Overspeed alert
Function for monitoring the maximum desired speed (see “message
display”). If the programmed speed is exceeded, you see the m es-
sage “PROG SPEED ***MPH” accompanied by an audible signal.
• If the display reads “OVERSPEED WARNING INACTIVE”, a short press on the end of the control will return you to the
main screen, otherwise a long press on the end of the control will activate the functionand the display will read
“OVERSPEED WARNING ACTIVE”.
To memorise or modify the warning speed , a short press on the end of the control will bring the display “PROG
SPEED”: as soon as the vehicle reaches the desired speed this can be memorised by giving a long press on the end
of the control.
• If the display reads “OVERSPEED WARNING ACTIVE”, a short pr ess of the button on the end of the control will dis-
play “PROG SPEED”, and the speed can be modified as described above.
• To deactivate the function, give a long press on the end of th e control when the display shows “OVERSPEED WARN-
ING ACTIVE”. This is possible only if you are below the warnin g speed.
To reset the trip computer to zero , press and hold down the control for
more than three seconds.
Resetting to zero is not possible in overspeed warning mode.
If the battery has been disconnected, all the display segmen ts and symbols are shown when it is reconnected.
If the horizontal segments appear instead of the figures whe n driving, contact your CITROËN dealer.

The maintenance indicator informs you when the next serviceis due,
in conformity with the servicing programme detailed in the v ehicle's
Maintenance Guide. This information is determined as a func tion of
two parameters: the mileage travelled and the time elapsed s ince the
previous service.
Operation
On switching on the ignition, the maintenance indicator spa nner appears in
the display for several seconds; the mileage recorder displ ay indicates how
many miles remain to be travelled before the next service is d ue.
The next service is not yet due.
For example:you have the following distance left to travel
before the next service: 1 800 km.
For five seconds on switching on the ignition, the display
shows
Five seconds after switching on the ignition, the total mile age
recorder reverts to normal operation and the total or trip
mileages appear on the display.
The pre- set service distance has been exceeded.
Each time you switch on the ignition, the maintenance symbol and mileage
covered beyond the recommended service interval flash for a short time.
For example: the pre- set service distance has been ex-
ceeded by 300 miles. Your vehicle must be serviced as
soon as possible.
For five seconds on switching on the ignition, the display
shows
A few seconds after you have switched on the ignition, the
total mileage recorder returns to its normal operation and
the maintenance symbol remains illuminated . The total
or trip mileages appear on the display. Resetting the maintenance in-
dicator to zero
Your CITROËN dealer performs
this operation after each serv-
ice. However, if you carry out
the servicing yourself, the pro-
cedure for resetting to zero is
as follows:
- Switch off the ignition.
- Press and hold down button C
.
- Switch on the ignition.
- The distance remaining until the next service flashes.
- Keep button Cpressed until the
display shows “=0”and the main-
tenance key disappears.
The time limit between services
has been reached.
If the maximum recommended pe-
riod of time between two services is
reached before the recommended
distance travelled is reached, the
maintenance symbol will flash, and
the distance travelled since the rec-
ommended service date will ap-
pear in the display for five seconds.

The position of the gear selector is
displayed on the instrument panel.
Automatic gearbox, for safety:
• The gear lever cannot be disengaged from position P unless t he
brake pedal is pressed.
• On opening of the driver’s door, with the ignition key remov ed, an audi-
ble signal sounds if the gear lever is not in position Por N.
• Before leaving the vehicle, make absolutely certain that th e PARK orP
position is selected.

The engine can only be started when the lever is at position P or N.
A safety device ensures that starting is impossible in the ot her positions.
After starting the engine, with selector on P, depress the brake pedal to quit
this position, - shift the selector to D,R or M,
- D for automatic,
- R for reverse,
- M for manual operation.
A shift from D(automatic) to M(manual) is possible at any time.
Using the automatic gearbox Park
Do not engage until the vehicle is completely stationary. To avoid any movement of the vehicle when
parked, select position P and apply the handbrake firmly. Check that the selector is in thePposition to ensure that
the driving wheels are locked.
- Never select positionNif the vehicle is moving.
- Never select positions Por Rif the vehicle is not completely stationary.

Reverse gear
Engage only when stationary and with the footbrake firmly ap plied. To avoid any transmission snatch or harshness,
wait several seconds before pressing the accelerator.
Neutral
Do not select this position, even momentarily, when the vehi cle is in motion.
Drive:
Position for normal use. The four forward gears are selected automatically. For maximum acceleration (overtaking, for
example) press the accelerator pedal fully down to make the g earbox change to a lower gear.
Note
When braking, the gearbox changes down automatically to giv e effective engine braking.
If you suddenly lift your foot off the accelerator, in the int erest of safety the gearbox will not change to a higher gear.
Sequential forward drive
Selector position for manual gear changing.
If, while the vehicle is moving, positionNis engaged inadvertently,
let the engine idle before engaging position Dor M.

Operation in auto- active auto-
matic mode
Selector onD.
The gearbox always selects the
gear best adapted to the following
parameters:
- style of driving,
- route profile,
- vehicle load.
In this way the gearbox operates in
auto- active mode, without the need
for your intervention. Operation in sequential mode
Manual changing of the four gears:
- Selector on
M,
- push the selector towards the “+” sign to engage a higher gear,
- pull the selector towards the “–” to engage a lower gear.
A shift from D(automatic mode)
to M (sequential mode) is possible
at any time.
Note: The gear engaged is displayed on the instrument panel.
Note: The change from one gear to another is effected only if vehicl e speed
and engine speed permit it.
The Sport programme does not apply in sequential operation.
- Flashing of the warning lamp for the position requested sig nals that this
position has not yet been permitted.
- When the warning lamp is fixed, the position is confirmed.

Operation in Sport automatic mode
Select the driving mode: -Normal , for driving in normal conditions, the display should not be
showing.
- Sport , this position permits a more dynamic driving style favouri ng perform-
ance and acceleration.
• With the lever on D, press on the button, the warning lamp
lights up, you are in “SPORT”mode.
• Press again on the button, the warning lamp goes out, you are in
“NORMAL” mode.
Automatic gearbox malfunction:
- the message “AUTOMATIC GEARBOX FAULT” displays on the instrument panel,
- the gearbox is locked in a gear,
- The driver should not exceed approx. 60 mph.
Consult a CITROËN dealer as soon as possible.

Handbrake
The parking brake is applied, with the vehicle stationary, by pulling on the le-
ver with a force that is proportionate to the steepness of the slope.
In all circumstances, as a precautionary measure, engage fi rst gear. For vehi-
cles equipped with an automatic gearbox, ensure that the par king position
( P ) is selected.
On steep slopes, turn the steering towards the kerb.
To release the brake, pull the lever lightly up, press the but ton on the end of
the lever and return the lever to the fully down position.
The warning lamp will come on if the handbrake is on or not full y released.
An alert message appears on the instrument panel when the veh icle is mov-
ing.
ABS - Anti-lock Braking System
This system improves vehicle safety by preventing the wheel s from locking under emergency braking or when
braking on surfaces offering poor adhesion. It thus allows c ontrol of the steering to be retained.
The operational capacity of the various electrical compone nts of the ABS is continuously monitored, both be-
fore and during your journey. On switching on the ignition, t he ABS warning lamp will light up and then should go out af-
ter a few seconds.
If the warning lamp stays on, this means that the ABS has been d isconnected because a fault was detected. If the warn-
ing lamp lights up when you are driving, this means that the AB S system is not active. In either case, the normal braking
system remains effective, as on a vehicle without ABS. Never theless, to restore the additional safety afforded by cor-
rect functioning of ABS, it is recommended that the vehicle b e taken to a CITROËN dealer as soon as possible.
On slippery roads (loose stones, snow, ice, etc.), it remain s essential to drive with caution.
Emergency braking assistance system
This system enables you to achieve optimum braking pressure more quickly in an emergency situation and thusto
reduce the stopping distance. It deploys as a function of your speed of action on the brake pe dal, reducing its re-
sistance. To maintain the effect of the emergency braking as sistance, just keep your foot on the brake pedal.
The parking brake should not be used for stopping or braking the vehicle while it is moving.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Traction Control(ASR)
These systems are closely connected to the ABS and additiona l to it. In the
event of a loss of control of the vehicle by the driver, the ESP systemacts au-
tomatically on one or more brakes and also on the engine to bri ng the vehicle
back on trajectory. The ASR systemoptimises traction and prevents wheel
spin by acting on the brakes of the driving wheels. It also imp roves steering
stability during acceleration.
Operation
If either the ESP or traction control (ASR) is active, the ESPwarning lamp flash-
es.
Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (vehicle stuck in snow, soft grou nd, etc.) it may prove useful to deactivate the ESP/ASR sys-
tem to allow the wheels to spin and thus regain traction.
- Press control A.
- The ESPwarning lamp lights up, accompanied by the message “ESP/ASR DEACTIVATED” on the multifunction
screen, the ESP/ASR systems are no longer active.
The ESP/ASR systems will deploy again:
- Automatically if the ignition has been switched off.
- Automatically over a speed of 50 km/h (approx. 30 mph).
- With action on your part by a new press on control A.
Operational anomaly
If there is system malfunction, the ESPwarning lamp lights up accompanied by an audible signal and t he message
“ESP/ASR NOT IN USE” on the multifunction screen. Contact a C ITROËN dealer to have the system checked.
SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
The ESP system offers increased driving safety but is not in p lace to encourage the driver to take additional risks or to
drive at excessive speeds.
The functioning of this system is subject to compliance with the manufacturer’s recommendations on wheels (tyres and
rims), brake parts and electronic components, as well as wit h CITROËN’s assembly and repair procedures.
After any collision, have this system checked by a CITROËN de aler.
