Using the RDS (radio data system) function on FM
The majority of FM radio stations use the RDS system. The radio in your vehicle has this system.
The RDS system enables these s t a t i o n s t o t r a n s m i t n o n - a u d i b l e data in addition to the broadcasting o f t h e i r p r o g r a m m e s . T h e d a t a p r o -vides access to various functions described in this chapter, such as: d i s p l a y o f t h e s t a t i o n n a m e , i n t e r - m i t t e n t t r a f fi c i n f o r m a t i o n fl a s h e s or automatic scanning of stations. T h i s e n a b l e s y o u t o c o n t i n u e l i s -tening to your chosen radio station, r e g a r d l e s s o f t h e d i f f e r e n t f r e q u e n -cies it uses in the regions through which you are travelling.
Scanning of RDS stations
Your radio keeps the best possible reception by continuously looking for any other frequencies on which t h e s e l e c t e d r a d i o s t a t i o n i s b r o a d -cast, automatically choosing the f r e q u e n c y o f f e r i n g t h e b e s t r e c e p -tion (if the station broadcasts on m o r e t h a n o n e t r a n s m i t t e r o r f r e -quency).

Activation/deactivation of the RDS functions
The RDS functions can be accessed via the following two menus:Main menu (press button O).
AUDIO menu (press button L).
To activate/deactivate the RDS functions
1. Press on button O.2. Select the AUDIO icon using buttons J or M.3. C o n fi r m y o u r c h o i c e w i t h a press on button L.4. S e l e c t t h e s u b - m e n u f o r t h e F M waveband, via buttons J or M. C o n fi r m y o u r c h o i c e w i t h a press on button L.5. S e l e c t s c a n n i n g f o r R D S s t a -tions, via buttons J or M.6. Validate your choice with a press on button L.7. Using control L, select/deselect t o a c t i v a t e / d e a c t i v a t e t h e f u n c -tion.8. V a l i d a t e y o u r c h o i c e b y s e l e c t -ing “OK” on the display.

Selecting CD source
After inserting a CD, with the printed side facing upwards, the player will start playing the CD automatically.
To change manually to CD source ( C D a l r e a d y i n s e r t e d ) , p r e s s b u t -ton D until you obtain the source you require.
Ejecting a CD
Press button B to eject the CD, the audio system will automatically switch to radio source.
I f t h e C D i s n o t r e m o v e d w i t h i n 1 0 t o 1 5 s e c o n d s o f b e i n g e j e c t e d , i t will automatically be taken back into the CD player, although it will not be played.
Selecting a track
Press button K once to play the next track.
Press button N once to return to the beginning of the track currently being played, press a second time t o g o b a c k t o t h e s t a r t o f t h e p r e v i -ous track.
Press the buttons successively to skip several tracks at a time.
Y o u c a n a l s o p e r f o r m t h i s o p e r a -tion using button G or button 9 at the steering wheel.
When the track listing is displayed, s e l e c t t h e d e s i r e d t r a c k u s i n g b u t -tons J or M t h e n v a l i d a t e w i t h b u t -ton L.

Fast forward and rapid reverse with accelerated sound
To move swiftly through the CD, press and keep pressed button Kor N, respectively for fast forward or rapid reverse with accelerated sound.
Y o u c a n a l s o d o t h i s v i a t h e c o n -trols 7 and 8 at the steering wheel.
Play resumes as normal when the button is released.
Menu
T h i s m e n u a l l o w s a c t i v a t i o n / d e a c -tivation of two options: P l a y b a c k o f t h e fi r s t 7 s e c o n d s (approx.) of each track of the CD.
Random playback of the CD tracks.
This can be accessed in two ways:Either by pressing button O a n d p r o c e e d i n g a s f o r S c a n - n i n g o f R D S s t a t i o n s – t h e s u b -menu for Audio Preferences.
Or, provided you are in CD s o u r c e , b y p r e s s i n g o n b u t -ton L. You can then access the Audio menu.
Note: If one of these options is active, it remains active for CD changer source.

MP3 CDs
T h e M P 3 f o r m a t ( M P E G 1 , 2 & 2 , 5 A u d i o L a y e r 3 ) i s a n a u d i o c o m -pression standard that permits r e c o r d i n g o f 1 0 t i m e s a s m a n y m u s i c a l fi l e s o n o n e C D .
Y o u r r a d i o o n l y p l a y s b a c k fi l e s which have the extension “.mp3”. O t h e r t y p e s o f fi l e s ( . w a v , . m p g 4 , .ogg, midi...) cannot be played back.
When you insert an MP3 CD, the radio searches all the musical tracks. Playback may require some tens of seconds before starting.

Burning format
Some burnt CDs cannot be read by your equipment (quality, speed of recording, etc.).
W h e n y o u b u r n a C D - R o r C D - R W , select the burning standard ISO 9 6 6 0 l e v e l 1 . 2 o r J o l i e t . P l a y b a c k o f o t h e r f o r m a t s m a y n o t o c c u r c o r -rectly.
Use the Joliet standard to burn m u l t i - s e s s i o n C D s .
On a given CD, always use the same burning standard.
T o o b t a i n t h e b e s t p o s s i b l e a c o u s - t i c q u a l i t y , s e l e c t t h e l o w e s t b u r n -ing speed.
It can handle transmission speeds o f 8 t o 3 2 0 k b i t s / s a n d p l a y b a c k o f 2 2 . 0 5 t o 4 4 . 1 k H z .
M P 3 C D S O U R C E
MP3 CD player
Your Audio CD system may be MP3 compatible.
As you insert a CD recorded in MP3 format, playback starts of the fi r s t s o n g o f t h e fi r s t C D - c o v e r .
You can select a particular track by using buttons N or K a n d C D - c o v -ers using buttons J or M.
To select a track
T o d i s p l a y t h e l i s t o f C D - c o v e r s , press on button G.
Use buttons J or M to select the C D - c o v e r y o u w i s h t o l i s t e n t o .
T o o p e n a C D - c o v e r , p r e s s L.
Use buttons N or K to select the track you wish to listen to.
Validate with a press on L.

To restore sound, press on one of the buttons on your NaviDrive, or on one of the controls on the steering wheel.

Hold down one of the buttons 1 to 6 on the alphanumeric keypad to choose the CD that you wish to play back.
1. Press on button B or rotate the control on the steering wheel C upwards to listen to the next CD.2. Press on button A or rotate the control on Athe steering wheel C downwards to listen to the previous CD.Note: Playback of the star t of the CD is automatic.After each change of source, on return to CD changer source, playback will resume at the same point where it had been interrupted.
