Odometer Tripmeter/Trip computer
(if equipped)
The trip computer is a microcomputer-
controlled driver information system that
displays information related to driving,
such as odometer, tripmeter, distance to
empty, average speed, driving time, aver-age fuel consumption and instant fuel
consumption on the display when the
ignition switch is in the ON position. All
stored driving information (except
odometer, distance to empty and instantfuel consumption) is reseted if the bat-
tery is disconnected. The odometer is always displayed until
the display is turned off.
Press the TRIP button for less than 1
second to select tripmeter, distance to
empty, average speed, driving time, aver-age fuel consumption or instant fuel con-
sumption function as follows:
* : if equipped
Odometer (km or mi.) The odometer indicates the total dis-
tance the vehicle has been driven.
You will also find the odometer useful to
determine when periodic maintenance
should be performed.

Elapsed time (if equipped)
This mode indicates the total time trav-
eled since the last driving time reset.
Even if the vehicle is not in motion, the
driving time keeps going while the engine
is running.
The meter’s working range is from 0:00~99:59.
Pressing the RESET button for more
than 1 second when the driving time is
being displayed, or after the engine stops
and 2 hours elapsed, clears the driving
time to zero (0:00). Average fuel consumption (if equipped)(
l/100 km or MPG)
This mode calculates the average fuelconsumption from the total fuel used and
the distance since the last average con-
sumption reset. The total fuel used is cal-culated from the fuel consumption input.
For an accurate calculation, drive morethan 50 m (0.03 miles).
Pressing the RESET button for more than
1 second, when the average fuel con-
sumption is being displayed, clears the
average fuel consumption to zero (--.-).
If the vehicle speed exceeds 1 km/h after
being refueled, the average fuel con-
sumption will be cleared to zero (--.-). Instant fuel consumption (if equipped)(
l/100 km or MPG)
This mode calculates the instant fuel
consumption every 2 seconds (Type B :
every 0.2 second) from the driving dis-tance and quantity of fuel injection.

 If the vehicle is not on level ground or the battery power has been interrupt-
ed, the “Distance to empty” function
may not operate correctly.
The trip computer may not register
additional fuel if less than 6 liters (1.6
gallons) of fuel are added to the vehicle.
 The fuel consumption and distance to empty values may vary significantly
based on driving conditions, driving
habits, and condition of the vehicle.
 The distance to empty value is an esti- mate of the available driving distance.
This value may differ from the actual

Warnings and indicators
All warning lights are checked by turning
the ignition switch ON (do not start the
engine). Any light that does not illuminate
should be checked by an authorized Kia
dealer.
After starting the engine, check to make
sure that all warning lights are off. If any
warning lights are still on, this indicates a
situation that needs attention. When
releasing the parking brake, the brake
system warning light should go off. The
fuel warning light will stay on if the fuel

Air bag warning light
This warning light will illuminate for
approximately 6 seconds each time you
turn the ignition switch to the ON posi-tion. This light also comes on when the
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is
not working properly. If the AIR BAG
warning light does not come on, or con-
tinuously remains on after operating for
about 6 seconds when you turned the
ignition switch to the ON position or start-
ed the engine, or if it comes on while
driving, have the SRS inspected by an
authorized Kia dealer.

ESP (Electronic StabilityProgram) indicator
(if equipped)
The ESP indicator will illuminate when
the ignition switch is turned ON, but
should go off after approximately 3 sec-
onds. When the ESP is on, it monitors the
driving conditions and under normal driv-
ing conditions, the ESP indicator will
remain off. When a slippery or low trac-tion condition is encountered, the ESP
will operate, and the ESP indicator will
blink to indicate the ESP is operating. But, if the ESP system malfunctions the
indicator illuminates and stays on.
Take your vehicle to an authorized Kia

The ESP OFF indicator will illuminate
when the ignition switch is turned ON,
but should go off after approximately 3
seconds. To switch to ESP OFF mode,
press the ESP OFF button. The ESPOFF indicator will illuminate indicating
the ESP is deactivated.

CAUTION - Gasoline engine
If the Emission Control System Malfunction Indicator Light illumi-
nates, potential catalytic converterdamage is possible which couldresult in loss of engine power. Have the Engine Control System inspect-
ed as soon as possible by anauthorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION - Diesel engine
If the Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light blinks, some error related to the injectionquantity adjustment occurs which
could result in loss of enginepower, combustion noise and pooremission. Have the Engine ControlSystem inspected as soon as pos-
sible by an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION - Diesel engine
(if equipped with DPF)
When the malfunction indicator light is blinks, it may stop blinking
after driving the vehicle at morethan 60 km/h (37 mph) or at morethan second gear with 1500 ~ 2000 engine rpm for a certain time (for
about 25 minutes).
If the malfunction indicator lightcontinues to be blinked in spite ofthe procedure, please visit an
authorized Kia dealer and thencheck the DPF system.
If you continue to drive with themalfunction indicator light blinking for a long time, the DPF system can
be damaged and fuel consumptioncan be worsen.

Your vehicle's fuel economy depends
mainly on your style of driving, where you
drive and when you drive.
Each of these factors affects how many
kilometers (miles) you can get from a liter
(gallon) of fuel. To operate your vehicle
as economically as possible, use the fol-
lowing driving suggestions to help save
money in both fuel and repairs:
Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a moder-
ate rate. Don't make "jack-rabbit" starts or full-throttle shifts and maintain a
steady cruising speed. Don't race
between stoplights. Try to adjust your
speed to the traffic so you don't have to
change speeds unnecessarily. Avoid
heavy traffic whenever possible.
Always maintain a safe distance from
other vehicles so you can avoid unnec-
essary braking. This also reduces
brake wear.
Drive at a moderate speed. The faster you drive, the more fuel your vehicle
uses. Driving at a moderate speed,
especially on the highway, is one of the
most effective ways to reduce fuel con-sumption. Don't "ride" the brake pedal. This can
increase fuel consumption and also
increase wear on these components.
In addition, driving with your foot rest-
ing on the brake pedal may cause the
brakes to overheat, which reduces
their effectiveness and may lead to
more serious consequences.
Take care of your tires. Keep them inflated to the recommended pressure.
Incorrect inflation, either too much or
too little, results in unnecessary tire
wear. Check the tire pressures at leastonce a month.
Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly. Improper alignment can
result from hitting curbs or driving too
fast over irregular surfaces. Poor align-
ment causes faster tire wear and may
also result in other problems as well as
greater fuel consumption. Keep your vehicle in good condition.
For better fuel economy and reduced
maintenance costs, maintain your vehi-cle in accordance with the mainte-
nance schedule in section 7. If you
drive your vehicle in severe conditions,more frequent maintenance is required
(see section 7 for details).
Keep your vehicle clean. For maximum service, your vehicle should be kept
clean and free of corrosive materials. It
is especially important that mud, dirt,
ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate
on the underside of the vehicle. This
extra weight can result in increased
fuel consumption and also contributeto corrosion.
Travel lightly. Don't carry unnecessary weight in your vehicle. Weight reduces
fuel economy.
Don't let the engine idle longer than necessary. If you are waiting (and not
in traffic), turn off your engine and
restart only when you're ready to go.

Maintenance
Diesel Particulate Filter (if equipped)
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) sys-
tem removes the soot emitted from the
vehicle.
Unlike a disposable air filter, the DPF
system automatically burns (oxidizes)
and removes the accumulated soot
according to the driving condition. In
other words, the active burning by engine
control system and high exhaust gas
temperature caused by normal/high driv-
ing condition burns and removes the
accumulated soot.
However, if the vehicle continues to be
driven at low speed for long time, the
accumulated soot may not be automati-
cally removed because of low exhaust
gas temperature. In this particular case,the amount of soot is out of detection
limit, the soot oxidation process by
engine control system may not happen
and the malfunction indicator light may
blink. When the malfunction indicator light
blinks, it may stop blinking by driving the
vehicle at more than 60 km/h (37 mph) orat more than second gear with 1500 ~
2000 engine rpm for a certain time (for
about 25 minutes).If the malfunction indicator light contin-
ues to be blinked in spite of the proce-
dure, please visit an authorized Kia deal-
er and then check the DPF system.
If you continue to drive with the malfunc-
tion indicator light blinking for a long time,the DPF system can be damaged and
fuel consumption can be worsen.
CAUTION -
Diesel Fuel
(if equipped with DPF)
It is recommended to use the regu- lated automotive diesel fuel fordiesel vehicle equipped with the
DPF system.
If you use diesel fuel including highsulfur (more than 50 ppm sulfur)and unspecified additives, it can cause the DPF system to be dam-
aged and white smoke can be emit-ted.
