Seat belt precautions
•Pretensioners are designed to
operate only one time. After acti
vation, pretensioner seat belts
must be replaced. All seat belts,
of any type, should always be
replaced after they have been
worn during a collision.
•The pretensioner seat belt
assembly mechanisms become
hot during activation. Do not touch
the pretensioner seat belt
assemblies for several minutes
after they have been activated.
•Do not attempt to inspect or
replace the pretensioner seat
belts yourself. We recommend
that the system be inspected by
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
•Do not strike the pretensioner
seat belt assemblies.
(Continued)
(Continued)
WARNING
All occupants of the vehicle must
wear their seat belts at all times.
Seat belts and child restraints
reduce the risk of serious or fatal
injuries for all occupants in the
event of a collision or sudden
stop. Without a seat belt, occu
pants could be shifted too close to
a deploying air bag, strike the inte
rior structure or be thrown from the
vehicle. Properly worn seat belts
greatly reduce these hazards.
Always follow the preca

utions
about seat belts, air bags and
occupant seating contained in this
manual.
WARNING
•Improper handling of the pre
tensioner seat belt assemblies,
and failure to heed the warnings
not to strike, modify, inspect,
replace, service or repair the
pretensioner seat belt assem
blies may lead to improper oper
ation or inadvertent activation
and serious injury.
•Always wear the seat belts
when driving or riding in a motor
vehicle.
•If the vehicle or pretensioner
seat belt must be discarded, we
recommend that yo
u contact an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
•Body work on the front area of
the vehicle may damage the pre
tensioner seat belt system.
Therefore, we recommend that
the system be serviced by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Curtain air bag (if equipped)
The actual air bags in the vehicle may differ
from the illustration.
Curtain air bags are located along
both sides of the roof rails above the
front and rear doors.
(Continued)
•To prevent unexpected deploy
ment of the side impact air bag
that may result in personal injury,
avoid impact to the side impact
sensor when the ignition switch
is on.
•If the seat or seat cover is dam
aged, we recommend that the
system be serviced by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Inform the dealer that your vehi
cle is equipped with side impact
air bags.
(Continued)
•Do not use any accessory seat
covers.
•Use of seat covers could reduce
or prevent the effectiveness of
the system.
•Do not install any accessories
on the side or near the side
impact air bag.
•Do not place any objects over
the air bag or between the air
bag and yourself. Also, do not
attach any objects around the
area the air bag inflates such as
the door, side door glass, front
and rear pillar.
•Do not place any objects
between the door and the seat.
They may become dangerous
projectiles if the side air bag
inflates.
•Do not put any objects between
the side air bag label and seat
cushion. It could cause harm if
the vehicle is in a crash severe
enough to cause the air bags to
deploy.

They are designed to help protect
the heads of the front seat occupants
and the rear outboard seat occu
pants in certain side impact colli
sions.
The curtain air bags are designed to
deploy only during cer tain side
impact collisions, depending on the
crash severity, angle, speed and
impact. The curtain air bags are not
designed to deploy in all side impact
situations, collisions from the front or
rear of the vehicle or in most rollover
situations.
•In order for side impact and cur
tain air bags to provide the best
protection, both front seat occu
pants and both outboard rear
occupants should sit in an upright
position with the seat belts prop
erly fastened.
Importantly, children should sit in
a proper child restraint system in
the rear seat.
(Continued)
WARNING
(Continued)
•When children are seated in the
rear outboard seats, they must
be seated in the proper child
restraint system. Make sure to
put the child restraint system as
far away from the door side as
possible, and secure the child
restraint system in a locked posi
tion.
•Do not place any objects over the
air bag. Also, do not attach any
objects around the area the air
bag inflates such as the door,
side door glass, front and rear pil

•Do not hang other objects except
clothes, especially hard or break
able objects. In an accident, it
may cause vehicle damage or
personal injury.
(Continued)
(Continued)
•Do not allow the passengers to
lean their heads or bodies onto
doors, put their arms on the
doors, stretch their arms out of
the window, or place objects
between the doors and passen
gers when they are seated on
seats equipped with side and\for
curtain air bags.
•Do not open or repair the side
curtain air bags.
•Never try to open or repair any
components of the side curtain
air bag system. We recommend
that the syst

em be serviced by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Failure to follow the above men
tioned instructions can result in
injury or death to the vehicle occu
pants in an accident.

"&t%'s%st&'!"'%!'&&

Air bag inflation conditions
Front air bags
Front air bags are designed to inflate
in certain frontal collision depending
on the crash severity, speed or
angles of impact of the front collision.
•Do not hit or allow any objects to
impact the locations where air
bags or sensors are installed.
This may cause unexpected air
bag deployment, which could
result in serious personal injury
or death.
•If the installation location or
angle of the sensors is altered in
any way, the air bags may
deploy when they should not or
they may not deploy when they
should, causing severe injury or
death.
Therefore, do not try to perform
mai

ntenance on or around the
air bag sensors. We recommend
that the system be serviced by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
(Continued)
WARNING (Continued)
•Problems may arise if the sen
sor installation angles are
changed due to the deformation
of the front bumper, body or B
pillar where side collision sen
sors are installed. We recom
mend that the system be serv
iced by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
•Your vehicle has been designed
to absorb impact and deploy the
air bag(s) in certain collisions.
Installing aftermarket bumper
guards or replacing a bumper
with nongenuine parts may
adverse

ly affect your vehicles
collision and air bag deployment
performance.
