4. Connect the jumper cables in theexact sequence shown in the illus
tration. First connect one jumper
cable to the red, positive (+)
jumper terminal of your vehicle(1).
5. Connect the other end of the jumper cable to the red, positive
(+) battery/jumper terminal of the
assisting vehicle (2).
6. Connect the second jumper cable to the black, negative ()
batter y/chassis ground of the
assisting vehicle (3). 7. Connect the other end of the sec
ond jumper cable to the black,
negative () chassis ground of
your vehicle (4).
Do not allow the jumper cables to
contact anything except the cor
rect battery or jumper terminals or
the correct ground. Do not lean
over the battery when making
connections.
8. Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and let it run at approxi
mately 2,000 rpm for a few min
utes. Then start your vehicle.
If your vehicle will not start after a
few attempts, it probably requires
servicing. In this event please seek
qualified assistance. If the cause of
your batter y discharging is not
apparent, we recommend that your
vehicle be checked by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer. Disconnect the jumper cables in the
exact reverse order you connectedthem:
1. Disconnect the jumper cable from
the black, negative () chassis
ground of your vehicle (4).
2. Disconnect the other end of the jumper cable from the black, neg
ative () battery/chassis ground of
the assisting vehicle (3).
3. Disconnect the second jumper cable from the red, positive (+)
batter y/jumper terminal of the
assisting vehicle (2).
4. Disconnect the other end of the jumper cable from the red, positive
(+) jumper terminal of your vehicle(1).

If any electrolyte gets
into your eyes, flush
your eyes with clean
water for at least 15 min
utes and get immediate
medical attention. If
electrolyte gets on your
skin, thoroughly wash
the contacted area. If
you feel a pain or a
burning sensation, get
medical attention imme
diately.
Wear eye protection
when charging or work
ing near a battery.
Always provide ventila
tion when working in an
enclosed space.

An inappropriately dis
posed battery can be
harmful to the environ
ment and human health.
Dispose the battery
according to your local
law(s) or regulation.
The battery contains
lead. Do not dispose of it
after use. Please return
the battery to an author
ized HYUNDAI dealer to
be recycled.
•When lifting a plasticcased bat
tery, excessive pressure on the
case may cause battery acid to
leak, resulting in personal injury.
Lift with a battery carrier or with
your hands on opposite corners.

Battery dangers
Always read the follow
ing instructions careful
ly when handling a bat
tery.
Keep lighted cigarettes
and all other flames or
sparks away from the
battery.
Hydrogen, a highly
combustible gas, is
always present in bat
tery cells and may
explode if ignited.
Keep batteries out of
the reach of children
because batteries con
tain highly corrosive
SULFURIC ACID. Do
not allow battery acid to

❈The actual battery label in the vehicle
may differ from the illustration.
1. MF45LBCI : The HYUNDAI model name of battery
2. 12V : The nominal voltage
3. 45Ah(20HR) : The nominal capac ity (in Ampere hours)
4. 80RC : The nominal reser ve capacity (in min.)
5. 410CCA : The coldtest current in amperes by SAE

Battery recharging
Your vehicle has a maintenancefree,
calciumbased battery.
• If the battery becomes dischargedin a short time (because, for exam
ple, the headlights or interior lights
were left on while the vehicle was
not in use), recharge it by slow
charging (trickle) for 10 hours.
• If the battery gradually discharges because of high electric load while
the vehicle is being used, recharge
it at 2030A for two hours.
Battery Replacing
Replacing a Battery is required pre
cautionary measures.
We recommend that you consult an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
NOTICE
•Never attempt to recharge the
battery when the battery cables
are connected.
•The electrical ignition system
works with high voltage. Never
touch these components with
the engine running or the igni
tion switched on.
Failure to follow the above warn
ings can result in serious bodily
injury or death.

ing, and stop or reduce the
charging rate if the battery cells
begin gassing (boiling) violently
or if the temperature of the elec
trolyte of any cell exceeds 49°C
(120°F).
