DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove bearing race from high and low reverse clutch drum.
2. Remove snap ring from high and low reverse clutch drum using suitable tool.
3. Remove drive plates, driven plates and retaining plate from high and low reverse clutch drum.
INSPECTION
•Check the following, and replace high an d low reverse clutch assembly if necessary.
High and Low Reverse Clutch Snap Ring
• Check for deformation, fatigue or damage.
High and Low Reverse Clutch Drive Plates
• Check facing for burns, cracks or damage.
High and Low Reverse Clutch Retaining Plate and Driven Plates
• Check facing for burns, cracks or damage.

CAUTION:
Take care with the order of plates.
2. Install snap ring in high and low reverse clutch drum using suit- able tool.
3. Install bearing race to high and low reverse clutch drum. CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to bearing race.

1. Remove snap rings from direct clutch drum using suitable tool.
2. Remove drive plates, driven plates and retaining plate from direct clutch drum.
INSPECTION
•Check the following, and replace di rect clutch assembly if necessary.
Direct Clutch Snap Rings
• Check for deformation, fatigue or damage.
Direct Clutch Drive Plates
• Check facing for burns, cracks or damage.

35. Install direct clutch assembly in reverse brake.CAUTION:
Make sure that drum support edge surface and direct clutch
inner boss edge surface come to almost same place.
36. Install needle bearing in drum support. CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
37. Install high and low reverse clutch assembly in direct clutch.
38. Align the drive plate using suitable tool.
39. Install high and low reverse clutch hub, mid sun gear assembly and rear sun gear assembly as a unit.

CAUTION:
Make sure that portion “A” of high and low reverse clutch
drum protrudes approximately 2 mm (0.08 in) beyond por-
tion “B” of rear sun gear.
40. Install needle bearing in rear carrier assembly. CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
41. Install bearing race in rear carrier assembly. CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to bearing race.
42. Install rear carrier assembly in direct clutch drum.

43. Install needle bearing (rear side) to mid carrier assembly.CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
44. Install needle bearing (front side) to mid carrier assembly. CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
45. Install mid carrier assembly in rear carrier assembly.
46. Install front carrier assembly, input clutch assembly and rear internal gear as a unit.
47. Install seal rings in input clutch assembly. CAUTION:
• Do not reuse seal rings.
• Apply petroleum jelly to seal rings.

48. Install band servo anchor end pin and lock nut in transmission case.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse band servo anchor end pin.
49. Install brake band in transmission case. CAUTION:
Install it so that the identificat ion to avoid incorrect installa-
tion faces the servo side.
50. Install front sun gear to front carrier assembly. CAUTION:
Apply ATF to front sun gear bearing and 3rd one-way clutch
end bearing.
51. Install needle bearing to front sun gear. CAUTION:
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
52. Adjust brake band tilting using a clip so that brake band contacts front sun gear drum evenly.

3. Install oil pump assembly in transmission case. CAUTION:
Apply ATF to oil pump bearing.
4. Apply recommended sealant (Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-15, "
Recommended Chemical Products
and Sealants".) to oil pump assembly as shown.
CAUTION:
Completely remove all moistu re, oil, old sealant and any
foreign material from the oil pump bolts and oil pump bolt
mating surfaces.
5. Tighten oil pump bolts to specified torque. CAUTION:
Apply ATF to oil pump bushing.
6. Install O-ring to input clutch assembly. CAUTION:
• Do not reuse O-ring.
• Apply ATF to O-ring.
7. Install converter housing to transmission case and tighten bolts to specified torque.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse self-sealing bolt (A).

AUTO ACTIVE TEST
Description
In auto active test mode, the IPDM E/R sends a drive signal to the following systems to check their operation.
• Oil pressure low/coolant pressure high warning indicator
• Oil pressure gauge
• Rear window defogger
• Front wipers
• Tail, license and parking lamps
• Front fog lamps
• Headlamps (Hi, Lo)
• A/C compressor (magnetic clutch)
• Cooling fan
Operation Procedure
1. Close the hood and front door RH, and lift the wiper arms from the windshield (to prevent windshield dam-
age due to wiper operation).
NOTE:
When auto active test is performed with hood opened, sprinkle water on windshield before hand.
2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON and, within 20 seconds, press the front door switch LH 10 times. Then turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Turn the ignition switch ON within 10 seconds. Af ter that the horn sounds once and the auto active test
starts.
5. After a series of the following operations is repeated 3 times, auto active test is completed.
NOTE:
When auto active test mode has to be cancelled halfway through test, turn ignition switch OFF.
CAUTION:
• If auto active test mode cannot be actua ted, check door switch system. Refer to DLK-67, "
Descrip-
tion".
• Do not start the engine.
Inspection in Auto Active Test Mode
When auto active test mode is actuated, the following 7 steps are repeated 3 times.
