two seconds OR Rapidly press
and release the Engine Start/Stop
button three times (within three

If the vehicle is still moving\b you
can restart the engine without

pressing the Engine Start/Stop
button with the shift lever in the N
(Neutral) position.

Starting the engine Information
• The engine will start by pressing theEngine Start/Stop button, only when
the smart key is in the vehicle\b
• Even if the smart key is in the vehi cle, if it is far away from the driver,
the engine may not start\b
• When the Engine Start/Stop button is in the ACC or ON position, if any
door is open, the system checks for
the smart key\b If the smart key is notin the vehicle, the " " indicator
will blink and the warning "Key not
in vehicle" will come on, and if all
doors are closed, the chime will also
sound for about 5 seconds\b The indi
cator will turn off while the vehicle
is moving\b Keep the smart key in the
vehicle when using the ACC position
or if the vehicle engine is ON\b
Starting the petrol engine
Vehicle with Manual Transaxle :
1. Always carry the smart key with you.
2. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3. Make sure the shift lever is in neu tral.
4. Depress the clutch and brake ped als.
5. Press the Engine Start/Stop but ton.
Vehicle with Automatic Transaxle/
Continuously Variable Transaxle :
1. Always carry the smart key with you.
2. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3. Make sure the shift lever is in P (Park).
4. Depress the brake pedal.

•Always wear appropriate shoes
when operating your vehicle.
Unsuitable shoes\b such as high
heels\b ski boots\b sandals\b flip
flops\b etc.\b may interfere with
your ability to use the brake\b
accelerator and clutch pedals.
•Do not start the vehicle with the
accelerator pedal depressed. The
vehicle can move and lead to an
accident.
•Wait until the engine rpm is nor
mal. The vehicle may suddenly

Starting the diesel engine
To start the diesel engine when the
engine is cold\b it has to be preheat
ed before starting the engine and
then have to be warmed up before
starting to drive.
Vehicle with manual transaxle:
1.Always carry the smart key withyou.
2.Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3.Make sure the shift lever is in neu tral.
4.Depress the clutch and brake ped als.
5.Press the Engine Start/Stop but ton.
6.Continue depressing the brake pedal until the glow indicator light
( ) goes out.
7.When the glow indicator light ( ) goes out\b the engine will start. Information

Starting and stopping the engine
for turbocharger intercooler
1.Do not race or accelerate theengine immediately after starting
the engine.
If the engine is cold\b idle for sever
al seconds before sufficient lubri
cation is ensured in the turbo
charger unit.
2.After high speed or extended driv ing that requires heavy engine
load\b idle the engine about one
minute before turning the engine
off. This idle time will allow the tur
bocharger to cool prior to shutting
the engine off.
Do not turn off the engine immedi
ately after it has been subjected to a
heavy load. Doing so may cause
severe damage to the engine or
turbo charger unit. To prevent damage to the vehicle:
• If traffic and road conditions per
mit\b you may put the shift lever in
the N (Neutral) position while the
vehicle is still moving and press
the Engine Start/Stop button in an
attempt to restart the engine.
• Do not push or tow y
our vehicle to
start the engine. To prevent damage to the vehicle:
When the stop lamp fuse is blown\b
you can't start the engine normally.
Replace the fuse with a new one. If
you are not able to replace the fuse\b
you can start the engine by pressing
and holding the Engine Start/Stop
button for 1\f seconds with the
Engine Start/Stop button in the ACC
position.
Do not press the Engine Start/Stop
button for more than 1\f s

econds
except when the stop lamp fuse is
blown.
For your safety always depress the
brake and/or clutch pedal before
starting the engine.

Using the clutch (if equipped)
The clutch pedal should be
depressed all the way to the floor
before:
Starting the engine The engine will not start without
depressing the clutch pedal.
Shifting
When releasing the clutch pedal\b
release it slowly. The clutch pedal
should always be released while
driving. To prevent unnecessary wear or
damage to the clutch:
• Do not rest your foot on the clutch
pedal while driving.
• Do not hold the vehicle with the clutch on an incline\b while waiting
for the traffic light\b etc.
• Always depress the clutch pedal down fully to prevent noise or dam
age.
• Do not start with the 2nd (second) gear engaged except when you
start on a slippery road.
Downshifting
Downshift when you must slow down
in heavy traffic or drive up a steep hill
to prevent engine load.
Also\b downshifting reduces the
chance of stalling and can accelerate
when you need to increase your
speed again.
When the vehicle is going downhill\b
downshifting helps maintain safe
speed by providing brake power from
the engine and enables less wear on
the brakes.
