This operation should only be
performed while the vehicle is

To release the bonnet, pull the con-
trol located under the dashboardtowards you.
Lift the leverA located under the bonnet close to the centre, then pull.
To close
Lower the bonnet carefully, then let it drop shut.
When the engine is hot, handle the lever A with care(risk of burns).
Check that the bonnet is properly secured.

Engine oil
Check the engine oil level on

It is normal to top up the engine oilbetween two services. The manu-facturer recommends that the oil bechecked and topped up if necessaryevery 3 000 miles (5 000 Km).

Between routine servicing visits, check the level of engine oil frequently as well as before going on a longjourney.

TOPPING UP ENGINE OIL
Before fi lling, pull out the dipstick.
Check the dipstick after fi lling.
It must never exceed the maximum.
Screw the cap back on and close
the bonnet.

RADIATOR – COOLANT FLUID
Checking the level and topping up
with fl uid must always be done with
the engine cold.
Engine hot
Wait 15 minutes or for the tempe-
rature to be lower than 100 °C and
then carefully unscrew the cap so as
to allow the pressure to drop, pro-
tectin
g yourself with, for example, a cloth.
Topping up the coolant
The level of coolant1 should bebetween theMIN.and MAX.mar-kings on the header tank.
To
p up the level. If more than 1 litre
is added, have the cooling systemchecked by a CITROËN dealer or ,gy
a qualifi ed workshop.
Make sure that the cap is back
on properly.Note:If you need to top up the fl uid frequently, this indicates a malfunc-tion which you should get checked
at the earliest opportunity.
Remark: The cooling fan mayoperate for around 10 minutesafter the engine has stopped.

12 V BATTERY
STARTING THE ENGINE WITH AN ASSISTING BATTERY
If the battery is discharged, it is possible to use either
a separate emergency battery or a battery on another
vehicle.
If you use the battery on another vehicle, stop the engine on the latter. The two vehicles must not come
into direct contact with each other.
Check that the assisting battery has suffi cient voltage (12 V).
Connect the cables according to the orderindicated in rthe diagram.
A Pole "+" on the vehicle being assisted (under the
red cover).
B Assisting battery.C Pole"-" on the assisted vehicle (under the bonnet).
Check that the leads are well secured (risk of sparks).
Start the engine of the assisting vehicle. Let the engine
run for around 1 minute at a slightly accelerated idle.
Operate the starter on the vehicle being assisted.
It is essential to follow the indicated sequencecorrectly.
Never approach with a fl ame or create sparks in the vicinity of the battery (explosive gas).
The battery contains dilute sulphuric acid which is highly corrosive.
When handling batteries, always protect your face and especially your eyes.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse immediately with copious amounts of fresh water.
ADVICE
Do not touch the leads during the operation.
Do not lean over the batteries.
Disconnect the cables in reverse order, making sure
they do not touch together.

TOWING WITH WHEELS ON THE GROUND
Towing eyes can be used at the front and at the rear of the vehicle.
Detach the cover:For the front cover, lever with a screwdriver at the top of the cover.
For the rear cover, press on the right hand side.
The ignition key must be in position M to retain steering.
Use a bar with attachments to the towing eyes as above.
The towing eye is removable, to be stowed in the jack protection box inside
the spare wheel.

Towingat low speed over a veryshort distanceis authorised inexceptional cases depending on
the regulations in force.
Otherwise, it is necessary to
have
your vehicle transportedon a recovery truck.
It is essential to check that theelectric parking brake is released.
REQUIREMENT - TOWING
WITH AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Place the selector on position N(neutral).
When the engine is not running, the steering and the braking are no longer assisted.
If you are towing another vehicle, the latter must be free-wheeling (gearbox in neutral).
Towing with "front or rear lifted"or in the "minimum height"position is prohibited.
