2-12Liftgate/Liftgate Glass
CAUTION:It can be dangerous to drive with the liftgate or
liftgate glass open because carbon monoxide
(CO) gas can come into your vehicle. You can't
see or smell CO. It can cause unconsciousness
and even death.
If you must drive with the liftgate or liftgate
glass open or if electrical wiring or other cable
connections must pass through the seal between
the body and the liftgate or liftgate glass:

Make sure all other windows are shut.

Turn the fan on your heating or cooling
system to its highest speed with the setting
on VENT or OUTSIDE AIR. That will
force outside air into your vehicle. See
ªComfort Controlsº in the Index.

If you have air outlets on or under the
instrument panel, open them all the way.
See ªEngine Exhaustº in the Index. To open from the outside, insert the key into the
lock and turn it counterclockwise to unlock the glass
and liftgate.
The liftgate glass can be opened using the pushbutton on
the liftgate after the doors have been unlocked. This can
be done by using either the power door locks or the
remote keyless entry system.
To open the entire liftgate, lift the handle located in the
center of the door.
To lock from the outside, insert the key into the lock
button and turn clockwise. All doors will lock. You may
also use the remote keyless entry system or the power
door locks to lock the liftgate and liftgate glass.

3-2Comfort Controls Electronic Climate Control System
Fan Knob
The knob on the left side of the electronic climate
control panel regulates the fan speed. To manually
increase airflow, turn the knob clockwise. To manually
decrease airflow, turn it counterclockwise.
OFF: If the knob is in OFF, outside air will still enter
the vehicle, and will be directed based on the position of
the mode knob. AUTO (Automatic): If the knob is in AUTO, the
fan speed will vary as the system maintains the
selected temperature.
When both the fan knob and mode knobs are in the
AUTO position, the system will then automatically
maintain the desired cabin temperature selected.
Manual operation is also available.
Temperature Knob
The middle knob on the control panel lets you select the
desired air temperature in your vehicle. Turn the knob
clockwise toward 82 for warmer air. Turn the knob
counterclockwise toward 66 for cooler air. When the
system is set for automatic operation, sensors will
regulate the fan speed.
(Full hot): If you turn the temperature knob past 82
F
(28
C), the system will go into the ªfull hotº mode.
The system will remain at that maximum heating setting
and the fan will blow at the speed to which the fan knob
is set. If the fan is in AUTO, it will run at full speed.
(Full cold): If you turn the temperature knob past 66
F
(19
C), the system will go into the ªfull coldº mode.
The system will remain at that maximum cooling setting
and the fan will blow at the speed to which the fan knob
is set. If the fan is in AUTO, it will run at full speed.

3-6Rear Air Conditioning and Rear Heater
(With Sunroof) Your vehicle has the rear air conditioning and rear
heater system combination. Controls are provided to
regulate the temperature, the air delivery location and
the fan speed.
Front Control To adjust the fan speed, turn the fan knob located on the
left side to the desired setting.
To select the direction of airflow turn the right knob
located on the control panel to the desired setting.
Generally, the upper vents are used for air conditioning
and the floor vents for heating. The knob can be set to
any blend setting.
To adjust the air temperature, turn the temperature knob
on the center of the control panel to the desired setting.
For warmer air, turn the knob clockwise toward red. For
cooler air, turn the knob counterclockwise toward blue.

(Without Sunroof)
Front Control
Rear Control With this system the rear passengers can control the
temperature of the air flow for the rear seating area.
The climate control panels have three knobs.
To adjust the fan speed, turn the fan knob located on
the left side of the control panel to the desired setting.
The system also has a front AUTO setting that can
automatically change the temperature of the rear seating
area based on information received from the front
control panel. The OFF setting, located on the front
climate control panel, also allows the driver to turn off
the rear passenger seat controls from the front seat.
To adjust the air temperature, turn the temperature knob
located on the center of the control panel clockwise
toward 82
F (28
C) for warmer air and
counterclockwise toward 66
F (19
C) for cooler air.
To direct the airflow, turn the right knob located on
the control panel clockwise or counterclockwise to the
desired mode. Generally, the upper vents are used for air
conditioning and the floor vents for heating. The control
knob can be set to any blend setting.
For rear control operation, use the above instructions.

3-11Ventilation Tips

Keep the hood and front air inlet free of ice, snow or
any other obstruction (such as leaves). The heater
and defroster will work far better, reducing the
chance of fogging the inside of your windows.

When you enter a vehicle in cold weather, turn the
fan knob all the way to the right for a few moments
before driving. This helps clear the intake ducts of
snow and moisture, and reduces the chance of
fogging the inside of your windows.

Keep the air path under the front seats clear of
objects. This helps air to circulate throughout
your vehicle.

The use of non
- GM approved hood air deflectors
may adversely affect the performance of the heating
and air conditioning system. Audio Systems Your audio system has been designed to operate easily
and give years of listening pleasure. You will get the
most enjoyment out of it if you acquaint yourself with it
first. Find out what your audio system can do and how
to operate all of its controls to be sure you're getting the
most out of the advanced engineering that went into it.
Your vehicle has a feature called Retained Accessory
Power (RAP). With RAP, you can play your audio
system even after the ignition is turned off. See
ªRetained Accessory Powerº in the Index.
Setting the Clock Press and hold HR until the correct hour appears on the
display. Press and hold MN until the correct minute
appears on the display. To display the clock with the
ignition off, press RECALL or HR/MN and the time
will be displayed for a few seconds. There is an initial
two
- second delay before the clock goes into the
time
- set mode.

3-12AM-FM Stereo with Cassette
Tape Player (Bose

)
Included with this audio system are ten Bose

speakers,
an Acoustimass

bass module and a seven channel Bose
amplifier. See your dealer for details.
Playing the Radio
PWR (Power): Press this knob to turn the system on
and off.
VOL (Volume): Turn this knob clockwise to increase
volume. Turn it counterclockwise to decrease volume.
The knob is capable of being turned continuously. REAR DSPL (Display): When the main radio is turned
on, press this button to see the rear seat audio settings
displayed on the main radio. Press it again to turn the
rear seat audio display off. See ªRear Seat Audioº in the
Index for more information.
RECALL: Press this button to display the station being
played or to display the clock. Clock display is available
with the ignition turned off.
SCV (Speed
- Compensated Volume): With SCV, your
audio system adjusts automatically to make up for road
and wind noise as you drive. Set the volume at the
desired level. Turn the control ring behind the upper
knob clockwise to adjust the SCV. Each notch on the
control ring allows for more volume compensation at
faster vehicle speeds. Then, as you drive, SCV
automatically increases the volume, as necessary, to
overcome noise at any speed. The volume level should
always sound the same to you as you drive. If you don't
want to use SCV, turn the control ring counterclockwise.

3-14 Setting the Tone (Bass/Treble)
BASS: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn the
knob clockwise to increase bass and counterclockwise to
decrease bass.
TREB (Treble): Press this knob lightly so it extends.
Turn the knob clockwise to increase treble and
counterclockwise to decrease treble. If a station is weak
or noisy, you may want to decrease the treble.
Push these knobs back into their stored positions when
you're not using them.
Adjusting the Speakers (Balance/Fade)
BAL (Balance): Press this knob lightly so it extends.
Turn the knob clockwise to adjust sound to the right
speakers and counterclockwise to adjust sound to the
left speakers. The middle position balances the sound
between the speakers.
FADE: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn the
knob clockwise to adjust the sound to the front speakers
and counterclockwise for the rear speakers. The middle
position balances the sound between the speakers.
Push these knobs back into their stored positions when
you're not using them. Playing a Cassette Tape
Your tape player is built to work best with tapes that are
up to 30 to 45 minutes long on each side. Tapes longer
than that are so thin they may not work well in
this player.
To load a cassette tape with the ignition off, press
EJECT or RECALL. Then, insert the cassette tape.
If the ignition is on but the radio is off, the tape will
begin playing.
Once the tape is playing, use the VOL, BAL, FADE,
BASS and TREB controls just as you do for the radio.
The tape symbol and a direction arrow will be on the
display whenever a tape is being played. Anytime a tape
is inserted, the top side is selected for play first.
The player automatically senses if the cassette tape is
metal or CrO 2
and adjusts for best playback sound.
If an error appears on the display, see ªCassette Tape
Messagesº later in this section.
1 PREV (Previous): Press this pushbutton or the left
SEEK arrow to search for the previous selection. A
minimum three
- second blank gap is required for the
player to stop at the beginning of the selection. The tape
direction arrow will blink while in previous mode.
