The recharge for the air freshener
consists of a cartridge B and its
sealed container C .

 Remove the protective fi lm D .

 Place the head of the cartridge B on
the button A of the air freshener.

 Rotate it a quarter turn to lock
it on the button and remove the
container.

 Insert the air freshener into its
housing.
You can change cartridges at any
time, keeping the used cartridges in
their original containers. The air freshener button
A is inde-
pendent of the cartridge. Cartridges
are supplied without the air freshen-
er button A .
The button of the air freshener A can
only be fi xed into the central dash-
board with a cartridge attached.
Therefore always keep the air fresh-
ener button A and one cartridge.
Recharges are available, depending
on country, either on the Internet site
or from a CITROËN dealer.
Stowage points are provided in the
glovebox for storing of cartridges
and containers. For safety, use only cartridges that
are provided for this purpose.
Retain the containers for the stor-
age of used cartridges.
Do not attempt to take cartridges
apart.
Never recharge the cartridges
with fragrances not supplied by
CITROËN.
Keep them out of reach of children
and animals.
Avoid all contact with the skin and
with the eyes.
In the event of swallowing, consult
a doctor and show him the product
packaging or label.
Do not install or remove a cartridge
while you are driving.

Special position of
the windscreen wipers
In the minute following switching off
of the ignition, any action on the stalk
positions the wipers in the centre of
the windscreen.
This action enables you to position
the wiper blades for winter parking,
cleaning or replacement.
To park the wipers after this has
been done, switch on the ignition
and operate the stalk. For optimum and lasting wiping of
the "fl at-blade" wiper blades, it is
advisable to:
- handle them with care,
- clean them regularly using soapy water,
- change them approximately every 6 months,

In this position, the courtesy
lamp comes on gradually: Permanently off.
Permanent lighting.
In permanent lighting mode, differ-
ent lighting times are available:
- with the ignition off, approxi- mately ten minutes,
- in energy economy mode, ap- proximately thirty seconds,
-
with the engine running, unlimited.
- when the vehicle is unlocked,
- when a door or the boot is opened,
- when the key is removed from the ignition,
- when the remote control locking button is activated, in order to lo-
cate your vehicle. It switches off gradually:
- when the vehicle is locked,
- when the ignition is switched on,
- 30 seconds after the last door is
closed.

 With the ignition on, press the
corresponding switch.

These courtesy lamps have two op-
erating modes:
- automatic lighting when a door is opened or when the front cour-
tesy lamp is in the "permanent

To change to automatic mode, move
the selector to A .
Manual mode

Manual mode activates when you
move the selector to M .

 Pull the paddle " + " to change up
a gear.

 Pull the paddle " - " to change
down a gear.
When the engine is running,
before accelerating to move
the vehicle, make sure that
the position engaged on the
selector grille or in the instrument
panel is either: R , A or M
Do not leave the vehicle with the
engine running in R , A or M . Operation in automatic mode

 Move the selector to
position A . The warning
lamp A lights up in the
instrument panel to con-
fi rm the selection.
The gearbox then functions in auto-
matic mode, without any action on
your part.
It constantly selects the gear that is
best suited to the following condi-
tions:
- driving style,
- road profi le,
- optimum fuel consumption. By pulling either of the paddles "
+ "
or " - ", you can exercise temporary
control over the changing of gears.
The request to change gear will be
taken into account. You will still be
in automatic mode. The warning
lamp A remains lit up in the instru-
ment panel.
This function enables you to antici-
pate certain situations such as the
approach of a bend or the need to
overtake another vehicle.
Cancellation of automatic
mode
The change from position A (dri-
ving in automatic mode) to position

M (driving in manual mode) or vice
versa can be made at any time. The
warning lamp A disappears in the in-
strument panel.

Position of the selector for manual
gear changing.
 Move the selector to po-
sition M .
 Pull the lever " + " to change up a
gear.

 Pull the lever " - " to change down
a gear.
- If the vehicle stops or reduces speed (for example when ap-
proaching a stop sign), the gear-
box changes down automatically
to fi rst gear.
- In sequential mode, it is not nec- essary to release the accelerator
during gear changes.
- A request to change gear is ac- cepted only if the engine speed
permits it. - For safety reasons, depending
on the engine speed, a change
up or down may be performed
automatically.
- It is possible at any time to move from position D (driving in auto-
matic mode) to position M (driv-
ing in sequential mode) or vice
versa.
The fl ashing of the warn-
ing lamp for the position
requested signals that this
position is not yet obtained.
If the warning lamp is on fi xed, the
position is confi rmed.
Display of a dash in the rev counter
indicates a malfunction. Consult a
CITROËN dealer.
Lighting of the service warning
lamp accompanied by a message
and a sound signal indicates a
functioning anomaly. In this case:
- a marked snatching may be felt when selecting R for reverse
gear,
- the gearbox is locked on a gear,
- do not exceed a speed of 100 km/h (approx. 60 mph).

CHECKS
Unless otherwise indicated, check
these components in accordance
with the Maintenance and Warranty
Guide and according to your en-
gine.
Otherwise, have them checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Battery The battery does not re-
quire any maintenance.
However, check that the
terminals are clean and
correctly tightened, par-
ticularly in summer and
winter.
When carrying out work on the bat-
tery, refer to the "Practical infor-
mation" section for details of the
precautions to be taken before dis-
connecting the battery and following
its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Refer to the Maintenance
and Warranty Guide for
details of the replacement
intervals for these compo-
nents.
Depending on the environment (e.g.
dusty atmosphere) and the use of
the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace
them twice as often if necessary
(refer to the "Engines" paragraph).
A clogged cabin fi lter may have an
adverse effect on the performance
of the air conditioning system and
generate undesirable odours.
Oil filter
Replace the oil fi lter each
time the engine oil is
changed. Particulate filter system
(Diesel)
Complementary to the catalytic
converter, this fi lter makes an ac-
tive contribution to the preservation
of air quality by the retaining of the
unburnt pollutant particles. Black
exhaust fumes are thus no longer
emitted.
After prolonged idling or driving at very
low speeds, you may occasionally no-
tice water vapour being emitted from
the exhaust when accelerating. This is
of no consequence to the running of
the vehicle or to the environment.
If there is risk of clogging, a mes-
sage appears on the multifunction
screen, accompanied by an audi-
ble signal and lighting of the serv-
ice warning lamp.
This alert tells you that the particle
fi lter is starting to fi ll up (in conditions
of urban driving of exceptionally long
duration: low speeds, traffi c jams
etc.)
To regenerate the fi lter, it is advised
to drive as soon as possible, when
traffi c conditions permit, at a speed
of 40 mph (around 60 km/h) or
more for at least fi ve minutes (until
the alert message disappears).
If this alert persists, consult a
CITROËN dealer.
