Introduction
Diesel engine
Diesel fuel
Diesel engine must be operated only
on commercially available diesel fuel
that complies with EN 590 or compa
rable standard. (EN stands for
"European Norm"). Do not use
marine diesel fuel, heating oils, or
nonapproved fuel additives, as this
will increase wear and cause dam
age to the engine and fuel system.
The use of nonapproved fuels and /
or fuel additives will result in a limita
tion of your warranty rights.
Diesel fuel of above cetane 51 is
used in your vehicle. If two types of
diesel fuel are available, use summer
or winter fuel properly according to
the following temperature conditions.
• Above 5°C (23°F) ... Summer typediesel fuel.
• Below 5°C (23°F) ... Winter type diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very
carefully : If the engine stops through
fuel failure, the circuits must be com
pletely purged to permit restarting.Do not let any gasoline or water
enter the tank. This would make it
necessary to drain it out and to bleed
the lines to avoid jamming the injec
tion pump and damaging the engine.
Diesel Fuel
(if equipped with DPF)
It is recommended to use the regu
lated automotive diesel fuel for diesel
vehicle equipped with the DPF sys
tem.
If you use diesel fuel including high
sulfur (more than 50 ppm sulfur) and
unspecified additives, it can cause
the DPF system to be damaged and
white smoke can be emitted.
Biodiesel
Commercially supplied Diesel blends
of no more than 7% biodiesel, com
monly known as "B7 Diesel" may be
used in your vehicle if Biodiesel
meets EN 14214 or equivalent spec
ifications. (EN stands for "European
Norm"). The use of biofuels exceed
ing 7% made from rapeseed methyl
ester (RME), fatty acid methyl ester
(FAME), vegetable oil methyl ester
(VME) etc. or mixing diesel exceed
ing 7% with biodiesel will cause
increased wear or damage to the
engine and fuel system. Repair or
replacement of worn or damaged
components due to the use of non
approved fuels will not be covered by
the manufactures warranty.
•Never use any fuel, whether
diesel, B7 biodiesel or otherwise,
that fails to meet the latest petrole
um industry specification.
•Never use any fuel additives or
treatments that are not recom
mended or approved by the vehi
cle manufacturer.

Engine Coolant Temperature
Gauge
This gauge shows the temperature
of the engine coolant when the igni
tion switch is in the ON position.
If the gauge pointer moves beyond
the normal range area toward the “H
or 130” position, it indicates over
heating that may damage the
engine.
Do not continue driving with an over
heated engine. If your vehicle over
heats, refer to “If the Engine
Overheats” in chapter 6.
NOTICE
Never remove the radiator cap and
reservoir cap when the engine is
hot. The engine coolant is under
pressure and could cause severe
burns. Wait until the engine is cool
before adding coolant to the reser
voir.

than 120 km/h.
This is to prevent you from drivingyour vehicle with overspeed.
The overspeed warning chime also sound for approximately 5 seconds.

(if equipped)
T h i s i n d i c a t o r l i g h t i l l u m i n a t e s :
When the remaining mileage or time
is 0 on the “Service Interval” in the
cluster.
If the service interval setting is reset,
the master warning light turns off.
Glow Indicator Light
(Diesel Engine)
T h i s i n d i c a t o r l i g h t i l l u m i n a t e s :
When the engine is being preheated
with the ignition switch or Engine
Start/Stop button in the ON position.
The engine can be started after theglow indicator light goes off.
The illumination time varies with the engine coolant temperature, air
temperature, and battery condition.
If the indicator light remains on or
blinks after the engine has warmed
up or while driving, there may a mal
function with the engine preheating
system.
In this case, we recommend that you
have the vehicle inspected by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Recirculated air position
With the recirculated air
position selected, air from
the passenger compart
ment will be drawn
through the heating sys
tem and heated or cooled
according to the functionselected.
Outside (fresh) air position
With the outside (fresh)
air position selected, air
enters the vehicle from
outside and is heated or
cooled according to the
function selected.
Information
It should be noted that prolonged
operation of the heater in the recircu
lated air position (without air condi
tioning selected) will cause fogging of
the windshield and side windows and
the air within the passenger compart
ment will become stale.
In addition, prolonged use of the air
conditioning with the recirculated air
position selected will result in exces
sively dry air in the passenger compartment. i
•Continuous operation of the cli
mate control system in the recir
culated air position may allow
humidity to increase inside the
vehicle which may fog the glass
and obscure visibility.
•Do not sleep in a vehicle with air
conditioning or heating system
on. It may cause serious harm
or death due to a drop in the
oxygen level and/or body tem
perature.
•Continuous operation of the cli
mate control system in the recir
culated air position can cause
drowsiness or sleepiness, and
loss of vehicle control. Set the
air intake control to the outside
(fresh) air position as much as
possible while driving.

Operation Tips
• To keep dust or unpleasant fumesfrom entering the car through the
ventilation system, temporarily set
the air intake control to the recircu
lated air position. Return the con
trol to the fresh air position when
the irritation has passed. This will
help keep the driver alert and com
fortable.
• To prevent inside of the windshield from fogging, set the air intake con
trol to the fresh air position and fan
speed to the desired position, turn
on the air conditioning system, and
adjust the temperature control to
desired temperature.Air conditioning (if equipped)
HYUNDAI Air Conditioning Systems
are filled with environmentally friendly
refrigerant.
1. Start the engine.
2. Push the air conditioning button.
3. Set the mode to the Face Level mode.
4. Set the air intake control to the recirculated air position. However,
prolonged operation of the recircu
lated air position will excessively
dry the air. In this case, change the
air position.
5. Adjust the fan speed control and temperature control to maintainmaximum comfort.
When maximum cooling is desired,
set the temperature control to the
extreme left position then set the fan
speed control to the highest speed. When using the air conditioning sys
tem, monitor the temperature gauge
closely while driving up hills or in
heavy traffic when outside tempera
tures are high. Air conditioning sys
tem operation may cause engine
overheating. Continue to use the
blower fan but turn the air condition
ing system off if the engine tempera
ture gauge indicates engine over
heating.

Air conditioning system operation
tips
•If the vehicle has been parked in
direct sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows for a short time
to let the hot air inside the vehicle
escape.
• After sufficient cooling has been achieved, switch back from the
recirculated air to the fresh outside
air position.
• To help reduce moisture inside of the windows on rainy or humid
days, decrease the humidity inside
the vehicle by operating the air
conditioning system with the win
dows closed.
• Use the air conditioning system every month only for a few minutes
to ensure maximum system per
formance. • If you operate air conditioner
excessively, the difference between
the temperature of the outside air
and that of the windshield could
cause the outer surface of the
windshield to fog up, causing loss
of visibility. In this case, set the
mode selection knob or button to
the position and fan speed
control to the lower speed.
System maintenance
Climate control air filter
This filter is installed behind the glove
box. It filters the dust or other pollu
tants that enter the vehicle through the
heating and air conditioning system.
We recommend the climate control air
filter be replaced by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer according to the
maintenance schedule. If the car is
being driven in severe conditions
such as dusty or rough roads, more
frequent air conditioner filter inspec
tions and changes are required.
