level should
be between the
MIN. and
MAX. marks on the expan-
sion chamber.
If the engine is hot, wait 15 minutes
for it to cool down.
Quality : See the Maintenance
Guide.

Engine oil
Check the oil level with the
vehicle parked on horizon-
tal ground, with the engine
having been switched off for at
least 15 minutes.
Quality : See the Maintenance Guide. Brake fluid
The brake fluid level should

Checking the level and topping-
up with coolant should always be
done with the engine cold.
Engine hot
Wait fifteen minutes or for the
engine temperature to fall below
100°C, then slowly undo the cap
to allow the pressure to drop, pro-
tecting yourself with a cloth for
example. Topping up the engine oil
Take out the dipstick before filling.
Check the level after filling.
The maximum mark must never
be exceeded.
Do up the cap before closing the
bonnet.
Quality :
See the Maintenance

Note : for vehicles with a particle
filter, the cooling fan can operate
as long as ten minutes after the
engine has stopped.
If intervening under the bonnet when the engine is hot, e ven
when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switched off, be
aware that the cooling fan could operate at any time.
The coolant level should be be-
tween the
MIN. and MAX. marks
on the expansion chamber.
Top up the level. If you have to add
more than 1 litre, have the cooling
system checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
Ensure that the cap is securely on.
Note : The need to top up frequently
indicates a malfunction which should
be checked out as soon as possible

- Then action the starter, gently pressing the accelerator unti l the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start at the first attempt, wait 15 second s before trying again.
If the engine fails to start after a few attempts, repeat the procedure from the beginning. When the engine is idli ng,

Emergency starting with a slave battery
A vehicle with a discharged battery can be started with
either a slave battery or the battery of another vehicle.
A
Discharged battery on broken-down vehicle
(under the bonnet).
B Slave battery
C Earth point on broken-down vehicle.
Check that the emergency battery is correctly charged up
(12 volts).
If you are using the battery on another vehicle, stop the
engine of the assisting vehicle. The two vehicles must not
come into direct contact with each other.
Never apply a flame or create sparks close to the battery (explosive gas).
The battery contains diluted sulphuric acid which i s highly corrosive.
If ever you are handling the battery, protect your eyes a nd face.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse immediatel y with
copious amounts of fresh water.
For
any battery replacement, contact a CITROËN dealer.
Advice
Do not touch the cable clamps
during the procedure.
Do not lean over the batteries.
Disconnect the cables in the re-
verse order to connection, ensuring
that they do not touch each other.
Connect the cables in the
order indicated in the diagram. Make sure that the clamps are properl y secured
(risk of sparks).
Start the engine of the assisting vehicle. Let the engine run for about a minute at a slightly accelerated speed.
Start the engine of the assisted vehicle.
Note : For any operation necessitating a disconnection of the batte ry, you should wait three minutes after switch-
ing off the ignition, without taking any action which w ould prevent the vehicle’s electrical circuit from going to sleep
(such as operating the doors and tailgate or the remote control , etc.).
After a disconnection and reconnection of the battery, when you switch on the ignition, wait for approximately one
minute before operating the starter motor in order to allow t he electronic systems to reinitialise. Following a pro-
longed disconnection of the battery, it may be necessary to rei nitialise the parameters of the multifunction display
(date, time, language, units of distance and of temperature ).

Fuseboxes
There are two fuseboxes under the dashboard, one fusebox in t he
engine compartment and another on the battery.
Fuses under the dashboard
To access the fuses under the dashboard, undo the screw by a
quarter turn and pivot the housing.
Changing a fuse
Before replacing a fuse, it is essential to find the cause of the in -
cident and to have it rectified. The fuse identification numbers are
indicated inside the fusebox.
Replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating
(the same colour)
Use the special tool A that is provided in the fuse housing flap,
which also contains spare fuses.
