1.The seatbelt must be worn cor‐rectly and adjusted to the properposition. Please read and followall of the important informationand precautions about your vehi‐cle’s occupant safety features –including seat belts and air bags– that are provided in this man‐ual.
2.Be sure you and your passen‐gers always wear seat beltsproperly.
NOTICE
•Pre-tensioner seat belts will be
activated in certain frontal colli‐
sions. The pre-tensioner seat
belts can be activated, where the
frontal collision is severe enough,
together with the air bags.
(Continued)
(Continued)
•When the pre-tensioner seat belts
are activated, a loud noise may be
heard and fine dust, which may
appear to be smoke, may be visi‐
ble in the passenger compart‐
ment. These are normal operating
conditions and are not hazardous.
•Although it is harmless, the fine
dust may cause skin irritation and
should not be breathed for pro‐
longed periods. Wash all exposed
skin areas thoroughly after an ac‐
cident in which the pre-tensioner
seat belts were activated.
•Because the sensor that activates
the SRS air bag is connected with
the pre-tensioner seat belt, the
SRS air bag warning light on the
instrument panel will illuminate for
approximately 6 seconds after the
Engine Start/Stop button has been
turned to the "ON" position, and
then it should turn off.
CAUTION
If the pre-tensioner seat belt is notworking properly, the SRS air bagwarning light will illuminate even ifthere is no malfunction of the SRSair bag. If the SRS air bag warninglight does not illuminate when theEngine Start/Stop button is turnedto ON, or if it remains illuminated af‐ter illuminating for approximately 6seconds, or if it illuminates while thevehicle is being driven, we recom‐mend that the system be inspectedby an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
•Pre-tensioners are designed to op‐erate only one time. After activa‐tion, pre-tensioner seat beltsmust be replaced. All seat belts, ofany type, should always be re‐placed after they have been wornduring a collision.

•Keep the SRS parts and wiringsaway from water or any liquid. Ifthe SRS components are inopera‐tive due to exposure to water orliquids, it may cause fire or severeinjury.
How does the air bag system
operate
• Air bags are activated (able to inflateif necessary) only when the engine
start/stop button is turned to the ON or START position.
• Air bags inflate instantly in the event of a serious frontal collision or side
collision (if equipped with a side air
bag or curtain air bag) in order to
help protect the occupants from seri‐ ous physical injury.
• There is no single speed at which the air bags will inflate.
Generally, air bags are designed to in‐
flate based upon the severity of a
collision and its direction. These two
factors determine whether the sen‐ sors produce an electronic deploy‐
ment/inflation signal. • Air bag deployment depends on a
number of factors including vehicle
speed, angles of impact and the den‐ sity and stiffness of the vehicles or
objects which your vehicle hits in the
collision. The determining factors are
not limited to those mentioned
above.
• The front air bags will completely in‐ flate and deflate in an instant.
It is virtually impossible for you to
see the air bags inflate during an ac‐
cident.
It is much more likely that you will
simply see the deflated air bags
hanging out of their storage com‐ partments after the collision.
NOTICE
nIf equipped with rollover sen‐
sor
Air bags inflate instantly in the
event of a rollover (if equipped with
a side air bag or curtain air bag) in
order to help protect the occupants
from serious physical injury.
• In order to help provide protection in a severe collision, the air bags must
inflate rapidly. The speed of the air bag inflation is a consequence of ex‐
tremely short time in which a collision
occurs and the need to inflate the air
bag between the occupant and the
vehicle structures before the occu‐ pant impacts those structures.
This speed of inflation reduces the
risk of serious or life-threatening in‐
juries in a severe collision and is thus
a necessary part of the air bag de‐
sign.
However, air bag inflation can also cause injuries which can include facial
abrasions, bruises and broken bones
because the inflation speed also cau‐
ses the air bags to expand with a great deal of force.

There are even circumstances underwhich contact with the steeringwheel air bag can cause fatal injuries, especially if the occupant is posi‐tioned excessively close to the steer‐ing wheel.

The purpose of the air bag warning
light in your instrument panel is to alert
you of a potential problem with your air bag - Supplemental Restraint Sys‐
tem (SRS).
When the Engine Start/Stop button is
turned ON, the warning light should illu‐ minate for approximately 6 seconds,
then go off.
Have the system checked if: • The light does not turn on briefly when you turn the Engine Start/Stop
button to the ON position.
• The light stays on after illuminating for approximately 6 seconds. • The light comes on while the vehicle
is in motion.
• The light blinks when the engine start/stop button is in the ON posi‐
tion.

the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch is set to the ON position.
CAUTION
If the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch malfunctions, thepassenger’s front air bag OFF indica‐tor will not illuminate (the passeng‐er's front air bag ON indicator comeson and goes off after approximately60 seconds) and the passenger’sfront air bag will inflate in a frontalimpact even if the passenger’s frontair bag ON/OFF switch is set to theOFF position. If this occurs, we recommend thatthe passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch and the SRS air bagsystem be inspected by an author‐ized Kia dealer.
SRS components and functions
The SRS consists of the following com‐
ponents: 1. Driver's front air bag module
2. Passenger's front air bag module
3. Side air bag modules
4. Curtain air bag modules
5. Retractor pre-tensioner assem‐
blies *

Side impact sensors *
10. Passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF indicator (front passenger's seat
only) *
11. Passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch *
12. Side pressure sensors
The SRSCM continually monitors all SRS
components while the Engine Start/
Stop button is ON to determine if a crash impact is severe enough to re‐
quire air bag deployment or pretension‐ er seat belt deployment.
The SRS air bag warning light on the in‐
strument panel will illuminate for about 6 seconds after the Engine Start/Stop
button is set to the ON position, after
which the SRS air bag warning light should go out.
WARNING
If any of the following conditions oc‐curs, this indicates a malfunction ofthe SRS. We recommend that the

The front air bag modules are located
in the center of the steering wheel, in the front passenger's panel above the
glove box and/or in the driver’s side
knee bolster. When the SRSCM detects a sufficiently severe impact to the
front of the vehicle, it will automatically
deploy the front air bags.
%SJWFSLÓTGSPOUBJSCBH

Upon deployment, tear seams molded
directly into the pad covers will sepa‐ rate under pressure from the expan‐
sion of the air bags. Further opening of
the covers then allows full inflation of the air bags.
