Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (starting a vehicle
which is bogged down, stuck in snow, on softground...), it may be advisable to deactivate the ASR and ESP systems, so that the wheels can
move freely and regain grip. )Press the "ESP OFF"button, located on
the left below the steering wheel.

If this warnin
g lamp comes on in the
instrument panel and the indicator
lamp in the button comes on, this
indicates that the ASR and ESP
systems are deactivated.

Reactivation

These systems are reactivated automatically each time the ignition is switched back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h) except 1.6 litre (THP 150, THP 155 and THP 160) and
RACING petrol engines. )
Press the "ESP OFF"
button again to
reactivate them manually.

Operating fault

The ESP/ASR systems offer exceptional safety in normal driving, butthis should not encourage the driver to take extra risks or drive at high speed.
The correct functioning of these systems depends on obser vation of themanufacturer's recommendations on:

- wheels (tyres and rims),

- braking components,

- electronic components,

- assembly and repair procedures.
After an impact, have these systems checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

If this warning lamp comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and amessage in the multifunction screen, this
indicates a mal
function of these systems. Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

Safety
Seat belts

Front seat belts

The front seat belts are fitted with apretensioning and force limiting system.
This system improves safety in the frontseats in the event of a front or side impact.
Dependin
g on the severity of the impact, thepretensioning system instantly tightens the seat
belts against the body of the occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active when
the i
gnition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure of the
seat belt on the chest of the occupant, so
improving their protection.Fastening
) Pull the strap, then inser t the tongue in thebuckle. )
Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap.

Unfastening
)
Press the red button on the buckle. )
Guide the seat belt as it is reeled in.

Seat belt not fastened/unfastened warning lamp
When the ignition is switched on,
this warning lamp comes on in the
instrument panel, if the driver and/or thefront passenger has not fastened their seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)
this warning lamp flashes for two minutes
accompanied by an audible signal of increasingvolume. Once these two minutes have elapsed,
this warning lamp remains on until the driver and/or the front passenger fastens their seat belt.

Airbags
System designed to maximise the safety of the
occupants (with the exception of the rear centrepassenger) in the event of violent collisions.
It supplements the action of the force-limiting
seat belts (with the exception of the rear centrepassenger).
If a collision occurs, the electronic detectors record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the airbagsare deployed instantly and protect the
occupants of the vehicle (with the exception
of the rear centre passenger); immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidlyso that they do not hinder visibility or the
exit of the occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact or incer tain roll-over conditions, the airbags
will not be deployed; the seat belt alone is
sufficient to provide optimum protection in
th
ese situations.
The airbags do not operate when theignition is switched off. This equipment will only deploy once.If a second impact occurs (during the same or a subsequent accident), the airbag will not be deployed again.

Impact detection zones
A.Front impact zone.
B.Side impact zone.
Deployment of the airbag(s) is
accompanied by a slight emissionof harmless smoke and a noise, dueto the activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sensitive individuals may experience slightirritation.
The noise of the detonation may result in a slight loss of hearing for a shor t time.

Deactivation
Only the passenger's front airbag can be deactivated:)with the ignition off, inser t the key in thefpassenger airbag deactivation switch, )turn it to the "OFF"position,)then, remove the key keeping the switch in
the new position.
This warnin
g lamp comes on in the
instrument panel when the ignition is
on and until the airbag is re-activated.
To assure the safety of your child, the passenger's front airbag mustbe deactivated when you install a "rear facing" child seat on the front passenger seat. Other wise, the child would risk beingseriously injured or killed if the airbag were deployed.

Reactivation

When you remove a child seat that has been
fitted "rear wards facing", turn switch to the
"ON"
position to re-activate the airbag and so
assure the safety of your front passenger in theevent of an impact.
With the i
gnition on, this warning lampcomes on in the instrument panel for approximately one minute, if thepassenger's front airbag is activated.

Operating fault
If this warning lamp flashes, contact
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
workshop. The passen
ger's front
airbag may no longer be deployed in the event
of a serious impact.
If at least one of the two airbag
warning lamps come on continuously, do not install a child seat on the front passenger seat.
Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
If this warnin
g lamp comes on in the instrument panel, accompanied byan audible warning and a message in
the multifunction screen, contact a CITROËN
dealer or qualified workshop to have thesystem checked. The airbags may no longer be
deployed in the event of a serious impact.

Driving

Operating fault
With the ignition on, if this warninglamp comes on and AUTOflashes,
accompanied by an audible signal and a
message in the multifunction screen, this
indicates a gearbox fault. Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

Reinitialisation
(5-speed electronic
gearbox)
In exceptional circumstances, thegearbox may need an automatic reinitialisation: starting and gear changing are no longer possible.
AUTO
and - -appear in theinstrument panel. AUTO

and - -
appear in the instrument panel.
)Select position N.)Press the brake pedal.)Wait for around 30 seconds until Nor a gear appears in the instrument panel. )Move the gear lever to position A, then toposition N . )With your foot still on the brake pedal, start
the engine.
The gearbox is operational again. Followin
g disconnection of the battery, it is necessary to reinitialise the gearbox. )Switch on the ignition.
Follow the procedure described above.

169Driving

Manual operation
Ddisappears and the gears engaged appear in succession on the
instrument panel.
If the en
gine speed is too low or
too high, the gear selected flashes for a fewseconds, then the actual gear engaged isdisplayed.
It is possible to change from position D(automatic) to position M
(manual) at any time.
When the vehicle is stationary or moving
ver
y slowly, the gearbox selects gear M1automatically.
The spor t and snow programmes do not
operate in manual mode.
Invalid value during manualoperation
)Select position M for sequential
changing
of the four gears. )Push the lever towards the + sign
to change up a gear.)Pull the lever towards the - sign to changedown a gear.
It is only possible to change from one gear to
another if the vehicle speed and engine speedpermit; other wise, the gearbox will operate
temporarily in automatic mode. This s
ymbol is displayed if a gear
is not engaged correctly (selector
between two positions).
Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you can
engage position Por Nto place the gearbox inneutral.
In both cases, apply the parking brake to
immobilise the vehicle. When the i
gnition is on, the lighting
of this warning lamp, accompanied
by an audible signal and a message in the
multifunction screen, indicates a gearbox fault.
In this case, the gearbox switches to back-up
mode and is locked in 3rd gear. You may feel
a substantial knock when changing from Pto R
and from N
to R
. This will not cause any
damage to the gearbox.
Do not exceed 60 mph (10 0 km/h), local speed
restrictions permitting.
Contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
wor
kshop as soon as possible.

Operating fault
If the lever is not in position P,P
when the driver's door is opened or approximately 45 seconds after the ignition is switched off, a message appears in the multifunction screen. )Return the lever to position P
; the message disappears.

There is a risk of damage to thegearbox:

- if you press the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time,

- if you force the movement of the gear lever from the Pposition to another position when the battery is flat.
To r e d u c e fuel consumption when at a prolonged standstill with the enginerunning (traffic jam...), put the gear lever in the Nposition and apply the parking brake.

Stop & Start The Stop & Start system puts the engine temporarily into standby - STOP mode - during stops in the traffic (red lights, traffic jams, or other...).
The engine restar ts automatically - START mode - as soon as you want to move off. The restar t takes place instantly, quickly and silently.
Per
fect for urban use, the Stop & Start system reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emissions as well as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
Going into engine STOP mode
For your comfor t, during parkingmanoeuvres, STOP mode is not available for a few seconds after coming out of reverse gear.STOP mode does not affect the functionality of the vehicle, such as for example, braking, power steering...
Never refuel with the engine in STOPmode; you must switch off the ignition with the key. Th
e "ECO"warning lamp comes
on in the instrument panel and the engine goes into standby:
- with a manual gearbox
, at speeds below
12 mph (20 km/h), when you put the gear lever into neutral, and you release theclutch pedal. -with a 5 or 6-speed electronic gearbox ,
at speeds below 5 mph (8 km/h), when you press the brake pedal or put the gear lever in position N.
A time counter calculates the sum
of the periods in STOP mode
during a journey. It rests itself
to zero every time the ignition is switched on with the key.
STOP mode is not invoked when:

- the driver's door is open,

- the driver's seat belt is not fastened,

- the vehicle has not exceeded 6 mph(10 km/h) since the last engine star t using
the key,

- the engine is needed to maintain acomfortable temperature in the passenger compartment,

- demisting is active,

- some special conditions (battery charge, engine temperature, braking assistance, ambient temperature...) where the engine isneeded to assure control of a system.

Special cases: STOP mode not available

The "ECO"warning lamp flashes for
a few seconds then goes off.
This operation is per fectly normal.
