Side and curtain air bags
0+'
❈The actual air bags in the vehicle
may differ from the illustration. Side and curtain air bags are designed
to inflate when an impact is detected by the side collision sensors depending
on the strength, speed or angles of im‐
pact resulting from a side impact colli‐ sion.
Although the front air bags (driver’s
and front passenger’s air bags) are de‐
signed to inflate only in frontal colli‐ sions, they also may inflate in other
types of collisions if the front impact
sensors detect a sufficient impact. Side air bags (side and/or curtain air bags)
are designed to inflate only in side im‐
pact collisions, but they may inflate in other collisions if the side impact sen‐
sors detect a sufficient impact.
If the vehicle chassis is impacted by
bumps or objects on unimproved roads or sidewalks, the air bags may deploy.
Drive carefully on unimproved roads or
on surfaces not designed for vehicle traffic to prevent unintended air bag
deployment.

The side and curtain air bags are de‐
signed to inflate when a rollover is
detected by a rollover sensor.
Air bag non-inflation conditions
0+'
• In certain low-speed collisions the air bags may not deploy. The air bags
are designed not to deploy in such cases because they may not provide
benefits beyond the protection of the
seat belts in such collisions.

0+'
• Air bags are not designed to inflate inrear collisions, because occupants are
moved backward by the force of the impact. In this case, inflated air bags
would not be able to provide any ad‐
ditional benefit.• Front air bags may not inflate in side impact collisions, because occupants
move to the direction of the collision, and thus in side impacts, front air
bag deployment would not provide
additional occupant protection.
However, if equipped with side and
curtain air bags, the air bags may in‐
flate depending on the intensity, ve‐ hicle speed and angles of impact.
0+'
• In an angled collision, the force of im‐ pact may direct the occupants in a di‐
rection where the air bags would not be able to provide any additional ben‐
efit, and thus the sensors may not
deploy any air bags.

NOTICE
nwithout rollover sensor
However, side and/or curtain air
bags may inflate when the vehicle is
rolled over by a side impact collision,
if the vehicle is equipped with side
air bags and curtain air bags.
SRS Care
The SRS is virtually maintenance-free
and so there are no parts you can safe‐
ly service by yourself. If the SRS air bag
warning light does not illuminate, or
continuously remains on, we recom‐ mend that the system be inspected by
an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
•Modification to SRS components orwiring, including the addition ofany kind of badges to the pad cov‐ers or modifications to the bodystructure, can adversely affectSRS performance and lead to pos‐sible injury.
•For cleaning the air bag pad cov‐ers, use only a soft, dry cloth orone which has been moistenedwith plain water. Solvents or clean‐ers could adversely affect the airbag covers and proper deploymentof the system.
•No objects should be placed overor near the air bag modules on thesteering wheel, instrument panel, and the front passenger's panelabove the glove box, because anysuch object could cause harm ifthe vehicle is in a crash severeenough to cause the air bags to in‐flate.
•If the air bags inflate, we recom‐mend that the system be replacedby an authorized Kia dealer.
(Continued)
(Continued)
•Do not tamper with or disconnectSRS wiring, or other componentsof the SRS system. Doing so couldresult in injury, due to accidentalinflation of the air bags or by ren‐dering the SRS inoperative.
•If components of the air bag sys‐tem must be discarded, or if thevehicle must be scrapped, certainsafety precautions must be ob‐served. An authorized Kia dealerknows these precautions and cangive you the necessary informa‐tion. Failure to follow these pre‐cautions and procedures could in‐crease the risk of personal injury.
•If your car was flooded and hassoaked carpeting or water on theflooring, you shouldn't try to startthe engine; we recommend thatyou contact an authorized Kiadealer.
Additional safety precautions
•Never let passengers ride in the cargoarea or on top of a folded down backseat. All occupants should sit upright,
fully back in their seats with their
seat belts on and their feet on the
floor.

MIRRORS
Inside rearview mirror
Adjust the rearview mirror so that thecenter view through the rear window is
seen. Make this adjustment before you
start driving.
WARNING
nRear visibility
Do not place objects in the rear seator cargo area which would interferewith your vision through the rearwindow.
WARNING
Do not adjust the rearview mirrorwhile the vehicle is moving. Thiscould result in loss of control, and anaccident which could cause death, serious injury or property damage.
WARNING
Do not modify the inside mirror anddon’t install a wide mirror. It couldresult in injury, during an accident ordeployment of the air bag.
Electrochromic mirror (ECM)
The electric rearview mirror automati‐
cally controls the glare from the head‐ lights of the vehicles behind you in
nighttime or low light driving condi‐
tions. The sensor mounted in the mir‐ ror senses the light level around the ve‐
hicle, and automatically controls the
headlight glare from the vehicles be‐ hind you.
When the engine is running, the glare is
automatically controlled by the sensor
mounted in the rearview mirror.
Whenever the shift lever is shifted into reverse (R), the mirror will automatical‐
ly go to the brightest setting in order
to improve the driver's view behind the vehicle.
CAUTION
When cleaning the mirror, use a pa‐per towel or similar material damp‐ened with glass cleaner. Do notspray glass cleaner directly on themirror. It may cause the liquid clean‐er to enter the mirror housing.

•Use your interior rearview mirroror direct observation to determinethe actual distance of followingvehicles when changing lanes.
CAUTION
Do not scrape ice off the mirror face;this may damage the surface of theglass. If ice should restrict the move‐ment of the mirror, do not force themirror for adjustment. To removeice, use a deicer spray, or a spongeor soft cloth with warm water.
CAUTION
If the mirror is jammed with ice, donot adjust the mirror by force. Usean approved de-icer spray (not radi‐ator antifreeze) to release the fro‐zen mechanism or move the vehicleto a warm place and allow the ice tomelt.
WARNING
Do not adjust or fold the outsiderearview mirrors while the vehicle ismoving. This could result in loss ofcontrol and an accident which couldcause death, serious injury or prop‐erty damage.

The parking assist system assists the
driver during movement of the vehicle by chiming if any object is sensed with‐
in the distance of 100 cm (39 in.) in
front and 120 cm (47 in.) behind the vehicle.
This system is a supplemental system
and it is not intended to nor does it re‐
place the need for extreme care and attention of the driver.
The sensing range and objects detecta‐
ble by the sensors (
) are limited.
Whenever moving pay as much atten‐
tion to what is in front and behind of you as you would in a vehicle without a
parking assist system.
WARNING
The parking assist system shouldonly be considered as a supplemen‐tary function. The driver must checkthe front and rear view. The opera‐tional function of the parking assistsystem can be affected by manyfactors and conditions of the sur‐roundings, so the responsibility restsalways with the driver.
