changed at the intervals specified in
the maintenance schedule. If the car
is being driven in severe conditions,
more frequent oil and filter changes
are required.Drive beltsInspect all drive belts for evidence of
cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil
saturation and replace if necessary.
Drive belts should be checked peri-
odically for proper tension and
adjusted as necessary.When you are inspecting the belt,
place the ignition switch in the
LOCK/OFF or ACC position.
Fuel filterA clogged filter can limit the speed at
which the vehicle may be driven,
damage the emission system and
cause multiple issues such as hard
starting. If an excessive amount of
foreign matter accumulates in the
fuel tank, the filter may require
replacement more frequently.
After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and
check for leaks at the connections.
We recommend that the fuel filter be
replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
Fuel lines, fuel hoses and con-
nectionsCheck the fuel lines, fuel hoses and
connections for leakage and dam-

Never work on injection system
with engine running or within 30
seconds after shutting off engine.
High pressure pump, rail, injectors
and high pressure pipes are sub-
ject to high pressure even a fter
the engine stopped. The fuel jet
produced by fuel leaks may cause
serious injury, if it touch the b ody.
People using pacemakers should
not move than 30cm closer to the
ECU or wiring harness within the
eng ine room while engine is run-
ning, since the high currents in the
Common Rail system produce
considerab le magnetic fields.

VVapor hose and fuel filler capThe vapor hose and fuel filler cap
should be inspected at those inter-
vals specified in the maintenance
schedule. Make sure that a new
vapor hose or fuel filler cap is cor-
rectly replaced.
Vacuum crankcase ventilation
hoses (if equipped)Inspect the surface of hoses for evi-
dence of heat and/or mechanical
damage. Hard and brittle rubber,
cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and
excessive swelling indicate deterio-
ration. Particular attention should be
paid to examine those hose surfaces
nearest to high heat sources, such
as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to assure
that the hoses do not come in con-
tact with any heat source, sharp
edges or moving component which
might cause heat damage or
mechanical wear. Inspect all hose
connections, such as clamps and
couplings, to make sure they are
secure, and that no leaks are pres-
ent. Hoses should be replaced
immediately if there is any evidence
of deterioration or damage.
Air cleaner filterWe recommend that the air cleaner
filter be replaced by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.Spark plugsMake sure to install new spark plugs
of the correct heat range.Do not disconnect and inspect
spark plugs when the engine is
hot. You may burn yourself.

 $#!Checking the washer fluid level Check the fluid level in the washer
fluid reservoir and add fluid if neces-
sary. Plain water may be used if
washer fluid is not available.
However, use washer solvent with
antifreeze characteristics in cold cli-
mates to prevent freezing.
Checking the parking brakeCheck the stroke of the parking
brake by counting the number of
“clicks’’ heard while fully applying it
from the released position. Also, the
parking brake alone should securely
hold the vehicle on a fairly steep
grade. If the stroke is more or less
than specified, we recommend that
the system be inspected by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.Stroke : 6~8 “clicks’’ at a force of 20
kg (44 lbs, 196 N).

Coolant•
Do not use radiator coolant or
antifreeze in the washer fluid
reservoir.

Radiator coolant can severely
obscure visibility when sprayed
on the windshield and may
cause loss of ve hicle control or
damage to the paint and body
trim.

Windshield washer fluid agents
contain some amounts of alco-
hol and can be flammable under
certain circ umstances. Do not
allow sparks or flame come in
contact with the washer fluid or
the washer fluid reser voir.
Damage to the vehicle or occu- pants could occur.

Windshield washer fluid is poi-
sonous to humans and animals. Do not drink and avoid coming
in contact with the windshield
washer fluid. Serious injury or
death could occur.

 $For best battery service• Keep the battery securely mount-
ed.
• Keep the battery top clean and dry.
• Keep the terminals and connec- tions clean, tight, and coated with
petroleum jelly or terminal grease.
• Rinse any spilled electrolyte from the battery immediately with asolution of water and baking soda.
• If the vehicle is not going to be used for an extended time, discon-
nect the battery cables.
Information - For batteries
marked with UPPER and LOWER
If your vehicle is equipped with a bat-
tery marked with LOWER (MIN) and
UPPER (MAX) on the side, you
should check the electrolyte level.
The electrolyte level should be
between LOWER (MIN) and UPPER
(MAX). When the electrolyte level is
low, add distilled (or de-mineralized)
water. (Never add sulfuric acids or
other electrolyte).

Be careful not to spill distilled (or de-
mineralized) water over the battery
surface or other adjacent components.
Also, do not overfill the battery cells.
If not, it may corrode the battery or
other components. Finally, securely
close the cell cap. However, we recom-
mend you to contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer for better battery
service.i

IInformation
If the memory fuse is pulled up from
the fuse panel, the warning chime,
audio, clock and interior lamps, etc.,
will not operate. Some items must
be reset after replacement. Refer to
"Battery" in this chapter.
Even though the memory fuse is pulled up, the battery can still be
discharged by operation of the
headlights or other electrical
devices.
Engine compartment panel fuse
replacement1. Turn the ignition switch and all
other switches off.
2. Remove the fuse box cover by pressing the tab and pulling up the
cover.
3. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert
the fuse, use the fuse puller in the
engine compartment fuse panel.
4. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly
in the clips. If it fits loosely, we rec-
ommend that you consult an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
After checking the fuse panel in the
engine compartment, securely install
the fuse panel cover. If not, electrical
failures may occur from water leak-
